This week, I sat down with my 25 year old (yes single), brother, Ethan Smyth, while at our grandparents house in Northern Ireland. We did a podcast together back in October, when he came to visit me in Colorado. Since then, he’s quit his job, sold all of his belongings, and set off to travel the world. 7 months in, he’s a changed man. Okay not really, he’s still equaparts boy genius and shit head- BUT, he’s traveled more in the last half a year, than some people travel in their entire lives. Visiting exotic places like Korea, Cambodia, Australia, and islands in Thailand I can’t begin to pronounce. Ethan walks us through his travels thus far; why Vietnam is a must-see, how he ended up with two random thigh tattoos, what it’s like to run with the bulls in Paloma, and why he owes an Aussie RV company a lot of money. What began as a small side hustle, was made into an official business and full-time job in 2021, and Alco was born. Alco was created to fill a gap Megan found in the market. Affordable, unique pieces that are truly water resistant. A water baby to her core, she found herself continuously frustrated with rings turning her fingers green after being worn in the water. Clearly, she was not alone in that want, as her shop has skyrocketed since launching. In just 3 years, from making jewelry herself in her bedroom, she now has an office space, a renovated VW van, many employees, and dream clients. Megan shares her secrets to success, mistakes she’s made, and what she learned from them, hiring and managing employees, staying unique, and utilizing social media and in-person markets to grow. We relate to the many woes of being a 28-year-old business owner, and the ways she’s attempting to work through those hardships. In this week's episode, we welcome Macey Boyd to the podcast. Macey Boyd is a health and fitness coach, CEO, content creator, and personal trainer. She was my personal trainer back in 2018, which is how we met! Although I’ve known her for years, these conversations took us both far deeper, and I so enjoyed getting to know Macey on a profound level. We discussed disordered eating behaviors, the negative mental health connotations with the fitness industry, and how it can improve your life. We’ve both struggled with body image, food, and binge drinking. Macey opened up about much of her personal life;  the highs and very low lows she experienced, in order to get to the balanced, healthy, happy life she leads today. She also shares fitness tips, myths, and things to focus on in your own health journey. We talk a lot about pregnancy too, as Macey is moving through her first pregnancy! We talked at great length about her experiences thus far, habits she’s instilled, body image woes, self-confidence shifts, and hormonal changes that people don’t talk about, and how she hopes to fill the gap she sees for pregnant women in the health and wellness space.
