The Nursing Exclusion
Today we’re addressing an issue that has disturbed the force within the nursing profession. The U.S. Department of Education recently released proposed regulations that left in place the omission of Nursing and several other professions from the list of recognized professional degree programs and removed the verbiage “Not limited to…”, an exclusion that has raised serious concerns about how our profession is valued, understood, and supported at the federal level. This decision has implications for graduate education, funding structures, and the long-term pipeline of advanced practice and doctoral-prepared nurses. It is not just a policy debate; it is a statement about the place of nursing in the American workforce.
