The Doctrine of Discovery was issued by Pope Alexander VI on May 4, 1493. In July 2022 his successor Pope Francis I showed that the colonial countries of Turtle Island that he can't be bothered to even know what their precious Doctrine of Discovery is. Meanwhile the courts all around the world use this document to justify their colonization of the world, genocide of the people and do so to this day.  There are finally officers getting charged for the murder of Breonna Taylor, but they shouldn't be stopping there. With the amount of murder committed against people of colour by those who are supposed to be serving and protecting us unjustifiable. An empty apology, an act of resistance, and expected reconciliation from acts of pageantry. We are not "Canada's Indigenous People", we were here long before Canada was even a concept.  From the billions in assets The Vatican holds, the only thing they could bring themselves to give was an apology. Lands decimated, people displaced and enslaved, murdered and raped all in the name of their religion. Gifts given to the Pontiff are the only thing racists will see, regardless of all the decolonization work people are doing across Turtle Island. Is an apology enough? ***Obviously not -  rhetorical question; we know the answer already. In 1884, amendments to the Indian Act, 1876 were adopted and provided for the creation of Indian residential schools. The Indian residential schools in Canada were predominately funded and operated by the Government of Canada and Roman Catholic, Anglican, Methodist, Presbyterian and United churches. The Catholic Church ran most of Canada's residential schools, which were federally funded institutions meant to strip Indigenous children of their traditions, language and culture. Thousands of children died from malnutrition, abuse, disease or neglect. Although the Mohawk Institute was not Catholic run (like some felt they needed to point out), it is still a legacy of the residential school system as the first that opened in 1831 and not closing until June, 27, 1970. Semantics aside, all religion had a hand; and it stems predominantly from the Roman Catholic Church. Watch or listen tomorrow morning on Red Truth & White Lies: The Reality of Turtle Island. "15,000 students from 20 First Nation communities were at the school. Many of them were abducted from their homes and abused there. Records indicate there were 54 deaths at the residential school, but local police services said they didn't know where they were buried" ~CBC Hamilton The last federally-funded residential school, Kivalliq Hall in Rankin Inlet, closed in 1997. Residential schools operated in Canada for more than 160 years, with upwards of 150,000 children passing through their doors.

The Canadian celebrations are going to begin soon, with people sending fireworks into the air not realizing or ever caring what that day truly means. The Canadian flag is red, because they celebrate the blood of our ancestors that they painted the earth with.

In this episode we deal with some homophobic and racist behaviour from Milestone Bath Experts in Belleville, Ontario. They refused to address their behaviour for over a month, resulting in us calling out this behaviour. The CEO and Founder, Jeff Whitley has yet to comment, and the HR representatives are pushing this issue to the side. We also have to address some things about the Klan movement they're calling "Freedom", as well as the distinct difference in how police handle situations with certain people. 

Some things need to be left to the BIPOC community to be called out, this happens to be one of those episodes where feelings of the front lines get agitated by those who pick and choose when to take action. From the Black Canadian community who stay silent when there are atrocities happening still, to the Indigenous community who are stuck in a pit and have a crabs in the bucket mentality; telling people to do something, then telling them it can't be left to one person while not volunteering themselves is hypocritical.   Today, we're here to tell you to bring em out. The signs, the shovels, the seeds, the songs, everything that our Indigenous and Black ancestors fought for we need to fight to keep. The murder won't stop, the government won't ensure there is food on your tables. The only one who can bring down the establishment and dismantle the systems of oppression is us as a collective.   Support each other, rise up.
