Investing In Yourself
Two years ago I walked in to a mental health clinic after reaching breaking point. I was scared when I walked in the doors and when my wife drove off it really hit home. In this podcast I discussed the fact my life was at breaking point and how investing in myself changed my life. Over the next month I went to a mental health clinic and went to an external specialist. Both of these places cost money. That money was an investment and an investment which paid much more than money in return. In return I saved my relationship and married the love of my life. In return it gave me the strength to manage through finding out I was infertile, going through the IVF process and having our first child together. In return it gave me skills to manage my emotions much more frequently so I didn't harm friendships. In return it gave me lots more composure playing sport. In return it allowed me to work through many challenges that arose in the past two years. In return I found an understanding that true happiness is internal and yo stop chasing it from external sources (I find so many of us do this and external sources can change daily and a lot of the time we can't control that, but we can control ourselves) With that, I wish for you that as we head in to Christmas and 2022 that if you need help that you reach out and take the hard path to find the internal happiness you deserve. The investment financially and hard work is more than worth it 🙏 Follow PSV here Instagram- Power & strength (@power_strength_vulnerability) • Instagram photos and videos Facebook- https://www.facebook.com/powerstrengthvulnerability To support the podcast please purchase a journal from here https://powerstrengthvulnerability.com.au/product/journal/

Nick from MyndFit- Agoraphobic to mental health practitioner
Nick's story... "Where to begin?! I guess the best place to start would be to explain a bit about where I've come from. I am what's considered to be a "lived experience" practitioner, meaning instead of taking the conventional scholastic route to becoming a psychotherapist, I went to the "school of life" and my initial teachers were my mistakes. I was medically discharged from the Armoured Corp in the Australian Army in 2002 with a permanent knee injury along with anxiety and depression. I had been training hard because East Timor was just kicking off and as a recon soldier based in Darwin, we were going to be first cabs off the rank to go and calm things down a bit. That's when my knee blew out, and it all started spiralling downhill from there. The operation I had was not successful, meaning the rehabilitation I did had no real effect. I was on crutches and in a knee brace for 3 months, then on restricted duties until I discharged. " In this podcast we only touched briefly on his time in the army and the trauma around his childhood. This podcast was all about how as Nick can help people who have mental health issues or mental illness. In the chat there is a huge amount of information which you can take away and put in to practice. We chatted about the most effective way to help the kids of today. Jack talks about his own mental health and saving a mates life.
Jacks story isn't what people would usually talk about but these are the conversations we need to aim to have with our mates week to week to help each other. Jacks first experience with mental illness was when he got a goodbye message from a friend at 18 years of age who was about take his own life. Jack and mates just ran trying to find their friend. Jack found his good friend and held him and told him he loved him. Along with other friends- they saved their friend from taking his own life. Jack hasn't suffered a mental illness but is a human who has experienced the range of emotions which include anxiety and depression. Jack opens up on things he never has before. Thoughts of driving his car off the road and reckless gambling. Jack has been touched by a friend who died by suicide and this is a huge driving factor for him to speak up, raise awareness and funds for mental health charities. In 2021 Jack ran 100km with friend Paul Pratt to raise over $10,000 for MindfullAus If you'd like to help and donate, please follow the link - Jack Symes • Mindfull Aus (raisely.com) https://www.mindfullaus.org/ Anyone follow up questions can be sent to [email protected] Please follow our Instagram https://instagram.com/power_strength_vulnerability?utm_medium=copy_link If you want to help support the growth of this podcast, please like, share, review as we continue to share stories to help other people. Part #2- Premature Birth with Emily Solomon
This story is extremely close to my heart... On April 17th this year, my son Ryder was born 10 weeks premature and we face 51 days in NICU and Special Care nursery. Only a month later a friend from school had her beautiful girl Ava at 26weeks and 6 days. As a parent you want to be able to help your child and the only thing I want to tell you before you listen is that Emily and partner Michael once Ava was born couldn't touch Ava for days, there was no initial hold and they barely got to even see their baby girl. Emily was familiar with the hospital they were at and heard the incoming helicopter which was there to pick up there daughter. Imagining something like this is difficult but it's real and it happens and Emily wants to help people be educated and aware that Neonatal Intensive Care Unit exists. At the time of recording Ava was in hospital for the 82nd day and has been fighting for life for most of it. While this is can be hard to listen to, it's real and Emily, Michael, myself and my wife want you to listen so you can help yourself or help someone else who may go through it. This is a book of a friend who had her twin girls 10 weeks early https://30weeks1day.myshopify.com/ Only 3% of births are before 32 weeks and they are very premature babies and need immediate care and it's a bloody long road. if you want to support this podcast please follow - https://www.instagram.com/power_strength_vulnerability/ or jump on the website and help keep the production of these inspiring stories going by sponsorship or buying some merch. https://powerstrengthvulnerability.com.au/podcast/ For immediate help, please call lifeline on 13 11 14 or for any emergency 000 Other help lines Mental Health Support Lines beyondblue 1300 224 636 Suicide Call Back Service* 1300 659 467 Men's Line Australia* 1300 789 978 PANDA (perinatal anxiety and depression), Monday to Friday 9am to 7.30pm AEST)* 1300 726 306
