My favorite podcast
I work in a stressful healthcare job, and I listen to Pure Cinema on my commutes, and also while I'm working. I am a horror junkie, have been since I was very young. Found that while I enjoy horror (all the different sub-genres too), I was limiting myself to horror almost exclusively for the past few years. When I started listening to the podcast, I became interested in everything. I never really cared about film noir, pre code, dramas, westerns - but now I'm finding that not only am I interested in them, I'm buying so many more blu rays and 4ks of all types of movies now. Its so much fun hearing Elric and Brian talking about these movies and wanting to hunt these down to watch. All the guests on the show are great and I can't stop listening. Will be a Patreon supporter soon, they deserve it. I also live in NJ so it's difficult sometimes hearing all the cool stuff happening at the New Bev and the Vista theater. I want to visit LA for the theaters alone. I recommend this show to all my horror loving friends so they can discover these films that need to be seen. For some it's a hard sell because they listen to horror podcasts exclusively - but I know they will listen and find that there's a whole other world of cinema out there to enjoy. Thank You!!!!

One of the great podcasts about cinemA
I’ve listened to these guys for years. Every show puts a dozen movies on my watchlist. Hope they never stop.

My go to for obscure movies. Their selections are pure gold.

Overall...awesome!
Update: it would be fantastic if Elric stopped giving a synopsis of what happens in a movie before the New Bev shows it. Be more general, man. We don’t need to know the twists and turns that surprised you (ie Sparkler). 3.5 stars. I really enjoy this pod and have found some fun movies because of it. That feeling of discovering something new you like them finding more movies from there is wonderful. The guests are great but my only complaint is that Elric talks a lot. Like a lot. I much prefer Brian’s approach of asking a question and letting the guest speak abs engage with them. Not just talk. If it’s the two of them talking, no problem but it gets to me after awhile otherwise.

Indian Runner Based on Bruce Springsteen Song
The characters and general story come from the Bruce Springsteen song Highway Patrolman of his 1982 masterpiece Nebraska. There is also the title track which tells the story of Charles Starkweather Which inspired Badlands. Springsteen also has a song called Badlands. Anyways love the show.

Inconsistent Politics undermine discussion
The hosts go out of their way to warn the listeners of the dastardly politics of John Wayne and James Woods but rarely extend that concern towards any number of far left extremists in Hollywood past and present. Younger listeners would do well to remember that the most left leaning actors in the 1980s would be to the right of Trump in terms of their stated views at the time. Judge history with great care gentlemen.

Interesting, but….
The show is easy to listen to, and the hosts are smart. However, the Tarantino episodes are so badly mic’ed that it is unlistenable.

Good, once great.
The over indulgence in Tarantino worship has caused this once very unique cinema podcast to lose it’s vision and voice. And the constant shilling for the New Bev (owned by QT) come on guys, not all of us live in LA. (That said- Tarantino was better here than on his own podcast) Get back to “five just cause”

Enough with the prequel explanations
Enough with the prequel explanations - let's hear the content. Ok Black Heart, White Hunter directed by Clint Eastwood written by James Brdges. Good! I like it! (Once the explanations and disclaimers are over. Interesting the modesty is something women are always told not to show when they present something.

Can’t get enough
Pure cinema pod is my favorite and it’s not even close

Pure Film Love
This was exactly the podcast I was looking for. Two great hosts - smart but not sarcastic, knowledgeable but not know-it-alls, passionate but not pedantic - who share their of film and offer enough film recommendations to last a lifetime.

One of the better shows out there
Those hosts really know their stuff. A bit too much Tarantino lately but that’s only because the sound of his voice irks me - more of a personal thing. But I like it when Brian and Elric invite others to talk about their love of film. Infectious!

Excellent
Passionate, earnest, and fun. Love this podcast. Never miss an episode.

Great series.
Love hearing the rare and unseen films discussed. I always love discovering new and hidden gems to queue on my list. Thank you to the hosts for such a wonderful show. Please keep up the work for us cinephile film lovers.

My online movie buddies
There are a lot of podcasts where a couple of people talk movies. And they talk about Notorious, and it turns out one of them has never seen Notorious, so they watch it and talk about what a great discovery it was to finally see. Well, I’ve seen Notorious like 18 times, so I’m happy for young people discovering it, but I don’t need somebody saying I should see Notorious. Look at my house, is there a sign on it that says “Guy Who Isn’t Sure If He Should See Notorious Lives Here?” This podcast is great because it’s two down to earth guys who love movies, often digging into stuff that’s obscure enough for ME to find something new. And sometimes that’s with the help of a third guy you may have heard of named Tarantino (he’s sort of their boss at the New Beverly in LA). But even if the famous guy is not on it, this is a great podcast that loves movies and dives deep into topics like Italian crime movies (where has Confessions of a Police Captain been all my life?) or public domain movies, leaving you plenty of genuine finds so you don’t have to watch Hitchcock movies for the 19th time when there are giallos waiting for you.

Best Film Podcast!
The most wide-ranging discussions of films from pure movie lovers, courtesy of Tarantino’s New Beverly Cinema in L.A. From the bottom-of-the-barrel cult trash to Bergman and Bresson. The only movie podcast whose Patreon is worth the extra content. I don’t even mind that the hosts—80s kids both—have a fixation on some lousy titles from their movie-going youth, or that they continually mispronounce “giallo” (correct: “JA-lo”) and Godard (last D should be silent). They’ve earned their five stars for digging up the deepest of the deep cuts and articulating why they’re so good.

Great episode! As usual 🙂
Wonderful episode, as always. Y’all’s enthusiasm and positive energy is what keeps me coming back (and all the sweet deep cuts of course). Great to hear Rebekah on this episode too. Love these pics. The Orca score is soooo good! I hate to say animal attack movies have gotten harder to watch as I get older. The animal lover in me can’t stand seeing all the animal captives being frightened for our entertainment. Animals are like children and they’re innocent and some even look to us for protection. Most old westerns have even become hard to watch because of all the poor horses with their teeth constantly yanked, their feet nailed, their sides repeatedly stabbed and kicked with spurs, and not to mention all the horse-tripping in old westerns, after which they’d often kill the horses for their broken legs. ANYWAYS, sorry for any negativity/venting. I know, I know, I’m an overly sensitive hippie. Mad respect to all of you. I have a weird love for animal films too that goes back to childhood, though my views are complicated now. Love this podcast. It’s my favorite podcast. It’s the BEST podcast! I’m such a fan and I hope y’all never stop! Love Just the Discs (got me buying movies again!) and Colors of the Dark. Awesome shows! Love and light to you all 🤘

Does the Brilliance Never End?
The best way to describe this wonderful show is Home. You feel like you've found your home when you listen to two fantastically witty and insightful hosts discuss at great depths the films you adore as well as cast a light on titles you may have never seen before. Their unique "pairing" approach has highlighted over 30 titles that I personally had never seen, and subsequently had checked out. I also discovered (through Shock Waves and now Pure Cinema) that Elric might possibly be my cinematic doppleganger in many ways, and I've grown to adore Brian's opinions in equal measure. All in all, this is at the very apex of my podcast list and I can't encourage everybody enough to check it out. If you love cinema, you won't find a better gem. Of interest to no one, I wrote this like three years ago and apparently it never posted. So here it is. Also, do their Patreon. Double the amazing content!

One of the Best Movie Podcasts
This is a great podcast if you are looking to find those “hidden gems” buried beneath the slushy avalanche of soulless, big budget hackjobs. This is not to say Brian and Elric are snobs. They are the opposite and never get personal or snide when discussing movies. They are affable dudes and knowledgeable about cinema. You feel like you are just discussing flicks over a few beers(and maybe some whiskey shots) with buddies. They have given me a ton to watch. Their special themed episodes are wonderful. They also have great guests. Still waiting for the Hal Hartley deep dive.

Best Movie Podcast, Hands Down
Pure Cinema is the gold standard of “people talking about movies” podcasts. They talk about a wide range of movies, focusing on “lost” or “forgotten” classics and cult movies. Hosts Brian and Elrich are extremely knowledgeable, but never condescending. Huge movie nerds looking to find a podcast that is funny, informative, clearly-recorded and talks about movies that aren’t coming up on every other movie podcast will love it.

Soooooooo Good!
What can be said? The name of the podcast said it all! Want to update my review by saying thanks for the brilliant work and especially the hangout episodes. They really help take my mind off the current chaos.

Awesome & Aptly Named
Been a listener for years, idk why I’m just rating & reviewing. But with that said, since the beginning of the show, it’s been a top tier podcast. Best hosts. Best personalities and their love of movies is infectious. And knowledgeable? Forget about it - they are super, super, all-knowing about movies (all genres) in every way...in the best way. Show is aptly titled bc it’s a straight, pure injection of cinema every episode and 100% fun 100% of the time!

Head Space Movies
Y’all have a great podcast here. I just listened to the head space movies episode and was excited to hear the Carlos Regyadas shout out for Post Tenebras Lux.Criterion released Japon and did a stream of his movies when Our Time came out last year. Him and Harmony Korine are soldiers for cinema and two of my absolute favorites.

Wonderful show with extensive knowledge and deep cuts. Serves as an education in cinema. I subtracted a ⭐️ for sound quality. How much $$ do you guys need per month to get better equipment? I’m sure we’d pay.

The best
The best place in the internet for movie deep cuts - It doesn’t hurt that the hosts have a great rapport with each other and deep film knowledge without the pretension/snobbery found elsewhere. Love it

Please repeat the title after discussing it
One of the best podcasts for true cinephiles. I wish they would be consistent with repeating the titles after they’re finished discussing them though. Other than that, 10/10

Another truly spectacular podcast for cinephiles!
Along with Director’s Club and The Projection Booth, this is one of the best podcasts about film and filmmaking out there. A lot of cool guests, great suggestions and you get the sense that these two hosts love talking movies. Keep it up gentlemen!!

My Favorite Podcast
I truly love Elric and Brian's appreciation for every director and actor, no matter how big or small.

Enjoyable and Educational
I appreciate Brian Saur but Elric's politically correct pandering is sometimes onerous. Brian's recommendations and insights make this a valuable podcast for fans of cinema.

The Everlasting Gobstopper of Film 101
Their knowledge and passion for the medium is a luxury in this era of information overload. Makes me nostalgic for all things celluloid, especially when it’s a title I have NOT seen or heard about. They get it!

For cinephiles
If you love cinema, you will love this podcast. I’ve listened to every episode, and have watched dozens of movies based on their recommendations. Even if you think you are well-versed in film, you will still learn of some titles that you’ve never heard of. Hands down, this is my favorite podcast.

Interesting
Great podcast. Love the pairings... my only complaint is that the word ‘INTERESTING’ is used literally hundreds of times in some episodes.

For film buffs
This podcast offers a variety of titles you’ve probably never heard of in themed episodes and are essential listening for any film completists. The hosts are respectable, entertaining, and really know their stuff. Congrats on landing Tarantino btw!

DEEEEEP CUTS!
If you area true Cinefile then this is the place for you! Elric and Brian do an amazing job of diving deep into the topic of the day and always bring up a hidden gem or two. Their combined knowledge and expertise of the films they cover is second to none in the podcast world. The only criticism is that you guys need to repeat the names of the films you have choosen throughout the podcast more often and make your final lists easier to find on-line. Keep up the good work. Next up hidden gems from SNL Alumni or Against Type Classics!

Excellent podcast for medium-to-huge film fans
This podcast is perfect for anyone who loves movies, knows a decent bit about movies, and wants to get a bunch of great recommendations in one sitting. These guys are extremely knowledgeable but the conversation always sounds accessible rather than pretentious. Every episode contains tons of titles that you’ve probably never heard of, and the hosts do a great job of letting you know exactly why you should add them to your “to-watch” list.

One of my favorite film oriented podcasts. The hosts are constantly recommending films I’ve not seen or sometimes heard of, and that is what I want. Good stuff, put it in your ears!
