A dancer, scholar, and a <a href='https://www.oberlin.edu/news/professor-dance-ann-cooper-albright-receives-2019-guggenheim-fellowship'>2019-2020 John Simon Memorial Guggenheim fellow</a>, Ann Cooper Albright is professor and chair of the Department of Dance. Originally an undergraduate philosophy major at Bryn Mawr College, she received an MFA in dance at Temple University, and a PhD in performance studies at New York University.Combining her interests in dancing and cultural theory, including phenomenology, gender, sexuality and feminist studies, Albright teaches a variety of courses that seek to engage students in both practices and theories of the body. The Rolling Point is a fundamental mode of physical communication within Contact Improvisation dance. CI inspires a deep physical listening, one that balances sensing one’s internal space while engaging other bodies across conflict and intimacy. We interview artists, activists, teachers, and improvising human beings to discuss the politics and poetics of purposeful embodiment. Using the body as our lens to make sense of the complicated issues we are facing in the world today, we try to get deep into the cells of our conversations and see if we can find a new unknown place together.
