Most fun way to do history
Telling the stories of Roman emperors but doing so in a highly entertaining and engaging way often makes the details stick in a way conventional telling does not. So whether you’ve found yourself at a kids party with Constantius II, date night with Caligula, or at the good old horse farm with Maximinus Thrax, you are sure to have a good time.

One of the best
I’ve owed Rob and Jamie this 5 star review for a while now. This is honestly one of the funniest podcasts I listen to. I love the ongoing jokes, end of episode sketches and the full on embrace of every outlandish detail those Roman historians could come up with. But at the same time I have a lot of confidence that they’re doing A LOT of work behind the scenes and actually know what they’re talking about. Thanks for the laughs and nuggets of knowledge guys!

Brilliant!
Great way to learn about Roman Emperors for all levels of nerdiness. We all know about the famous emperors, but Rob and Jamie shine in the obscurity. From the little studied Jeffianus family to the ferocious lion Mr Stabby you will learn it all. If you have time for only one episode, listen to Didius Julianus. It won’t disappoint!

Brilliant work
Absolutely amazing podcast. Very fine and just kept me coming back for more. Perfect show to binge when you work nights and want to know more about Roman emperors. The two hosts just have a cool vibe and make it fun.

Why should you listen to this podcast?
Did you know that Septimus Severus sounded like Sean Connery? Did you know that Claudius had a pet rock? Did you know that Vespasian had a Vespa? If not, then, this is the podcast for you. As the hosts say themselves, this is the História Augusta of Roman history podcasts. It is funny and informative in a way I had not experienced before in a podcast. Great job guys. I am only up to Getta, and am enjoying the podcast immensely.

My favorite podcast ever. I love Roman Emperors and there stories.Mice Duncan’s history of Rome is good, but it doesn’t go into detail on the emperors life’s, it also doesn’t cover the byzantines. You guys are also so funny. Thank you for doing this podcast.
I also think you should the Ottoman Sultans next.

Recently discovered this very informative, accessible and humorous podcast. As an American puts me in the mind of Roman History considered by a couple of The Beatles.

We’re hooked
I found out about this podcast on Reddit and it’s now probably the most frequent activity in our household. The history keeps me listening and the ridiculous humor keeps me coming back. My only beef is Elegabalus should have gotten Je Ne Caesar.

Funny Narrators and Also Educational
Love this series! Started learning Latin, so I wanted to learn more about the Roman Empire and particularly the decline. When I stumbled across this podcast, I immediately became hooked, so thank you for your humorous approach to learning! Carpe Diem!

Wish they had been my elementary school teachers!
Guys are hilarious, every episode makes me laugh out loud at least once. I wish I had two teachers who liked history and entertaining as much as these two. Finished all of the American presidents series and the first 10 emperors, I’m loving it! Keep it up.

Refuge in troubled times
I was so happy to see the Roman Series come back after all the Eastern emperors were ranked. The approach combining history with humor, with understated real-time context, helps this American listener cope with our current troubles. I love the Presidents series too, and the patreon content is excellent. Please keep on with the Holy Roman Empire so I don’t dread the series ending too much!

Hosts are awesome
I discovered Totalus Rankium a few months ago (I think the end of 2/23). As of this writing (6/21/23 or 21/6/23 depending on which side of the pond your from). I have listened to every episode of their Roman emperors podcast, and just finished their first episode on George Washington on their American presidents podcast. And all I have to say is that, I love their dynamic. Not only do they keep me entertained, but they also educate me on every episode. Rob and Jamie have found the perfect balance between education and entertaining. I hardly ever review, and have never commented on a podcast, but these gentleman deserve all the support I can give. I wish them the best of luck, and hope for many more years of their content.

Brings out my inner adolescent boy humor
I have really enjoyed this show! The hosts sound like two great friends who are on a learning spree together, who share a sense of humor, and who have watched all of Blackadder since their youth. Also you learn about the Roman Empire.

Funny
I love this podcast!! Rob and Jamie make me laugh at the jokes and skits that they put on at the end. I have never even heard of some of these emperors until I found this podcast.

Informative and Funny
I love this podcast! I think that this (and Totalus Rankium American Presidents) are the best historical podcasts out there. I love the light heartedness of this podcast! It makes this podcast easy to listen to. Keep up the good work!

Too good to fall asleep to
I was looking for a history podcast to fall asleep to. This is not the podcast for that! It’s too funny and interesting and has exacerbated my sleep deprivation.

Hilarious, informative review of Roman history
Totalus Rankium is one of my absolute favorite podcasts! The hosts do an amazing job of telling a clear, cohesive story about each Roman emperor, all while making you laugh along the way. This history can be dark and bloody, and it takes a lot of skill to address that sensitively while maintaining an overall light-hearted tone. Rob and Jamie pull off that balance beautifully, and their banter is really entertaining. Would absolutely recommend to anyone interested in learning more about the Roman Empire.

Dulce et utile
If poetry should be entertaining and instructive, this podcast certainly surpasses that threshold, and the length is epic! Jeff and Roger need at least one more friend, perhaps a monkey for royals sent to monasteries or nunneries, and an official eye-taker for Byzantine blindings. (I’m not too far into the second series.) I also love the humorous ending skits.

Great show...
The hosts are fun and very interesting… Rome and it’s emperors are fascinating. Love it….

Jeff is Such a Loser
I started out with the American Presidents, running through them very quickly as I binged 6 plus per day. I then backtracked to the Roman Emperors so I wouldn’t miss out on the fun of you both making history way more silly and enjoyable than it has a right to be. My absolute favorite thing is Jeff… the complete idiot who makes everything worse… as that’s my ex-husband’s name and very fitting. Love and kisses, J

I stumbled across this podcast and was looking for just one on Nero. Part way through that episode I decided to start with the first episode. Absolutely love all of this. Thank you both for this podcast. I can listen wherever I am and don’t have to read it all.

Amazing!
Listened to every minute. These guys put on a great show.

Cannot stop listening
Never much thought about the Roman Emperors but after catching up with their ranking of the American Presidents I wanted to keep hearing their hilarious and educational spin on history. Rob and Jamie are engaging and enlightening. They shine best when bantering back and forth with each other. That all having been said I now find myself binging all that is the lives, and deaths, of the Roman Emperors. I cannot recommend this podcast enough! It is amazing!

So funny!
I love Rob and Jamie's take on the Roman Emperors. I'm late to the party (found the podcast through Pontefacts through Bry's interview on The Other Half) and I've enjoyed every episode I've listened to. I'm about to start Season 1's Battle of the Winners and can't wait to see how things stack up (and who wins in the Round of Death.

BEST SHOW EVER
I think that this show is amazing. It teaches you a lot and it is so funny. The hosts are the best people for this show. The jokes and accents are amazing and hilarious. This is my favorite podcast.

They Get It
I agree with all the rave reviews, and I write this in particular to thank Rob and Jamie for their recognition of the sexism that dominated this patriarchal culture. Their ability to see it and to question the historical record because of it, moves this podcast from the mediocre to the excellent.

Changed my point of view!
I started listening to Rob and Jamie on their presidents podcast. I enjoy them SO much that I didn’t want to get to the end of their shows. I work for an insurance company at home, and can just sit and listen all day. I got half way through the presidents and thought I would give this podcast a try. NOT because I have any interest at all in Roman Emperors. I just simply wanted to continue to listen to Jamie and Rob tell their stories! (See how I put Jamie first for a change. Haha). Let me tell you, I am not disappointed! They have a way of providing the information in an interesting, informative, rememberable way. I have found that I actually do enjoy learning about the Emperor’s. Call me shocked! You two are simply hilarious and provide the information in layman’s terms, which many of us need. Lol. I am thrilled that I still have half the presidents to listen too, and I am only on episode 26 of the Emperor’s. I hope you keep up the good work and I never run out of episodes. Thanks for the fun ride down history lane, the comedy, and thanks for just being you. Two guys that see the humor in life and enjoy sharing their knowledge. Rob I know you put so much work in to each show. Know it is appreciated! Jamie I know you put no work in to each show. I love that! You are right with the audience asking the questions we didn’t even know we had. And to fill in the blanks with your jokes just makes my day every time. Keep doing what your doing! This 54 year old grandma from Illinois, sitting in the middle of cornfields, thanks you for your work!!

Phenomenal
I’m currently relistening to the entire catalog and 41 episodes in, it’s still an absolute joy. All podcasters talk about their rough starts, but with Rob and Jamie the humour and style clicks from the very first episode. Thank you guys so much for making these — but whatever happened to the Whiskey episodes?

Fantastic Mix of Mike Duncan and Rex Factor
I love love love this podcast. It is the perfect mike of Mike Duncan’s The History of Rome (Or Robin’s History of Byzantium for season 2) and Rex Factor. Super funny, entertaining, and engaging. Whether you like Roman history or not, this show is an amazing, hilarious podcast everyone will enjoy!

Hilarious yet Educational
History used to be so boring (slept through it in my history classes) but your program changed that -I’d find/hear myself laughing while doing morning yard work listening to your Podcast (actually, I listen to your Podcast while I’m doing anything around the house). I’m still on Severus (Chapter 22) and so far my favorite Emperor was Antonius Pius. I’m a Filipino (stay-at-home mother) living in Ohio, USA.
Thank you for your program. Jaime, you are so funny! Keep it up! ☺️

Fascinating, Funny History - A Favorite!
Came to this podcast via the American President’s edition and it has gotten me through some dark phases of the global pandemic. Rob and Jamie are engaging hosts and I was so pleased to have a second opportunity to listen to them after having caught up on their other series. Lots of laughs, lots to think about, and endless crazy Romans. Great job and many thanks, gents!

Binge-Worthy and Lively. What’s not to Like?
Run, don’t walk, to download this podcast. Rob and Jamie bring the emperors alive with humor and intelligence, with help from Jeff, Roger, and Gilbert. Rob is the “brains” and tells the story of each emperor. He does his research well, with lively descriptions about the quality of his sources. Jamie supplies the audience, and his dramatization and unalloyed joy (think 10 year old boy) at some of the stories and names makes me smile like an idiot while I listen on the subway. The vignettes after each episode are alone worth listening to. Rob and Jamie play off each other and weave a world of Roman history littered with pet rocks, bum knees and goats holding up a roof. You need this podcast.

Smart and Funny
I love this podcast. Rob and Jamie never fail to entertain and educate. When I finish an episode, I feel both smarter and a wee bit dumber but my spirit is always lifted. I do worry about Jeff sometimes, though.

Outstanding Podcast!
I absolutely love this podcast! The hosts are hilarious and have great chemistry, the history is well-researched, but their greatest strength is fleshing out a story when the sources become scant. The Jeffianus family, Historians at the Pub, Roger, Barbaric Accountants, Bird People, and many other characters will add to your 100% accurate knowledge of Ancient Rome. Download all their episodes!
