The FTSE 100 dropped even after banks and the energy groups rallied on hopes they might dodge any further taxes on their profits. The index was back down to around 7,000 in early trading.Shares in Lloyds, NatWest and Barclays all rose following a Sunday Times report that a windfall tax on the banking sector was unlikely. NatWest was the best of the risers as the report said the plan had been ‘quashed’.Elsewhere Elon Musk has denied reports of mass Twitter job cuts following his US$44bn takeover last week. Royal Mail workers have called off strikes scheduled for the next two weeks after the postal company threatened legal action. The CWU said the decision was made to protect its dispute and that industrial action will recommence on 12 November. Biopharma company Scancell has continued its recent run of good news, enrolling its first patient in an expansion of the ModiFY trial that will be looking to a new treatment for several types of cancer.Lifestyle data specialist 4GLOBAL has won a £4mln project over 5 years with a ‘major sporting infrastructure project’ for a city in the Middle East. The contract is one of the largest in its history.And Shield Therapeutics expects iron deficiency product Accrufer/Ferracru to be approved in South Korea next year. The Korean Food and Drug Administration agreed that a single pharmacokinetic study is the only additional requirement.
