As Todd’s longtime friend and colleague, I always appreciated him as a writer, reporter and interviewer. And his zeal for the work. He brings those powers to this podcast in a wonderful way. He is so well-prepared and has such a knack for asking the right questions to get at the stories behind the stories … and the glue and camaraderie of all that makes sportswriting such a challenging and rewarding life.

You don't have to be a sports junkie to thorougly enjoy this podcast. Todd is a great interviewer and he brings out great stories in his guests, but also looks beyond the world of sports to see the writers as more than than just their jobs.

An enlightening and thoughtful podcast that helps you understand why sports print journalism is an art and craft. Great stories about what it’s like to cover sports — the biggest personalities and events, as well as the everyday stories where there is often so much beauty and joy. The listener learns what it is like to deal with — and sometimes tangle with — sports legends and what made them a part of our cultural zeitgeist. Also a must for anyone interested in learning about the history of sports print journalism over the last half-century.

I’m a retired sportswriter so I relate to all the inside stories about travel and deadlines, etc. But any fan can connect to this collection of memories from guys and gals who covered the big events and great athletes. Can’t wait for more.

This should be a must listen for sports fans. Nothing else like it that I can find in the podcast world. Great stories and very funny.

Sportswriters go places that fans can’t - locker rooms, training areas, athletes’ backgrounds, coaches’ minds. The good ones, through the stories they write or tell, make us feel like we were there too. Jones and his guests are the good ones. Fascinating stories indeed. And I love how Todd sits back and lets his guests talk. Prods them with questions and memories, but he doesn’t feel compelled to make the conversations about him like too many podcast hosts.

I worked with Todd Jones 30 years ago at the Cincinnati Post, and I know how much he respects and values the art of sportswriting. He’s an old soul in that respect. Todd’s passion comes through in each episode of this podcast. It’s funny at times, thought-provoking at others, and always insightful and entertaining. You really get to know the writers and the stories behind the stories.

I’ve enjoyed every episode but this last one was so good. Thanks for the entertaining stories but also the context for what any good news or sports story does: connecting us on a human level.

Like listening to two old friends around a fire, or on a barstool just riffing on experiences I can only imagine.

Even though I’ve heard most of those Arch stories firsthand, it was a treat to hear them again.
