The band started off as an informal jam band, with the eventual line-up becoming Partridge, Dan, Hayers, Michael, Sonja, Lynn, and Lucas Harwood. The band's name was created "last minute." Mackenzie wanted to name the band "Alan Alan" while another band member wanted Jim Morrison's nickname "Alan King." They eventually compromised with Alan Partridge and the Alan Partridge Wizard. Norwich artist Glenn Ponderhas created all of the band's album art, and a majority of their music videos.
