Amazing faithful podcast for a variety of faiths
I’m a queer catholic teen that has always been in very queerphobic, religious communities. I find my group within it but it’s hard. This podcast has helped a lot with my confidence in my identity, especially from a faithful standpoint. I’m even going to use this for my Bible study I have with my friends as a way to help us accept ourselves as a community, making the weight lighter with more hands.

Good in concept
I wanted to love this podcast so much. The idea is great and when I found it, I thought this was exactly what I needed as someone trying to figure out my spiritual identity, listening to people approaching theology from a queer-centric lens. But the problem is that so many of the episodes barely start to get into the topic at hand before they then go “for the rest, sign up for X or Y class!” It’s like, to get the full message, you have to pay money. And look, I get it—times are hard and everyone deserves to be paid for their labor. And there are things a class can do that a podcast can’t. I get it. But then I imagine the idea of Jesus hiding teachings behind a paywall and it really skeeves me out. And as someone who just doesn’t have the resources at the moment to spend money on this, it makes the whole thing feel inaccessible to me (or at least like a big tease). So my journey continues. I’m sorry to the hosts but I believe in radical honesty and this is honestly how listening to the podcast often makes me feel, like it’s not for me unless I have money.

A Lovely Worthwhile Program
For queer people of faith, life can be super alienating. These guys have done a brilliant job to help us find space to exist on the planet. We are loved. There is a way. Don’t believe the hate !!!

Hmmm…What can I say?
I think there are better queer Christian podcasts and resources out there, however, I would be remiss in denying how much these two men have contributed to offering resources to the LGBTQIA community. The problem for me is that they emailed me incessantly always asking for money or promoting some bible study or course they wanted a ridiculous amount of money for and when I emailed them to explain that I cannot afford these prices and that they should consider that most of their listeners prob can’t afford them either and they should rethink their prices…in turn I got a nasty, snarky email back basically saying they have to charge that much to support themselves. Fine. Not for me. But then I got personal emails from Shay asking me to take part in a bible study and then was told to sign up through a link where I saw you had to pay $150. Again, I declined and told Shay this was too much money. Finally after receiving more emails soliciting money for courses and bible studies, which I believe bible studies should be for free — I just told them I have had it with them, they are money hungry narcissists, looking to grift off people and they decided to block me. I find them to be immature and def overcharge for resources and in the end if you disagree with Brian, he gets really nasty and spiteful. So…I’d say find another podcast.

This is an abomination
I’m beyond disgusted that my Catholic Church promoted this podcast. The LGBTQ community is an abomination and there should be no place for gay theologians in the Church. To have these people mislead others is horrendous. This is definitely proof of the devil is sheep’s clothing.

Amazing Podcast
I discovered this podcast a while ago while coming to terms with my identities and faith. Brian and Fr. Kearns along with some of there guests have pulled me out of some dark places and helped me learn to love and truly accept myself.

Great resource for faith and sexuality
An excellent podcast for those interested in integrating their Christian faith with their sexuality or gender. Wish it had been around when I was really struggling to figure out how my faith and queerness could coexist, much less enhance each other.
Queer Christian
Unbiblical
The Bible says multiple times that man and a man and a woman and a woman is an abomination and a sin in Gods eyes. To make this okay as well as letting young Christian’s think that it is ok also makes you sin in front of God. Matthew 18:6, Leviticus 20:13, 18:22, 1 Corinthians 6:9, and Romans 1:26-27. yes God loves you but he doesn’t love your sin. There is no where in the Bible says that it is ok. Actually we encounter quite the opposite. Luckily our Lord God is merciful and he forgives us our transgressions.

Great podcast on the Bible
I’m straight, cisgender graduate of an evangelical seminary and find this podcast a breath of fresh air after choosing to leave evangelicalism. This is one of the few Bible podcasts (that’s not for an academic audience) that I can listen to without shame and feeling that God still loves me.

Well worth listening to even if you aren’t from an affirming tradition
I don’t come from a tradition that is affirming but for Pride month I wanted to learn more about the queer experience of Christians and subscribed. I’m so glad I did! Lots to consider in these thoughtful conversations.

Affirming, thought provoking, entertaining
It has been so life giving to know that queerness and Christianity can not only co exist, but also enrich one another. You don’t have to choose between your identity and your faith. Thank you for this podcast!

Great episode May 8, Dr. Amy Levine
This interview was AMAZING! So grateful for her work and passion in teaching Old and New Testament to Christians as a Jewish scholar. I’ll be listening to it again. Wonderful kick off to the month of May interviews with Jewish scholars.

This episode was eye-opening and informative. The Jewish perspective on the New Testament is a new and intriguing idea for me. Thank you, Dr. Levine and Queer Theology!

Personal engagement with scripture and historic church
Each person engages scripture and history from within a community, even if they think they’re doing it alone or without interpretation. This podcast is an exercise of spiritual disciple of applying scripture, traditions, and reason faithfully to our everyday lives and analysis of our present selves.

Queer Christian
I have been listening to this podcast for a while now and I’m so glad I found it! It can be hard wrestling with being queer and wanting to align with being who God wants me to be and following the teaching of Jesus. Through this podcast I have found many resources and learned a lot about context and theology and history of the scriptures. It has made me more confident and comfortable talking about who I am with others who might not agree! I’m proud to be LGBTQ and proud to be Christian.

Comfortable, thoughtful, and understandably amazing!
Listening to you two while I work is very common for me. It gives me something to think about while I’m working to pass time by, but in a very fun way! These two cover such high concerned topics while talking about Christianity and how all can be religious, and in their own ways!

Thank you!!!!
I am so grateful for Brian and Shay and this podcast. I have spent over 30 years deconstructing my faith and toxic theology. What a breath of fresh air to know that I landed in a place where others are as well. All are welcome, all are loved, all are beautiful children of creator. Listen without fear, love and affirmation are beautiful things!

Lovely people loving others…
I’m grateful for Brian and Shay. Sometimes it’s felt like I’m just holding on by a thread; they’ve often been that thread. Life can be cruel, and they will climb down into the pit and sit with you. Keep up the good work. 🙂

Distortion of Truth
Unfortunately, as others have noted, contorting the Scriptures to fit your chosen lifestyle are an exact fulfillment of the Apostle Paul’s prophecy: “For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.” 2 Timothy 4:3

Not defined by sin
We as believers in Christ are not defined by our sin. That is the very nature of redemption in Christ.
I’d strongly encourage the hosts and anyone following them to meditate on 2 Timothy 4:2-4.

Swearing & Encouraging Apostasy?
In the episode “What is our salvation?” One of the podcasters used the “s” word and then in the same breath encouraged apostasy from the faith? What is this? What ever happened to apart from Christ ye can do nothing? What ever happened to coming to the Father ONLY through “me” — the Christ? My entire life has been a long battle between the religion and relationship, and this podcast is yet another source of evidence for me that queer people of faith have a looooooong way to go when it comes to how deeply they relate to scripture and the authority of the Spirit moving through scripture. We are free and liberated, but I absolutely feel like the language and the mere thought of leading someone AWAY from being a member of the BODY of CHRIST and kingdom of God as a SPIRITUAL experience is VERY dangerous.

With gratitude
So, so grateful for the @queertheology community, and the social justice lens @shannontlkearns and @thisisbgm meet the Bible with. It’s a gospel full of good news, and hope in troubled times. Most importantly, their interpretations of biblical text not only leave any one out, but preach the belief that we are all in this together. They’ve helped me find a God I can believe in.

Poor Theology
Poor Theology. Period. The Bible is infallible, that’s a core doctrine of Christian belief, but this podcast openly denies that and grossly misinterprets scripture. Jesus wants a relationship with anyone, but he doesn’t want one this podcast promotes. I beg you to find a good Christian pastor that doesn’t tell you what you want to hear, but tells you the Truth. God bless

So Refreshing!
As a lifelong Christian but baby queer, it’s incredibly refreshing to hear deeply faithful people talking about God from a queer perspective. It has really helped me as I grapple with reconciling my sexuality with my conservative upbringing/faith. I love this and love all the content on their website as well.

Very inspiring!
I love the Queer Theology podcast! It’s very real, very inspiring and very affirming of queer and trans Christians.

Questionable Theology
I’ve listened to a few episodes, spread throughout the timeframe in which this show has aired, and I cannot strongly enough urge people to run from this. Wherever you land on LGBT issues, Christians ought to reject biblical interpretation that makes every scripture into a metaphor for or an allusion to your own life. The Bible is for us, but not about us—it is about Jesus (Matthew 5:17; Luke 24:26-27; John 5:39, 45-47).
Think of someone like Steven Furtick—who makes every biblical text into a metaphor about you reaching your potential—as an LGBT activist. Now every verse is about the struggle for equality. That is not how exegesis works.
But the worst is the hosts’ view of Christ. They clearly do not think of Him as God, as sinless, or as interested in saving us from sin. The most recent evidence of this (as of this writing) is their episode from 9/3/18 on Mark 7. There was a statement made about Jesus in that episode that was so brazen, so blasphemous, that I cannot type it, and certainly could not finish listening. You CANNOT be a Christian and say something like that.
Again: RUN.

More than a lectionary
This podcast is a freakin breath of fresh air. Brian & Shay's analysis of scripture is thought-provoking and life-giving. One of my favorite theological quotes ever is from this podcast: "if the Bible isn't good news to queer people, it's not good news." 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Give it a listen. You won't regret it!

Sparklets for the soul
Fr. Shay and Brian do a fantastic job of extracting new and thoughtful and affirming perspectives from the readings. Definitely recommend.

A dose of resilience
It's tough to square the anti-LGBT messages I heard as a kid in church with what I know today about Christianity. This podcast is a balm to me while I navigate ways to re-discover my faith. It's short enough to listen to on my commute and it always leaves me more hopeful than I started. Give it a listen!

A joyful conversation
What a joy it is to hear two thoughtful, passionate and genuine speakers reflect on their faith and struggles of the path. Succinct but still thought provoking. Thank you Fr. Shay and Brian for this beautiful gift you have offered the world.

Nothing else like this! LGBTQ-affirming Bible study.
I found this podcast at a time when I felt I had no space in which to be both LGBTQ-identified and Christian. Brian & Shay's take on the weekly lectionaries allowed me to grow past those assumptions & find a place where both of these parts of me can thrive. Great for anyone, LGBTQ or not, who enjoys interrogating the Bible.

Never plays
I like the podcast, but recently episodes won't play or download. This is the only podcast I have trouble with 😰. I'm super frustrated. I liked it when I could hear it.

New queer look on scripture
Queer Theology offers a fresh and a refreshing new approach to reading scripture.
It challenges me to take a new look at texts that otherwise I would have written off. I love hearing Brian and Rev Shay share their stories. They offer a perspective more applicable for me today.

Good News!
I love the Queer Theology podcast and I look forward to it every week. Sometimes, I really need to hear some good news, and frequently this podcast has some really good news for (and from) queer people. I'm grateful that Shay and Brian tackle hard passages and the bad theology that clings to them. Keep up the good work!

This podcast has a wonderful way of confirming some contrary ideas I already hold as well as challenging me in others. I’m grateful to Father Shannon and Brian for their leadership on these scriptures. I love to think about the readings and discussion throughout the week.
