What a great podcast!
An illuminating podcast and antidote to hustle culture, to valuing ourselves as only as good as the next Thing we Do or Make. Thanks to both of you — looking forward to more.

Valuable listen
I looked forward to each weekly release of this podcast. Lessons in moving forward. I’m not sure I like the word “quit,” but I understand what they are saying about normalizing leaving behind what no longer suits you. Please bring season 2!

Poor interviewing skills
Just listened to Liz Gilbert episodes. She’s a great guest everywhere she goes. The interviewing was lacking. Unformed questions and hosts talking too much, too loudly about themselves. At one point, Holly interrupts Liz Gilbert to say something that isn’t much of anything. Liz patiently brings it back around and finishes her thought. Gracious. In general what I took away from this episodes was lessons in patience from Liz.

Awesome work!
Thank you for putting out this body of work. I can’t tell you how much I needed it and how seen and heard I felt through your words and interviews.

Insightful healing powerful genuine <lady Gaga gif>
TBC I definitely don’t know HOW exactly to reckon with my own relationship to linear time, productivity, goals, ambition, hustle culture, burnout, externally and internally imposed ideas around purpose, success and power, the physiologically gnarly after-effects of intense overwork, basically the ever-unfurling violent disaster of racialized capitalism in this moment, and if/how to function under it with integrity… but for a podcast about quitting, this is an excellent place to start ❤️The hosts bring authenticity, love and humor to these episodes, their guests are brilliant, no one pretends to have all the answers. A+

Loving it
It’s the podcast I didn’t know I needed. Loving the humanness in every story, especially those folks I looked up to (Liz Gilbert + Martha Beck)

A good show!
I really enjoyed binging this podcast during a very long airport delay. Honestly, I was cracking up when Holly was talking about wanting Mandy Patinkin to manage her dating life. LOL. Some episodes are better than others. I love the Liz Gilbert and the white feminism episode. I think the Africa Brooks episode glosses over some of the nuances of black oppression. In the Sara Clark episode, I felt like they were asking very leading questions, making assumptions about her experience instead of asking open-ended questions. It's imperfect but worth a listen for sure as they are very smart and funny.

My 2 Cents!!!!!
First podcast review
Long time listener, first time ever reviewing a podcast. I feel so called to say that oh Holly, I have missed your guidance and vulnerability so much. This podcast is wonderful. Listening to the Liz Gilbert episode and hearing you share about purposeless something hit me. Your purpose is this gift you give us to just be Holly in front of all of us. When it’s high flying or messy and funny and hard. You are so excellent at being Holly. If you weren’t, I would not be hitting 2 years of sobriety in August. I’m so grateful to hear your voice again.

Thank you for normalizing quitting and not having to have a plan!
I’m so thankful to have come across this podcast. Post being in PHP and IOP in the fall/winter, this podcast has helped me continue to sort things in my brain, continue to “meet my darkness” (as Africa Brooke said in her episode), given me new things to think about (and not have to make a decision about!), helped me discuss things in therapy, and be okay with knowing if this is what my life is going to be like, that I want to do it growing into me. The liminal space is one of the phrases that I think about frequently. Good stuff. Thank you.

Love this podcast
I’ve “quitted” several things in the last few months. Holly & Emily are brilliant & I've learned so much from them. The idea of this podcast is genius. It’s just fabulous!

Thank you.
For your bravery, vulnerability, and authenticity in this work. I have found this podcast (and Quit Like a Woman, thanks Holly) to be hugely helpful in my recovery and continued development. Many thanks, and all the gratitude 🙏❤️🏵

Authentic Conversations.
Great podcasts with hosts willing to share openly and vulnerably about their lives experiences. The guests are great and offer heart and wisdom. Thank you!

Someone please mute Holly
I listened to the episode with Koa Beck and thoroughly enjoyed Koa’s smart and insightful commentary, peppered with relevant personal anecdotes. The way Holly guided (hijacked?) the conversation was cringey and honestly very annoying. Her questions were long-winded and sounded whiney, but luckily Koa had the strategic bandwidth to break the nonsense down into digestible pieces and refocus the conversation. I don’t think listeners want Holly to use the podcast recordings as her personal therapy time for self-serving word vomit.

Refreshing and authentic
The humor and humility on this podcast hits just the right note. Anyone recalibrating life and identity on a big and/or small scale will find these conversations a valuable reality check.

Love this pod
So happy to be able to hear Holly’s voice on a podcast again. One of my favorite people in the world. I love the topic and the people the girls bring on. It’s Inspiring to hear about people who take a leap of faith and leave something that’s no longer serving them. Keep bringing out the eps!

Finally! Shining the light on the unspeakable
I quit in 2014. I quit drinking, quit my job, left my partner, house, dog - everything I loved. I walked away to save myself. It felt selfish, immature, illogical. I spent 6 years in this “liminal” space until 2020 when the rest of the world caught up. I sat back and watched as others began to discuss what it was like to lose their grounding. Thank you for not waiting until you are on the other side and declaring victory. What happens when the other side doesn’t come easily or quickly? How do we keep sitting with it? There have been great gifts that I would not change for anything AND I still wake up every day and wish I could go back. Keep producing the work. It is making a difference - thank you.

Thank you
After years of denial and struggling to face the fact that my “perfect” career was killing me, I finally quit in early 2020, giving up all that I’d built. It felt like jumping off a cliff. Since then it hasn’t been easy to explain myself, to live in the liminal space. But it feels so good to have let go of my prior concept of “success.” So far I’ve listened to six episodes and it would be impossible to list all of the ways this podcast resonates. I feel so validated and so much less alone. Thank you for putting these topics out there. We need to talk about this more!

A safe place
Lovely and provocative conversations about things that we don’t speak out loud, but should. Thanks for giving me permission and a reminder to exist in the in-between.

Pearls of wisdom abound
After listening to back-to-back-to-back Martha Beck and Zach Anderson episodes my brain, my compassion and my love for humans is exploding. What rich and meaningful conversations to eavesdrop into. I love everything about Martha’s wisdom and humor. Seeing her as a guest is what drew me into your podcast!! Then Zach’s raw and real story both broke my heart and gave me faith in the strength of our humanity to forge our own path and be integrated into our true self. Many pearls of wisdom here!! Zach, you should write that book! I would read it in a hot second… your story is a window (maybe even a sliding glass door) into a life experience different from my own. But it let’s me understand others better. I find it so compelling and full of rich self-understanding. But I think it can also serve as a mirror for so many who may not have the courage yet to step forward on their own, but see their own story reflected in yours…. And know they are not alone. Thank you, Emily and Holly, for this gift!

ugh, so close
such a great topic from such a limited point of view. i wish it could expand to people who don’t have such voluminous support networks of clout, money and cv’s. it’s comforting to know extremely wealthy and privileged women also face the terrifying void of human existence, but it doesn’t seem so gutsy when you look at how much these people have to fall back on. please bring some working class flavor to these conversations. don’t goop us!!

Teachers need this podcast!
I’m year 15 in the public schools and loving how this podcast is so supportive of my many aspects of life I’m working on quitting. To me, it’s like “claiming my space”. This podcast is forward thinking, human centered. Love.

Quitting for yourself feels so good
As a mental health counselor, I would like to encourage any one who feels overwhelmed by the pressures of society, shoulds, have tos and other people's expectations to listen to thoughtful people talk about quitting on purpose. Far from escaping or avoidant behavior, the folks on this pod know themselves and see what isn't working. Instead of staying in positions where they feel disengaged, trapped or responsible for the wellbeing of others first, these stories are full of depth and insight into how we've been compromised through conditioning to compete with one another and make grind culture work. What I can say as a counselor is that burnout and depression are real and can also be systemic. What a refreshing change to hear people awaken to their own voices and to make conscious decisions against the status quo. Well done, Holly and Emily and guests 👏👏

Please center more marginalized identities
I loved Holly’s book. It helped me embrace sobriety and analyze my own relationship with alcohol. I do love the conversations and guests and hosts have good insight, however it’s just more and more individuals speaking from positions of extreme privilege. Only two episodes I have heard thus far have interviewed people that touched on experiences of POC or people who are poor and how the systems in place affect us. It would be great to quit jobs and lives, but the systems we have in place keep the working poor from being able to do that-and we need to hear more of how we collectively quit this system that keeps us all oppressed. I would love to see marginalized identities who are not worth millions or authoring books, deciding to quit companies with lucrative jobs and cushiony parachutes centered in conversations. I would love to hear from activists dismantling oppressive systems and how we as real world individuals help quit that. I know this is a new podcast, but I really hope that’s coming because if not it’s just more tone-deaf white noise that we have heard over and over again.

Just wonderful
I’m in a transitional period in my life where I’ve been contemplating quitting many things. This podcast has given me some perspective on my quandaries, and I really appreciate every episode I’ve listened to. There have been some brilliant guests and the hosts ask great questions that spawn some amazing conversations. It’s been extremely helpful for me. Thanks Holly and Emily!

Art of quitting
I love this podcast, as I’m fascinated by (and trying to embrace) the spiritual art of quitting things that don’t serve me. I love the discussions on why quitting is viewed so negatively, and how it affects a person to quit something so central to their core identity for much of their life.

Timely
As a difficult school year draws to a close and contracts are being issued… finding this podcast has been of immense value. I’ve binge listened and feel myself slowing down for considerations which are outside of obligation, performance or financial security. Much gratitude for the articulated, granular sorting inside Quitted among hosts and guests.

interesting topic but
I find it odd that Holly wants you to donate money to her podcast while also talking about her wonderful trips and living in Italy while complaining about the sad state of the world. She has no spouse, kids, (or I guess employment?) and wonders why she feels so unfulfilled. The short answer is: she has no responsibilities and too much free time to think. It’s cool to quit a job or person you hate or isn’t right, but to wallow up in self-pity makes her even keel with that person you avoid at the party because they’ll just start complaining about everything, every time you see them.

Too much talking over the guest and each other
I listened to Elizabeth Gilbert on Quitted, I always love to hear what she has to say, but she was frequently spoken over and interrupted by the hosts, talking about themselves. There also seemed to be frequent unnecessary cursing from the hosts. I’m not adverse to swearing, but it was too much.

Great content
Really enjoy the content in this podcast. Can be frustrating, at times, however when a great question is asked of the guest, but rather than asking the question and letting him or her answer, the host tends to elaborate for several minutes about the question, either Sharing her own answer to the question or repeating it in different ways. Having followed Holly for a while, much of what she shares is redundant so it would be nice if she would allow the guest more time to answer.

Are you tired?
Does your body hurt? Do you feel like you are putting all your time and energy and essence into a job, or relationships, or behaviors that leave you feeling all blerg-y? You might enjoy this show. The hosts have conversations with people who haven’t just quit the things we all know we should quit, but have quit the things that seem like the things we’re all working toward. It has helped me think through some things, it has allowed me to ponder why I’m on the hamster wheel and whether I want to stay on it— and their energy and vibe is good as well.

The podcast I didn’t know I needed
After spending the last few (emphasis on the last 2) years labeling(and being labeled) as “just burnt out”, “unambitious”, and “lost” I found Quitted and am immediately thought “oh my word. It isn’t just me?!?!?” Thank you Emily & Holly for producing and putting out these important conversations; they’re providing a much needed space & resource for those of us who have felt like we’re “just not doing it right.”

I didn’t realize I needed to quit things
Until I started listening to this show, I didn’t realize I sorry needed to quit many things in my life. This show made me feel validated in all the things I was struggling with in my life. After listening to just the first episode, I felt empowered to make some much needed changes in my life and am on my way to building a life that actually works for me. This podcast is amazing and I recommend it to all of my friends. Every episode feels more and more validating.

Quit Reading This and Listen
Finding simple human connection with someone who is different than you in almost every way is refreshing, surprising and affirming. And to discover that experience within a topic we’ve all been trained to avoid and feel shame about, makes the moment even more powerful. Thank you, Emily and Holly, for helping more of us find the awareness and words and courage to reassess—to stop doing what is not healthy for us and find a better way.

Like listening to two friends
I’m a fan of anything Holly Whitaker and it’s been nice getting to know Emily McDonnell in the episodes. This show is a casual, light-hearted, easy listen on extremely important and complex issues around the subject of quitting, which seem simple on the surface…but kind of blow your mind.

Quitted is what everyone needs!
I was stoked when I found out that Holly was beginning a new podcast. The content that Emily and Holly share every week, highlighting the stories of people quitting many different forms of quitting. I have never had a podcast that I have taken written notes and quotes from every.single.week. The discussions that take place make me think - make me understand myself. So solid. Thank you for putting yourselves and this work out into the world!

Quitting can be hard and not always a failure. I love this podcast and I appreciate every episode. Thanks ladies

Such an important message
This podcast came to me precisely when I needed it. The podcast has become a weekly reminder that our inherent worth is not tied to our achievements or how productive we are. I look forward to continue listening and learning more.

I quitted 6yrs ago… so appreciate this dialog!
I love this podcast… you can tell holly and Emily have been ‘doing the work’ and are up for questioning pretty much everything about work, purpose, societal norms, etc. their candid intros are fun and their interviews are deep and passionate and I find myself thinking of at least one friend after every episode who I need to forward it to bc I know they’d love it. Start with Liz Gilbert episodes. Purpose anxiety. The ladder story. So. Good. Thank you ladies for bringing your voices together for this podcast, for being committed to doing it in a way that feels like it was actually fun and challenging (and not freaking such ‘hard work’ bc I’m so tired of people deciding something is only worth a rating or listeners or love if you prove that it was hard), and for covering such amazing topics and bringing such awesome people into my awareness.

Great for anyone who needs reminders to slow down
I’m running a business a love and have no intentions of quitting anything and I love this podcast. It gives me the reminders I need to slow down, disconnect from hustle culture, and untie my worth from achievement and busyness. The four different guests so far given really different perspectives on quitting and I learned something from all of them. Elizabeth Gilbert and Aki Ito have been my favorites so far. There were times during the podcasts where Emily and Holly shared their stories where I wanted it to be more clear and concise, and then I realized it doesn’t work that way because the space between isn’t clear and concise! Highly recommend Quitted!

Holly. Stop interrupting. Please.
Great concept. Great guests. Interesting topics. And yes, Holly, we all get that you know absolutely every, every, everything about every, every, everything. You never stop telling us, speaking so breathlessly fast so that no one can possibly get a word in edgewise. PLEASE stop interrupting. Acknowledging that you do it is not enough. You actually have to learn to share. The most annoying thing is that Holly IS actually very smart and very interesting, and she detracts from her own message by exploding all over the mic. And Emily is probably interesting. I wonder if we’ll ever get the chance to find out.

The hard stuff we don’t talk about
Emily and Holly dive in subjects we don’t discuss enough in our society like failure, loss and walking away from what hurts us. I find their take on the hard stuff thought provoking and inspiring.
