Christians, Government, & the Law: Part 2 | Return to Reason, Episode 38
Expanding on our discussion in Part 1, we use the trial of Jesus before Pilate & Herod to examine the lens with which Christians should view their expectations and desires of the government and its leaders. Christians, Government, & the Law: Part 1 | Return to Reason, Episode 37
How should Christians view their relationship with government? How should scripture be used to support of legislative initiatives? Departing from the typical Return to Reason routine, I put on my rarely-seen "theology hat" in hopes of answering these questions. The Overton Window, Asymmetrys, & Examining Goals
Welcome to another livestream (of consciousness). This time, Kevin from Engineering Politics indulges me springing my stream of consciousness/ external processing on him, as we discuss the existence of multiple Overton Windows, asymmetrical directions of criticisms, and the goals of thought leaders within Far-Left Orthodoxy. All that, and so much more, in 105 minutes that would probably be better spent watching the most underrated movie of all time, Stranger Than Fiction. Here's some info on Stranger Than Fiction, which is completely unrelated to this podcast episode: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0420223/... Here's some info on Kevin's content, Engineering Politics, which you should totally go check out instead of watching me ramble for the better part of two hours: Locals: https://engineeringpolitics.locals.com/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmJL... Government Competency & Other Oxymorons
Discussing how we should think about what the government's "job" is with Kevin from the Engineering Politics podcast. Here, we look at what exactly it means to contemplate the job of government, as compared to how we think about other "jobs." Kevin is a Conservative content creator who sincerely strives to explain the Conservative worldview in a way that is both digestible and informative. Although we clearly don't agree on everything, Kevin and I do agree on the necessity of productive and good-faith dialogue. I look forward to collaborating with Kevin more in the future, and would strongly encourage you to check out his content if you're interested in a tempered and insightful look at modern Conservatism. My plea for us: Plant a flag. Don't budge.
Realized I'd been driving and yelling into the abyss for about half an hour, so I decided to pull over and make a short video. Basically, it'd be really nice if we rejected those exploiting anger and sewing divisions, and instead planted a flag on the hill of human decency, declaring: "From this spot, I will not move." Could you please just... not? (Impromptu mild rant)
Let's discuss the act of trying to get blood from turnips... Conservative commentators, no matter how well-motivated, need to pump the breaks on the daily rants against the government. We're all frustrated, but this isn't helping. Return to Reason is a weekly podcast on contemporary cultural and political issues. Fueled by cynical optimism.
