A young student is brutally raped and murdered. Her parents, Tom and Christine, are now confronted with the daunting task of processing their grief and attempting to come to terms with the horror that befell their child. The paths they take in doing so, however, couldn't be starker in contrast. Rebecca Bishop is frustrated. After seven years, her boyfriend, Scott Billings, still avoids making any long-term commitment about their future. As a result, she decides, with the reluctant help of her best friend/employee, Michael Allen, to look into online dating, not necessarily to find someone else, but rather, as she puts it, “to understand my options.” Nevertheless, she does discover a guy who looks promising, and she arranges a meeting.
