Josh and Frankie talkin the Balls off a Rhino
Josh keeps it movin and groovin, Frankie with the surgical tools and Soya has a beer and folds the dirty laundry. There are many nerdy music podcasts out there but none as prolific as Primus Tracks. I saw this years ago and listened to the grapevine pod with Les. I thought well I don’t need to listen to any others. Just going through tracks? Boring right? Well I was soooo wrong. Y’all make every pod interesting. Cheers and have a can of Pork Soda (my least favorite).. I am one of those weirdos that thinks Brown is the best. We are out there! There’s dozens of us! -Tobias Funke in a pair of brown shorts

Count one more for the Punch Bowl
Thanks to Primus Tracks, for creating such a great podcast for Primus fans and music lovers alike. I have been a fan of Primus for many years, but your podcast drew me in much closer in appreciation of their music. I tend to fall in the “audiophile” category of music listeners (maybe unusual among Primus fans, not sure), and as I dug into each album as guided by Josh and Frankie, I found so many well-recorded songs, with engaging textures, in many cases hearing intonation of sounds and instruments that, to put into Frankie’s terms, were “simply mind-blowing.” My favorite recordings are Pork Soda, The Desaturating Seven, and Animals Should Not Try to Act Like People - true gems with such great sounds. I have listened and will continue to listen to every podcast episode that you have made (my dog appreciates this as he benefits from extra long walks while binge-listening episodes). I always have a smile when I think of episodes that featured Josh belting out notes from Eternal Consumption Engine or David Macalaster, Frankie making the case for Team Envelope Filter, or Tim Soya trying to explain some type of “rubber sport short” he discovered to be a staple of Tommy Lee’s go-to stage/drumming wear. A highlight for me was realizing that I was standing just behind Frankie (and probably other Primatrons) at the pre-NYE Fox Theater show and got to introduce myself and express my thanks for all you guys do. I am so glad that the Primus/Claypool flame is still burning brightly after all this time, with so much to look forward to, and I view Primus Tracks as the caretakers and curators that I can depend on to enhance our experience on the journey. - Steve “Back of the Envelope Filter” MacDonald

Semi-wondrous ride over the electric grapevine
Love this deep dive podcast into my favorite band! Josh and Frankie (and the true star Soya!) know their stuff and have amazing guests as well. Every episode is a detailed look at a Primus song with musical and lyrical breakdowns as well as the highly important LIVE HISTORY! Seriously this podcast has felt very validating in my obsession with this band, there’s other freaks who love this music!

Late to the party
Great podcast and great information about the band/world of Primus. Question for Frankie, how do you display all of your signed vinyl? Hopefully I made it into the punch bowl. Keep up the great work!

Great cast guys!!
Primus has such a unique and interesting backstory that you guys cover in spades. Primus has played only one show in 2023. It was a benefit for a friend. It was a great show with members of Tool and QOTSA performing with them. The cover of “Whole lotta Rosie” is the highlight for me. I was hoping you could cover that performance in a future episode. Take care and Happy Holidays!!

Fantastic!
Didn’t think I could love my favorite band of all time more, but the work that Josh Frankie and Soya put in has rekindled and refreshed my love for a band that I have listened to for 30+ years. It’s not just a matter of opinion! This pod rocks! Keep ‘em comin you Golden Boys!

To Josh, Frankie, Soya
Thank you guys for making this podcast. I spent my teenage years obsessed with Primus. So much so I made a pretty nice copy of Les’s 4 String CT maple backup bass my senior year of high school in wood shop back in 08. This podcast reminds me of when me and my friends would sit around and talk about tracks and what we thought they meant, and get crazy high. I was pretty good at figuring out Les’s bass licks to each track. I still have the bass and practice those licks from time to time. Anyways.. the show is amazing. I’m currently binging all the episodes. It’s got me back into the band and got me playing bass again.

Tommy the Cast
Haven’t nerded out about Primus since I was like 2007. Since finding the podcast I’ve been listening to nothing but Primus again. I’ve been playing a small jazz kit most of my years but now I’m using 4 toms & I’m about to buy splashes, bells & all the ding dangs, whistles, bangers & clangers on your average Primus set. This podcast is expensive but it’s great stuff none the less. Wonderful work gentleman PS: Ballad of Buckethead episode?

Frankie and the Proverbial Mind Spread
Josh and Frankie have put together the ultimate podcast for any Primus fan. Soya has been a mainstay on the show and his first hand accounts of the band are impeccable and always entertaining. Josh you are a master of emulating the sounds of Primus with your voice which will be forever engrained into my mind. Frankie is a master of Primus trivia and has more information than any website on the internet. Thanks for everyone’s work on making this the best podcast and most importantly, the most entertaining podcast ever. Charisma all around!!!

Is it Luck?
This podcast is a dream come true! Josh’s lyrical interpretations are genius and Frankie’s Primus knowledge is endless. It is exactly what I needed to nerd out even more on this band I’ve loved for 20 years. Can’t wait to see them live again in April with fresh Primustracks eyes and ears!! This is hands down my favorite podcast of all time. Any other females in the Punch Bowl? 🙋🏻‍♀️ Thank you Josh and Frankie!!!

Perfection is Your Middle Name
Awesome podcast! I've been a massive fan of Primus since '90, and it is such a blast to revist these albums and tunes with such great conversation. I love the guests as well (Soya is the MAN!). Thank you guys for doing this.

Love it
Hey I just wanted to say I’ve been enjoying the podcast. I didn’t think there were bigger primus fans than me in the world but I think you have me beat. I’ve been to every single primus show in Southern California and Austin since 1993 and have a collection of memorabilia that probably angers my wife. It’s great to hear people that share my obsession. I learn something new each episode. Keep doing the lords work - Mike

Primus Tracks Suu…Rocks!!
Thank you so much for this podcast. I binged it in a couple of months, and now the only problem is I only get one show per week. I remember 7th grader me buying my very first cd ever, “sailing the seas of cheese” because I loved “is it luck” and “los bastardos.” The really great thing about Primus is that while I first latched on to them for the funnier songs, they have remained my favorite band through all these years, because the musical brilliance is more appreciated the older I get. Josh, Frankie, and all of their guests make this show a must listen for any fan. I am a more knowledgeable fan now because of it and have am able to enjoy my favorite music at even deeper level. Thank you.

Nachos? Steamyyyy!!!
So there I was, bored during a pandemic, and I decide to type in “Primus” into my podcast app. Lo and behold, an entire podcast dedicated to the celebration and analysis of all things Primus/Claypool/Bay Area music scene. My punchbowl runneth over! Josh and Frankie are such fun and knowledgeable superfans and the addition of local legend Soya really makes this podcast (Tommy) the Cat’s pajamas. The greatest thing since canned pork soda!

Mighty Fine Cadillac.
Currently binge listening through the episodes. This is everything I wanted an exploration of Primus content to be. Superb content. Josh, Frankie, and occasionally Soya are what the Primus world needs to push fandom to the next generation. Can’t wait to visit the Frankie museum if Primus. Also, I went to High School with one of the Travis’ in Alaska…

My Name is Thankful
What started out as nostalgia, has turned into something much more. I started bouncing around to my favorite songs, but then rewound to begin the journey with PrimusTracks. Little snippets into the band’s evolution has brought new life into old jams. Josh and Frankie are such wonderful tour guides filled with their own perspective and devoid of pretentiousness. Thanks for all you do and keep ‘em comin’.

This podcast is great. I don't know how I didn't discover it until now. The only problem I have is, I wish I could be on it to fill in some information. They mentioned wanting to talk to a drummer about the drumming. I am a drummer and three of my favorite drummers were in Primus! Oh well, great listen. A must for any fan.

Yes!
Grab yourself a can of pork soda and get ready to sail the seas of cheese! These tales from the Punchbowl and miscellaneous debris are sure to fry your frizzle. I’ve been a bastard (Primus fan) since the early 90s and listening to these guys have given me a new perspective on the songs I have long loved and a new appreciation for the ones I did not listen too as much. Josh and Frankie are super knowledgeable in their own right and the guests they bring on are an amazing wealth of information. I discovered this podcast when I was looking for an answer about Over the Electric Grapevine and it’s live history (which has become a favorite part of each episode for me). From there I cherry picked a few of my favorite songs but had to go back to the first episode and listen to them all straight threw. It’s gotten to the point where I have to carve out time to listen because I found myself constantly rewinding parts to soak in every detail. This is a must listen for any Primus/Les Claypool fan and also musicians. They way they dissect Herb’s drums or Les’s bass is fascinating and inspiring. I could keep going but I hope you got the point by now. Love the show, keep up the great work! ~Optimus Orange

Must hear show!
I listen regularly, and I’m always learning something new from your in depth research and awesome interviews. I was at a one of a kind show, at Radio City Music Hall, NY 6.22.04 hallucinogenetics tour. The band was really thrilled to be playing at this historic venue. Les was very interactive with the audience, and there was an incredible set list, every song was on fire! Be sure and listen to this recording!! Thanks, and Keep up the HUGE SLABS of primus tracks!

Awesome pod cast, makes the mondays at the office go by smoothly and makes me wanna crank some Primus after each episode . Who cares what the boss thinks!? Rock on guys!

I fux with this podcast tough
Sometimes I like to hear people obsess over music and history instead of trying too hard to be funny or edgy. In other words this podcast is… right up my alley.

Soya is God!
Very clever podcast, creative and entertaining! Josh and Frankie are great hosts, but I thoroughly enjoy Soya and the other behind the scenes folks he ropes in as guests! I love the road stories. He is a man of pure power. -Tommy from UltraSound (yes that one)

It’s about time!
Finally a music pod cast worth listening to. I love listening to people talk so passionately about something I myself am so passionate about. Sooo looking forward to more. Thanks guys!! (Since I was the FIRST 5 star review I wasn’t sure how crazy to get. I would like to re-write my review sometime and make it more Primus themed. Is that allowed? Can I leave a 6 star review? Y’all should have a few shows where you do a drawing and have a few random fans on (not necessarily me) to tell their Primus story and just share the joy this band brings to them. Anyway, just a thought. Kind of hard to improve on perfection. And I love one of the reviewers ideas about getting Carl Thompson if possible?

I….I….I
I am really enjoying the content, structure, and the various personalities. Primus has been my band for 30 years. I have grown up with them. They have always represented what is possible if a group of people are able to totally let each other shine. Every person I have seen on stage playing a Primus show blew me away with their musicianship. They were never too wasted to pull songs off live and the early records still sound amazing. Primus defined originality and creative freedom but felt like craftsmen more than rockstars to me. I’m sending an email as well. I recommend this podcast for folks that love music not just Primus. There’s tons of great stuff here for a person interested in recording, photography, Red Rocks, and touring in general. I think you guys should carefully approach Carl Thompson about coming on. He is a wonderful human, musician, craftsman, and seems genuinely humble. Anyway the man has some serious character from what I have seen. After 30 years of daydreaming I got a six string. It’s simultaneously a thing of beauty and a ferocious beast. Anyway, he is getting up there in age so don’t pull your puds too long. Take care .

Hats Off
Love the podcast. Learning the stories behind the songs, albums, artwork is fantastic. Primus has been my favorite band since the 90’s and I’ve seen them and Les almost every time they come to NY. Since your coming up to the Brown Album, I thought I’d mention I was at the 1st show of the 3D tour in Poughkeepsie, NY. Before Hat’s Off, Les says it’s the first time they ever played that tune. Keep up the fine work gents.

Good stuff Maynard! Love the live history of each track. Love the breakdown of the bass parts. Especially love the breakdown of the drum parts. I’m a guitarist so hearing these drum breakdowns is eye opening. This podcast has reinvigorated my love of this band. Larry Lalonde for world dictator! Soya for vice world dictator. Josh and Frankie deserve an award for podcast excellence. I ain't one for poetry, ain't one for prose Ain't one for the scent of a springtime rose But there is one fact that I do know I sure get a kick out of that there Josh and Frankie show.

Why Do They Do This?
Why do they do this, Josh & Frankie? Every week, podcasts ... Their minds numbed by Mr. C. I’ve got my free time, podcast loaded up, Primus Tracks is the best bet for my commute on a Friday. No dreads about the working day though, funny thing about commuting during a pandemic, the time in the office doesn’t mean quite so much, except I don’t get to hang out with my family at lunch. We got us a podcast here called Primus Tracks. I like Primus Tracks. I sure wish Josh and Frankie would put something on those voices though, it’d be nice if everything could get that big reverb sound. Well, what do I do now? Listen to another episode? Download the Seahawks Exhibition Hall show? I need new episodes! Guess I’m still writin’ …

A deep & excellent dive into the Seas of Cheese
Finally. Finally. I had been searching for a podcast on Primus or Les Claypool over the past few years and, ironically, COVID spurred on the perfect podcast about Primus. I started listening a few episodes into the show. I held off on writing a review because, honestly, I feel it is somewhat easy to gush over the first few Primus albums. Those albums blew a hole in the musical universe if your ears and brain are attuned to it. It was Pork Soda, and the first few episodes into Pork Soda, that spurred me into writing this review. I loved Frizzle Fry and thought it the tops. When PS rolled in, it was good, but it was darker and odder and, for whatever reason, not high on my list. I bought it, saw the tours at this time and enjoyed it, but Josh’s & Frankie’s intricate and fun reviews of the first few tracks re-opened my eyes to this album. For that, I am deeply appreciative. Josh and Frankie are a good pairing with their individual interests and strengths (all focused on Primus, of course). I love the reviews of the lyrics, I never paid attention too much, and takes on the music. The interviews of the people who were inside the Primus camp back in the day are bonus. Good job, Gents!

An overflowing punchbowl of Primus treats!
Thank you Josh and Frankie for creating such an epic journey down memory lane. I first heard Primus when I was a wee pup in high school with the video for Jerry. After that I was hooked for life. It’s been so fun going back down memory lane and rediscovering why I love this band. Thank you for the interviews and obscure knowledge nuggets. I’ve lucky enough to see them back stage during the lollapalooza tour in MI 1993 and a few other times later in the ‘90s. Keep it up boys! Fish on!

Never a dull moment when these gents are a tracking’!
Not only do these gentlemen know their stuff, but they have the rare ability to make one jealous as hell and big time thrilled for the shows they’ve seen and the connections they’ve made. Diving into each episode is a gathering of the Algonquin Round Table and a simultaneous trip down the Rabbit Hole.

It’s just a matter of opinion.
This podcast made me realize that Primus is not one of my top ten favorite bands. They’re actually one of my top 5 favorites! Love the podcast guys, if I were signing your yearbook I would write “don’t change”.

El Sobrante #1
As someone who lived my formative years in El Sobrante, I’ve always loved the local references in Primus/Claypool songs. My favorite thing about this podcast is when they pick apart the lyrics, revealing even more cool references and meanings. Keep up the amazing work!
