What happens when you're used to taking care of everyone else and suddenly life asks you to pay attention to what you need?

For Sue Weldon, that shift came after being diagnosed with breast cancer at just 39 years old while raising three young children. As she navigated treatment, surgery, recovery, and the physical and emotional changes she never expected, she began exploring integrative approaches that helped her feel more supported through the experience.

That journey ultimately inspired Sue to create Unite for HER, where she now serves as CEO and Founder. What began with her own experience has grown into a national nonprofit providing integrative support to thousands of people affected by breast and ovarian cancer through services including medical acupuncture, oncology massage, nutrition counseling, yoga, and mental health support.

Sue's work has earned recognition across the healthcare and nonprofit sectors, including the West Chester University Distinguished Alumni Award, the March of Dimes Salute to Women of Achievement, and the Catalyst of Care Award. Most recently, she authored Heal Empower Restore: A Revolutionary Roadmap to Support the Body and Mind through Cancer Care, bringing together her personal experience and the work she has spent years building through Unite for HER.

In this conversation, we talk about what cancer taught Sue about listening to her body and honoring her own needs, the parts of going through cancer that women aren't always prepared for, and why treating the disease is only one part of supporting the whole person.

We also talk about something that extends far beyond cancer: how difficult it can be to receive when you're accustomed to being the one who gives.

Sue shares what it was like to let other people show up for her, why receiving support can be a gift to the person giving it too, and how she learned to create her own non-negotiables around her health and well-being.

Whether cancer has touched your life personally or you've spent years putting yourself somewhere near the bottom of your own priority list, this conversation is a powerful reminder that honoring what you need isn't selfish and you don't have to wait until life forces you to begin listening.
