Our AJ rewind to celebrate his 80th birthday continues.
The incredible story of a breakfast meet with Bernie Ecclestone which lead to his sudden withdrawal from a race!
Getting the pilot to fire up the plane for a departure with the race barely underway.
Some Supercars reflections plus a sliding doors moment that saved AJ’s life.
And a racing superstition and rental car hijinks at the Nurburgring.
This forthright convo with Australian Motorsport Hall of Famer Alan Jones was recorded in March 2022. It’s rare for AJ to jump behind a podcast mic, so we’re grateful to have had the chance to unpack his time in F1, Touring Cars and more.

The 1980 Formula One World Champion is about to clock up a special birthday so we’re bringing back his Feature Ep to celebrate the milestone.
AJ will be 80 on November the 2nd. We originally spoke with him back in 2022 in the lead up to the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park.
For a time Rusty shared the F1 desk and set at Channel 10 with the great man for the network’s live GP coverage and many of you will fondly remember him alongside the late great Daryl Eastlake at 9 before that.
Alan’s always been a straight shooter. You’re never in any doubt about his view on something and he earned the right to those opinions. Keep in mind as you listen here that if our world has changed a bit, become a bit more PC well that isn’t how AJ lives his life. Keep that era perspective around the stories please.
There’s some great reflections on his Dad Stan, doing it tough in England trying to get a break.
Plus secret meetings with Enzo Ferrari, the legendary Frank Williams and more
Enjoy listening to one of the undisputed hardmen of Formula One and Australia’s last World Champion (currently) in this frank and honest conversation.
Alan is one of the very few to be uplifted to Legend status in the Australian Motorsport Hall of Fame. Find out more here.

Team 18’s Lee Holdsworth and Isle of Mann TT legend Cam Donald join us for this ep.
Cam is part of Channel Ten’s Australian Grand Prix on-air team this weekend as Moto bids farewell to the Island.
First up Lee beams in to debrief a brutal finish to the Bathurst 1000 in incredible detail.
Lethal is measured and showed great leadership as the crew struggled to come to terms with going so close only to lose the Great Race when they cruelly ran out of fuel.
The importance of unity at T18 as they regroup for the Gold Coast and learning from the mistake.
Plus his determination to contest the enduros again next year but not to seek redemption.
Then Cam drops by the studio to reminisce about an incredible GP chapter at Phillip Island - hard to believe it’s coming to an end.
Memories of his first race there and an unlikely highlight from the #AusMotoGP weekend over the years.
The incredible state of play in the premier class right now.
And something of a baton change as Jack Miller prepares for Superbikes in ‘27 and fellow Aussie Senna Agius gets his big break in MotoGP.
It’s quality convo with both guests that is less interview and more Garage banter….just the way you like it!

With thanks to Oscar and the team at McLaren Rusty continues something of a Singapore tradition of catching up on the eve of the event.
Some reflections of last week’s crazy GP in Malaysia and his decision to pit at a critical moment to change tyres. Even with all the data in this game now drivers making a call like that from the cockpit shows their brilliance.
Coping with heat and humidity for back-to-back weekends and how compressed it is for drivers and teams on a Sprint round like this one.
What he thinks McLaren’s chances are like here at Marina Bay and the continued learnings from the complex new gen cars.
Plus switching off when the spotlight in this Box Office sport is permanently on and is he keeping a little eye on the Bathurst 1000?
This is a ripper chat with a Double Coated Tim Tam wager…..it’ll make sense when you listen.

Rusty is joined by Craig ‘Junior’ Lowndes, former HRT team boss Jeff ‘Hog’ Grech & loyal Brock Lieutenant Graeme ‘Mort’ Brown for this special edition.
A group of colleagues and co-workers who became close friends share their stories of the King of the Mountain. Being in awe of him….what those first meetings were like and the impact he had.
The cars….the co-drivers…..the unforgettable races.
Mentoring Lowndes and the learnings CL carries with him to this day as he prepares for his 33rd start chasing win number 8.
How Brock mellowed in the final years before his passing and what he perhaps would have been doing now at age 81. Plus the power of the Brock bond that permeated the teams he led, even on the tough days.
Peter might have left us suddenly after a rally crash in WA in September 2006 but his legacy lives on.
Enjoy some Brock convo with those who knew him best and have a fantastic Bathurst week.

His vivid memories of a frightening crash at Lakeside in a Sierra and how he’s since brought that car back to life.
What it was like working with the late greats - Peter Brock and Allan Moffat.
Recollections of passing an “electrical apprenticeship” during the Bathurst 1000.
The joy of racing with his son George and winning some significant races.
Keeping an eye on future talent like Blake Tracey, Rylan Gray (and more) and helping them on the pathway.
Forging ties with Multimatic and becoming a world leader in sales of Ford GT racing product….man they have a strong presence in this part of the world.
Plus a soft spot for Muscle Car Masters and the importance of being open to change as a Dealer Group (on the road car side) as a wave of new brands grow their market share downunder.
It’s taken a while to make this one happen (that’s on Rusty not Andrew) but as you’ll hear the wait is worth it. Cracking chat!

Growing up in the Apple Isle and being wowed by some absolute heroes of the day at the legendary Longford track.
Borrowing money from his Mum and channeling it into a race car.
Getting into the car business and working in Sydney’s epicenter then on Parramatta Road…the lessons it taught him for the future.
Chasing the open wheeler dream and going to England only to be told he probably didn’t have enough dough and he should turn around and go back to Australia!
Changing tack to win some big races in Asia and keeping an open wheeler on the wall for decades before restoring it (period correct) and hitting the track in it again.
Plus a recent mission for Ford to run a GT3 car in Japan with some gun international drivers and why he believes in “saying yes to opportunity and working it out later”.
We recorded this one in the Listnr studios after the GT Festival Sydney but we may as well have sat in the transporter because it feels like one of those cool, end of race day, convos. Enjoy.

We’re at Sydney Motorsport Park for this one to chat with the founder of SRO Motorsport Group Stephane Ratel.
The story of how it all started & the incredible footprint they now have around the world.
Why he says they’ve “built the house, now they want to furnish it”.
His impressions of the great work being done in Australia as the headline act of the Shannon’s Speed Series.
Plus the global growth of GT4, the signing of former F1 Race Director Michael Masi and much more.
We sat in a corporate box at Sydney Motorsport Park, ahead of the weekend’s night racing, & just hit record.
Stephane has a quiet presence at first but that all changes the moment you start talking about his beloved GT racing.

Rusty headed to Wellington for this one for the announcement that Race of Champions is coming back down under for two shows in January 2027.
It’s the first time since the inception of ROC that the event will be staged in New Zealand.
The boss, Fredrik Johnsson, who founded ROC back in 1988 with rally legend Michele Mouton, talks to us about signing F1 stars Sebastian Vettel and Valtteri Bottas….why it didn’t take much arm twisting!
Plus the other names he’s chasing and the convos he’s having to ensure its a blockbuster line-up of locals and internationals.
And the blank canvas in Wellington which could make for one of the fastest & best tracks they’ve ever had!
Then Chaz Mostert joins us. The special permission he needed to green light his involvement and why he absolutely had to be part of it.
Why his phone is now ringing hot with other Supercars drivers keen to be part of it and who he’d like to join him.
He also reflects on that special win at the Bend 500 at the weekend, the job his co-driver Fabian Coulthard did and how he feels now heading to one of the biggest races of the year, Bathurst.

This ep was recorded on Father’s Day 2026 & TM is in great form as we launch into part 2 of a collection of his business & motorsport memories.
Going with his gut on a big freight or transport deal with the Kelly’s.
How time ‘wounds all heals’, that’s not a typo, I let Terry explain.
A shortlived Bathurst win for Paul in the 90’s and watching on as his son finally climbed that Mountain with Chaz Mostert & Ford in 2014.
Why Sprintcar legend Donny Schatz thought he was the gardner! And the incredible hospitality of Dale Earnhardt Jnr.
Plus the immense joy of seeing his grandson Nash now making his own mark.
Be honest with where you’re at, set realistic goals and get after them! That’s just one of the fantastic takeaways from this ep.
Terry doesn’t waste words and I’m thrilled we captured some of his story. Fire it up for a listen.
Thanks to Mick Doohan, Donny Schatz, Paul Morris, Owen Kelly, Leigh Diffey, Alan Gow, Nigel Barclay, Nash Morris, Brodie Kostecki and more for their help before we recorded.
