Great Podcast!
I think I hit a nerve when I called this podcast "political satire," so I won't say that again. I will say this is a great podcast in which an old-fashoned southern grandpa and a knucklehead rage against the political machine. I love it, I've listened to it for years and I highly recommend it.

Doesn’t get any better than these guys.
The best podcast by far that I have found and the only one that I make sure to listen to every episode... extremely entertaining and funny. If you love great satire, you’ve found the right place.

Extremely rare find. I appreciate having these guys in any political climate.
They are extremely talented; with their deep understanding of political nuisances, they are able to deliver quality edutainment in an engaging and unique way.

Use to be funny but has slowly materialized in to day after day of Trump Bashing. He wasn’t exactly my first choice either but you can see this or hear anywhere 24 /7.

Liberals attempt comedy, disaster ensues.
Read the positive comments, thought I’d give it a shot. Love the accents, kind of understand what they’re saying, and think their subtext is coming from a place of hate. Leave that to a genius like Bill Hicks. These guys would be good pitch men at selling BBQ sauce. At least then someone would write them a script, and we’d at least have an idea of what they’re trying to say.

Best politicomedy podcast out there!
The dynamic between good ole boy Dunlap the dirt nap and Southern grandpa Jackie is genius. I never listened to Podcasts, until I decided to give this Podcast 5 minutes of my time. Been hooked ever since. I’ve even gone back and started listening and following their story from Episode 1. Highly recommend!
Pleased user!
Brilliant
Half the show is their imaginary sponsors, (Firesign Theater takes over News from Lake Woebegone) the other half is hilarious, insightful political commentary in fantastic Tennessee accents.
Love it.

One of the best political podcasts out there
Aside from being hilarious, this is honestly the most palatable, evenhanded political discourse I've ever heard in a podcast. It has not only invigorated my interest in following current events, but my interest in classic Johnny Horton tunes as well. Thank ye both kindly.

Redneck satire of a crazy world
You may remember these guys from the 2007 CNN-Youtube presidential debate.
They sharp political satirists disgusted by both Hillary Clinton, the Ultimate Yankee Donald Trump, and their fellow rednecks who voted for the billionaire clown to become President Trumplusconi.
Entertaining stories of a mostly mythical Murfreesboro where characters Jackie Broyles runs a market and layabout Dunlap gets high and chases women.
Check 'em out. They're hilarious.

Long Time Listener
Don’t do much with social media but a long time listener. RSU is my perfect companion when I am shoveling manure in the barn! Farm chores go much faster when I am laughing my head off to the continuing stories from Murfreesboro and political commentary from Jackie and Dunlap. Thank you boys for helping me survive the post election year of “President Dumbass” and make it more bearable for this middle-aged, middle class lady from Colorado.

My Favorite Podcast
I've been a fan of Red State Update since they appeared on a CNN YouTube Repubican Debate Q&A in 2007, and for years enjoyed their short YouTube videos. When they went from short videos to long form podcasts in about 2012, I feel they really hit their stride - these two guys are PERFECT for the podcast format, as they slip into character, hit record, and Every show has topical banter about current politics, and also a brillian "sponsors" section which oftens serves as a slow-burn method of long-term storytelling about fictional and colorful characters and events in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. They weave some amazing and hilarious storylines that unfold over the course of weeks, months, or even years, that keep me coming back and relistening to old episode again and again. This is the only podcast that I never miss, and enjoy as much as I can, while I can (as they've said from the very beginning, they're going to wrap up the podcast soon)!

Ole Timey ain't what it used to be.
I've been listening to these guys since they first started, and I always enjoyed their off-kilter humor and the dynamics between "Jackie" and "Dunlap." I'd go as far as saying that it used to be one of my top two or three favorite podcasts. Unfortunately, what used to rate as a "Great" podcast is now, at best, merely an "OK" one.
Over the last year the podcast has gotten so consumed with angry Trump-bashing that the only funny thing left is the "Sponsor" segment. I can laugh easily at political jokes and gags across the political spectrum, including when the humor is directed at politicians I support, but that's not what this podcast delivers any more. Now it delivers mostly anger and bile under the pretense of humor. I still tune in now and then to chuckle at the Sponsor segment, but I skip the rest.

These two are talented and genuinely funny broadcasters.
I fast-forward to the politics section every time.
Dunlap and Jackie have a very sophisticated political analysis, under cover of colorful redneck characters.
My one suggestion is to make separate podcasts for the politics section and the Southern-fried humor section. Then you won't lose all your Trump fans.

My favorite podcast in the world.
I have been a fan for over 10 years. These guys are hilarious. The chemistry between the characters Jackie & Dunlap is comedic genius at its best. I loved the old videos that launched them but I must say the podcast "The Ole Timey Country Down Home Red State Update Poscast 'n' Em" is one of my favorite things on the planet. The vast array of outstanding characters they create and the stories that unfold are nothing short of comedy gold. Give it a listen.

Stephen Colbert eat your heart out!
These two are among the greatest, subtle satirists on the Internet. Whether they are Poes or earnest exaggerators, Travis and Jonathan are hilarious! The Red State Update is one of the most enjoyable pieces of improv and political skewering. Dukes of Hazard meet Lake Woebegone.

Blue Collar Colbert Report
I just found this podcast while attending Politicon and have listening to 75+ episodes in the last week. It's the best. Also, check out the Youtube channel for some skits and remotes at political rallies. If you are from the south but a liberal, this will hit close to home. While they occasionally use dirty language, they are never mean-spirited or hateful as you find in almost all other media that touches on politics. The comedy is extreme clever and self-effacing. I'm not kidding when I compare it to the Colbert Report. It's that sharp. Just thinking about Red State Update makes me laugh.

Pure brilliance disguised as stupidity!
I love the world of Jackie and Dunlap. I wish there was a TV show with all the colorful characters they talk about. The sponsors, the stories and the brilliant satire that some people out there don't comprehend. Keep up the great work guys and know that you have a dedicated audience out there loving everything you produce.

Down home
Funny cause they nail thse characters down ... they do not miss a speck, I knew so many Jackie and Dunlaps growing up it would make your head spin so I know they have it right. And thses last podcasts have really highlighted the tanlent and intelligence of these two as storytellers, writers, and actors ... I hope it never stops and someday they live high on the hog.

If scripted, it's genius. If unscripted, it's otherworldly.
Hilarious show that gets better once you've listened to a few and are able to understand the references and inside jokes. But, there is plenty of hilarity packed into each episode that even listening to one alone will generate tons of laughs. Great comedic timing and impeccable wit. I never thought I would say this about a podcast, but I eagerly await its arrival every week. It will be tragic if the future does not include a Red State Update show/movie showcasing the colorful characters of Murfreesboro, TN - Dr. Birdman, TT Slot, Jockie, JICKIE, Dom Podge, Don Jekyll Jr, McElroy Boys, etc. And, we can only hope that ol' Fred Thompson has a starring role.

Drawing from a Long Tradition
Red State Update draws from a long tradition of radio, television, and film “odd couple” pairings, calling to mind the likes of Lum and Abner, Laurel and Hardy, and countless others. Central characters Jackie Broyles and Dunlap appeared first in a series of YouTube videos spanning several years before making the transition into podcasts. Jackie runs a store (part barbecue stand, part convenient store) in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and represents the classic old codger mystified by the modern world, represented in large part by Dunlap, his foul-mouthed, much younger counterpart. What is truly brilliant about this series is how the characters consistently undermine the media narrative of a homogenous political conservatism. Jackie regularly espouses the goodness of the Bible but loves his sippin’ whiskey and rarely makes it to church on account of needing to open up the store, and though he’s Christian, he doesn’t care so much about other people’s lifestyle choices so long as he doesn’t have to deal with them himself. Dunlap, by contrast, completely eschews any idea of a work ethic, lives with (and off) his grandmother, and is constantly trying to get drunk/laid/high. “Why do these people hang out together so often that they end up doing this podcast?” Because they are united by their hatred of Obama, Democrats, and a world they see as somehow threatening their freedoms. What makes this series absolutely hilarious is how both of these characters struggle to square their own knee-jerk, anti-liberal reactions with the myriad ways in which they fall short of any consistent conservative worldview. Jackie and Dunlap have their own personal (and completely opposite) definitions of freedom, and they would in no way be united were it not for the imaginary specter of evil socialist Democrats out there.
Moreover, you folks from outside the South who may think that this podcast is an offensive parody of Southern culture—shut up. These guys hit it squarely on the head. If this doesn’t sound to you like the sort of thing Southerners say around the water cooler, it’s because only kakhi-wearing Yankee transplants talk around a water cooler. Get yourself to the nearest barbershop—not salon, but barbershop—and take a listen. These guys know the culture the way only someone from here can. Not only is this podcast so hilarious that I’ve had to pull over while driving because I was laughing so hard (as with their take on Conway Twitty’s Christmas album), but it feels like home. If these guys actually do quit after 100 episodes, we’ll miss them dearly.

Not sure why these guys are not somewhere on television. They are extremely funny with great and spot on chemistry. I've been following these guys since they were making videos years ago.

Fantastic
This podcast is incredible, and I always look forward to Jackie and Dunlap's take on the day's events, as well as updates from the good folks of Murfreesboro. I really hope they reconsider stopping at 100 episodes, this podcast is one of the highlights of my week.

Excellent
Truly hilarious. As good as the videos were, the guys have found their groove with these podcasts. The extra time allows them to take the urgency out of their performance and slow things down to a cadence that just sounds more southern and is therefore funnier. For those of you from the South, just give it a listen and it will remind you of the little things that make home funny in the most ridiculous manner possible.
