In this episode I lay out the way I will be moving forward with the content and structure of this podcast. I have a very personal connection to Recovery and Mental Health. I am very excited to share more content, connect with amazing people, and hear from brilliant minds on the subjects of Recovery, Mental Health, Nutrition, Physical activity, or any other self care practice. Not coming from a place of authority or pride but more so explaining my process and hearing others process throughout our pursuit of Recovery.I’ve been in recovery for over 12 years. For 4 of those years I was a program director at a young mens drug and alcohol facility in middle GA. This journey for me has been filled with many different experiences. From relapse, to recovery, to restoration in my family, to learning what to and not to allow in my life personally. I am married to my wife, who I love dearly. Have two beautiful daughter, who are the joy of my life and I get to do work I love. It wasn’t always like this though. Honestly, it was the opposite of this.Addiction can be a difficult and overwhelming experience, but it is possible to recover and build a fulfilling, sober life. In this podcast, we will be discussing various approaches to recovery, sharing the stories of people who have successfully overcome addiction, some of my personal stories & hearing from subject matter experts on the topic of mental health, Nutrition, Therapeutic Approaches, & Science backed data.KINTSUGIWhen I think of this podcast and what I want to communicate, I believe this is the best representation of my experience so far. Kintsugi!Kintsugi is a Japanese art form in which broken pottery is repaired using a special lacquer mixed with gold, silver, or platinum. The repaired pottery is often more beautiful and valuable than it was before it was broken, because the repairs are considered part of the pottery's history and story. Also, because of the breaks in the pottery itself there is a one of one componet to them as well. Making the art distinctly unique and set apart.Kintsugi can be seen as a metaphor for mental health in that it emphasizes the importance of embracing and healing from our flaws and mistakes, rather than trying to hide or ignore them. By acknowledging and working through our challenges, we can become stronger and more resilient. Since everyone has a different set of circumstances, challenges, family systems, trauma, and life experiences there is a one of one component to our journey as well. The beauty that can come from that is incredible and in my humble opinion, the world needs to see that art and story for what it is. Here are some great resources & information - I am not paid for sharing this **Kintsugi - A great article on the topic I mention in todays episode https://mymodernmet.com/kintsugi-kintsukuroi/**Rich "Arlene" Lewis - Pathways Clinic - Excellent counselor who I have worked with in the past https://www.pathwayscounselingclinic.com/**Therapy Notebooks - Great notebook/journal style mental health tools I Use https://shop.therapynotebooks.com/Thanks for checking out the podcast! 2022 was such a great year! I am very thankful for all the amazing people I got to meet, work with, and develop relationships with. This episode is the first ever, "SOLO PODCAST" for me. The last 10 podcasts I had some amazing guests on and man it was a joy speaking with them and hearing their story. In this episode I break down where I plan to take the podcast this year and the slight directional change I am doing with the content itself. I also, review my Top 5 Takeaways from 10 interviews and starting a podcast in August of 2022! Lots of things were learned, insecurities getting dealt with, and amazing new relationships developing. It was great!TOP 5 TAKEAWAYS Finding Balance In Life Is KEY Sometimes You're The Hammer, Sometimes You're the Nail. The Concept of Extreme Ownership. Live A Little. Never, Never, NEVER Give Up.In this episode, I break down each concept with where I am at with it personally and tell some of my own personal stories where they have applied. I honestly questioned posting it because it's pretty open and vulnerable but if there's anything I have learned throughout my time in recovery and on this path towards mental health it's that true connection and relationships all begin to develop deeply at the points of humility and vulnerability. I had the chance to sit down with Greg and Michelle Vines recently for a great conversation about Vines Pest Solutions (their family owned business), faith, family, importance of balance in life, navigating a traumatic time with their children where they were both in horrible car accidents that ultimately changed the pace at which Greg was working. To hear their story and wisdom was such an experience. They are good people who care deeply for the community of Dublin, their employees, and most importantly their family. Greg and Michelle also shared about the team they have, their strategic process for hiring, and the value the entire team brings to what they offer. They share some about the origins of the business, the great support from the community, & family they've received. From laughter to tear jerking moments trying to put myself in their situation with hospital stays it was an incredible conversation. Here's their socials and website if you need any pest control services. You won't be disappointed by the service or customer service.VINES PEST SOLUTIONS SOCIALSFACEBOOK INSTAGRAMFollow me on Social to stay updated with new content and projects!Jon Roberts - FacebookJon Roberts - InstagramJon Roberts - YouTubeThanks for checking out the podcast! This conversation with Josh Gardner was AMAZING! He is the CFO of a company named Symphona. They currently have four locations in Georgia, 130-140 employees, and do a lot of business all over! They are primarily a tax consulting and financial services firm but are expanding into IT as well. Josh shares his life experience growing up in a small town, the culture shock of going from that to The University of Alabama, and all he learned throughout that process. He goes into the struggle of fear of failure, dealing with introversion in his current leadership position (the positives and negatives), his core values, and how important work life balance is. Josh also shares his take on extreme ownership in every life facet, how his faith is an anchor for his identity (not his work, perceived success, financial gain, or accolades), and how always making time for his family by setting healthy boundaries with that dynamic is so crucial to a well rounded life. All in all this was an incredibly insightful and fun conversationSymphona Website - https://www.symphona.us/Symphona Facebook -https://www.facebook.com/wearesymphonaSymphona Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/symphonallp/Symphona Linktree - https://linktr.ee/symphonaRoots Beneath The Rocks PodcastApple Podcast - https://apple.co/3W5fLqySpotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/6SbY4uvS3UxVLT9xv6AoL0?si=52243e397f514a01Buzzsprout - https://www.rootsbeneaththerocks.comFOLLOW ME ON SOCIALFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/JonRoberts93Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/j_probs/Thanks for checking out the podcast! I sat down recently with Cole Miller & John Thomson from Dublin Jiu Jitsu Academy & Miller Martial Arts & Fitness! Cole has been a fighter for the majority of his life. He was on season 5 of The Ultimate Fighter and afterwards went onto to fight in the UFC. John is a 1st degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt and long time instructor of that particular Martial Art. The conversation we had together was incredible. We go into the difference between “training” in martial arts and receiving an “education”. They strive to provide not only excellent training tailored for the individual, their goals, their physical aptitude, & current skill level in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but also take them through a structured process where a solid education can be obtained. Not only that but the resources available through Cole, John, & their entire team of incredible coaches is stemming from the great lineage of the Gracie family & Cole’s exposure to American Top Team. Between the Gracie family lineage & American Top Team (world class, world champion producing fighters, 6 years in a row #1 ranked MMA training institute world wide) the value & quality of this martial art is unprecedented for our area in middle Georgia. Cole & John’s share some of their insights:The desire they have to not just keep people as students but rather produce top tier teachers of this art. Leadership development. How humility is essential to growing & that often shared suffering with others breeds deeper relationships & communityThe constant openness to assessing, learning, and growing through analyzing trainingTheir passion for impacting communities in a positive way through their Martial Art that has so many practical lessons that carry over to every area of lifeThe importance of not judging yourself based off of the performance or abilities of others because there are so many varying factors to each individual from age, genetic predisposition, general health, mental health, and athleticism. Sometimes your the hammer and sometimes your the nail. We want to teach nice to be tough & mean guys to be nice. Paying homage to the world class trainers and teachers who taught them what they know. Giving back what’s been giving to them. How what they do and how they run their Jiu Jitsu Academy will validate the individual and their attempts to learn and practice this Martial Art. Sat down with Tripp Patat from Augusta Junk Removal. He is a long time friend who has a story that is SO worth the listen. When I met him he was facing a 10 year prison sentence, struggling with addiction issues, and a lost soul. He has been through a lot in life. After getting clean and working at a rehab/regeneration facility he lost both of his parents within a month of each other. He remained sober and did not relapse despite the trauma of these unexpected losses in his life. We talk about embracing grief, not running from or burying the pain, how grief like that comes in waves at times where it seems manageable and other times where it sweeps you away because it is so overwhelming. He talks about his healing journey, starting a business, marriage, parenthood, and his top three insights that he's pulled from his life experience thus far. I am proud to call this man my friend and brother. I hope you guys enjoy this one!! Thanks for checking out the podcast!
