The point of this podcast is twofold. Firstly, to promote the new Kevin Smith flick 'Red State'. Between audio clips and the video trailer of the movie, this is part viral marketing campaign and part world building backstory. For a movie no one has seen yet, he has generated tons of buzz just from honest background discussion about creating. This is the second bit: creating a filmmakers bible. Kevin sees the digital revolution and guerilla style that has arisen and is embracing it. This is his way of handing back to the kids dreaming with their point-and-shoot digital camcorder making backyard cinema! I wish I was in Cali rather than Oregon so I could visit the live Q&A filmschool. My fiancee and I love the podcast and has made her want to see it sight unseen! You've made fans of us Smith.

I think a lot of people are missing the entire point of this podcast. It's not a podcast to market his new film Red State (though it helps) but mainly a film school for those who want to learn things about filmmaking from not just Actors, producers, and writer directors, but the other important people on a film set that really make the magic happen. The episode with Adam Druxman was not only hilarious, but was insanely informative to me personal for I've been cutting my teeth lately as an AD, so it was great to pick up a few tricks just by listening to that episode. And I didn't have to spend 20 grand for a semester of school to learn the same thing. So thank you Smith and team for putting this out there. This is better than any commentary or behind the scenes featurette. I hope he does this with every film he makes thus forward.

I love listening to how many processes it takes to make a movie and listening to Kevin Smith talk about it is informative and as well humorous. Keep up the awesome work!

I did not like this podcast at first as it felt like shameless self promotion, but this turned into a wonderfully informative and enjoyable show once Smith started adding guests. Anyone interested in films and filmaking must listen.

This movie is going to blow everything bad that any critic has ever said about Kevin Smith away!! Red State of the Union is going to be awesome! I can't wait.

I enjoy the media process that Kevin Smith has chosen to use with this film. Having the podcast is a good medium of updating the viewer on what is going on, giving them an in depth look at a much anticipated film. I feel that people who don't appreciate a good venture into another genre won't be able to understand the courage or strength to try something new like Kevin Smith has done with Red State. The ideas that he is introducing and the talent that he is bringing into the film is an immense step towards becoming an even better film maker.

This is an awesome way for Kevin to build excitement about this movie!! I have already told everyone i know to look out for this flick.. Can't wait for the RED STATE movie!!

I have a boring job and without the grade a entertainment provided by the smodcast podcasts i would never make it.

I'm looking forward to Red State. I disagree with the ego stroking argument. He is simply selling his movie! What's wrong with that? If you were in his shoes it'd be stupid not to do the same. Haters gonna hate. Smod Em!

I love Smith's movies but his oversaturation and desperate attempts to boost his ego is sad. This is a shameless podcast.

All you need to know. Kevin plays a clip from his film then asks the audience their opinion, which basically is them telling him how great he is. Then he agrees with them about how great he is. Occasionally he'll have a guest come on and tell him how great he is. The end. Kevin's ego has been thoroughly stroked.

@clintilona - The whole point is that Kevin made the movie that HE wanted to make. He's marketing it the way HE wants to market it. Frankly, at this point, I'm not so sure he cares if anyone else likes it. I'm sure he hopes you do, but his happiness doesn't hinge on it. And you know what? It's really cool to hear someone talk about something they're so happy with and passionate about.

First I have to say I love the quality and consistancy of the smodcast network. This is more than just an ad for KEvins new movie, it is pure entertainment! I hope this flick is as good as it sounds.

So far I've listened and relisten to the trailer over and I've again. I can't wait to see the teaser trailer in the hopefully near future. Love your work Kevin.
