I enjoy the podcast. They have a great chemistry and truly feel like cousins. What I can’t understand is the inconsistency in recording. They go weeks without recording, but there is never a heads up they’re taking a break. Lack of consistency makes it a hard podcast to love.

I generally enjoy this podcast and maybe it’s not the forum for challenging guests. But I wanted one of the co-hosts to challenge guest Iyanla Vanzant’s view that one of the reasons people (in the USA I assume) don’t do the work of therapy is laziness. Ms Vanzant has been upheld by Oprah and entertainment media as a credible spiritual and mental health adviser. Her laziness comment lacked the awareness, empathy and skill one would expect from someone who is a counselor, but it does reflect the harshness of USA culture. More importantly, in a context where too many people are overworked, underpaid, not educated about the value of therapy and can’t afford healthcare, podcasts featuring counselors like Vanzant can be so helpful. It’s not the end of the world, but co-hosts, please think about your audience so that when you’re showing respect to your guest, you don’t forget to think about how their words may hurt your audience.

Love the latest pods. I always listen to three early later and most recent. Then I decide if I want more! It’s like sitting with my cousins! I feel like I could be your Asian cousin! Anywho, I’m starting this from the way beginning so I can listen to everything !! Keep going ladies!

I love podcasts and find it hard to locate podcasts that are fun AND informative that speak to my interests as a 50 year old African American woman. This podcast does that! From politics to pop culture to health and wellness, The Cousins discuss it all. A recent podcast with Toure’ did not land well with me for several reasons. This is the same Toure’ that faced allegations of sexual harassment in the workplace 2 years ago, which was highly concerning to me and I don’t recall any real dialogue in the Black community (which I am a member of) about the allegations. I do remember a sort of silence and dismissal of the allegations, which doesn’t give space for women to be heard. There was no mention of the allegations in the podcast...which I did not expect...however Toure’ made comments that were insensitive and from a place of privilege that were glossed over. For example, in his recounting of how he and his wife got the vaccine, he described the pharmacy that offered the vaccine as “ghetto” and is intimated that the Black folks that were in line for lotto tickets instead of the vaccine were “ghetto”, too. *crickets* In his remarks about DMX days after his passing he shared a story about DMX having a woman to his hotel room that left her phone number on the windshield of his truck after she spotted him at a mall. In his comments he mentioned earlier that night he was present when DMX was professing his love to his child’s mother (who he was in a relationship with) during a heated phone conversation. Relevance? *crickets*. Absolutely none. To their credit, the cousins worked to move past the privileged comments Toure’ made and did not follow him down those unnecessary paths. It would have affirming to hear the cousins challenge Toure’s comments or at least counter them with positive comments meant to diminish those comments. I am hopeful Toure’ listens to his comments on the podcast and reflects on how he could have shown up less privileged and more empathetic, which is exactly how the cousins show up on the podcast. Overall, a good listen and the cousins have great chemistry. I am so glad they are back after a break and I can’t wait to hear from them for the duration of 2021. All good things...

Please stop talking over each other. It gives permission to your guests to do the same. It’s very annoying and distracting to your listeners. Please do better!

I have adopted both of these women into my virtual podcast family. They are beautiful, smart, opinionated and funny! Listening to them feels like home. 😊

I had a friend suggest I listen to the episode with Bevy Smith. He said it was a ‘must listen’ because it touched on what we’d been talking about. Building my brand. Well, this episode was like me and my girls getting together and just speaking truth. It felt good just to listen. I didn’t know these ladies had a podcast, but I’m glad I do now. This feels like a 40 vibe and I like that can relate to what they’re saying. Too often I feel like some podcasts I’ve come across are more for younger women and I can’t relate. I think I found a keeper.

Joy is truly one of the dumbest people on the planet. Conspiracy theory after conspiracy theory. Openly racist against white people and jews. Has she found those hackers yet?

This is exactly what you need.

I really enjoy these ladies and their perspective but the lack of professionalism is disappointing. The volume issues & dogs barking are too much.

Please take care of your dog so it doesn’t bark during your at home podcast. I am a devoted fan but can not listen with a constantly barking dog.

I just discovered you guys a few weeks and I too noticed a slight issue with the sound quality. I actually thought it was my device. Some shows were clear as a bell. Keep up the great work.

I admire Jackie and Joy and I love this podcast. BUT the technical issues really hurt the podcast and cause listeners to stop listening. The audio issues are consistent but the latest episode was unbearable. It was obvious that Jackie’s microphone was off for the entire podcast... how did you not know? I understand that mistakes can happen but this is not the first time. Advice to the producer: please check microphones and have a test run before recording the live show. I will continue to support this podcast and I really hope the technical issues improve.

...the only reason why this review isn’t 5 stars is because of the sound quality—it’s not great and is inconsistent. Between the low amplification, mic placement and peaking I’m struggling y’all. This is an easy fix...please, please. Other than that, the free flowing conversation is awesome!

The sound levels have always been inconsistent, but the latest episode was the worst. Joy Ann sounded fine but Jacque sounded like she was too far from the microphone. I’m not sure how no one noticed that before posting the episode. It made it really hard to focus on what Jacque was saying. Otherwise I do enjoy the show but please fix your sound levels.

Great show! You guys should look up @iamblackgirlcurls on IG. Different philosophy, but I’ve been natural since 2013 and it’s the best advice I’ve received thus far! Keep up the great work!

Oh my goodness Joy, you and Jackie are hilarious. I laughed until I cried because of the chicken hugging. So happy you are back Joy, but, you have to take it easy. Your body has gone through a major trauma and even though you are back to work, you need to ease your way back. This is my first time listening to the podcast, but definitely to the last.

I always feel like I’m in the studio with the two of you. I talk to my radio like I’m part of the peanut gallery. Keep up the great work!

I’m glad Jacque has found a diet that works for her. However being vegan isn’t right for everyone and the messaging lately on this podcast has come across as bullying and misinformed. If you want to dole out nutritional advice have some nutritionists on to discuss the science.

You ladies are the best. I love the often contrasting perspectives on the everyday matters that effect “our” daily lives. The way you can laugh at yourselves is priceless. I love to take you along on my way long drive home. My one complaint...I can’t always hear you! Honestly, I get in my car, set you guys on “go” and have to turn you up to 47 to hear. You talk at different decibels so I can hear one of you clearly. I love Michael Boatman but could only hear some of his interview. Most frustrating is when you read the promos, they come out at FULL volune. Please fix. I love you and want to hear you.

I love the show and all the topics you touch on. However, sometimes it sounds like you and you’re guests are not close enough to the microphones. So you sound low and far away. Also loving you both but Jackie sometimes over talks and interrupts Joy quite a bit.

I love this podcast! I watch AMJoy every weekend (or catch on DVR/podcast) so it’s cool to hear Joy-Ann on a lighter note but still hearing her political perspective. And Jacque, my Soror, is bomb! Watched her on BET News years ago so it’s cool to hear from her on a different note. This podcast is cool, informative, funny, and like y’all in my great room chillin conversing. Kudos, keep it up! It makes my commutes much better!!!!

Jacque’s Alexa story had me literally LOL’ing. More importantly- Will you ever fix the sound issue? The volume is too low!

I love every aspect of the show. I also love when Chis Witherspoon makes an appearance, you guys crack me up! The only thing I do have an issue with which is not Joy-Ann Reid’s fault but the constant praise and affection towards the Kardashian’s is nauseating to say the least (cough-cough Jacque Reid)!!! I always cringe when black women sort of idolize those women. I think it’s mainly due to the European beauty standard that has been shoved down our throats for centuries and it’s almost like the experiment where black children prefer the white doll over the black doll. I mean why else are they relevant and why else would they receive so much adulation? At the end of the day, you obviously can talk about what you want because it’s your podcast and we have Freedom of Speech but I literally want to cut the podcast off anytime I here any of their names! 😩 Anyway, I enjoy you guys and look forward to listening to every episode, it’s so good!
