Talented musician and former associate chaplain Rev. Justin Bolger, O.P. is the new chaplain of Providence College, taking the reins from Rev. Peter Martyr, O.P. After six years, the tenure of Rev. Peter Martyr Yungwirth, O.P. as Providence College chaplain has come to an end. Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the archbishop of New York, has appointed him to be the pastor of St. Vincent Ferrer on the Upper West Side, a parish that has been led by Dominicans since 1867. Junielly Vargas '21 took advantage of many opportunities while studying at PC and, as a result, felt at home in several areas of the College. As a psychology major, her coursework inspired her to pursue independent research with faculty mentors. Vargas also majored in public and community service studies and served as a Feinstein Fellow for 360 High School assisting first-generation students like herself with the college search process. Vargas also found her niche within the Organization of Latin-American Students (OLAS).

The marketing major discussed the accommodations that help her do everyday activities, the challenges she faced while starting a career in the entertainment industry, and what's on the horizon for her family.

Deborah Lopez '21, a global studies major and economics minor from Lynn, Mass., was recognized for her service work through PC's Feinstein Community Fellowship for two organizations whose missions she identifies with as a member of an immigrant community and as a first-generation student: College Visions, which helps students with the college application process, and the Alliance to Mobilize Our Resistance, an immigration reform group. Lopez discussed the Feinstein fellowship as well as the opportunities at PC through study abroad and global service-learning courses that allowed her to travel to six different countries: Peru, Chile, and Argentina, as well as Spain, Brazil, and Mexico.
