Prep Sports Weekly for Monday, January 15, 2024. We meet our December 2023 KRKO Russell and Hill Male Athlete of the Month, junior quarterback Kolton Matson, and his mom Kristin. Kolton led the Lake Stevens Vikings to their second consecutive state football championship in the game held on Saturday, December 2nd at Husky Stadium. Then a couple interviews conducted at the 2024 Cleats vs. Cancer All-Star Football Games held earlier today at Pop Keeney Stadium in Bothell. We hear from Kolton’s teammates, seniors Jaxon Lewis, David “Boogie” Brown, Jesse Lewis and coach Erik Solbakken; then it’s the Shoreline School District contingent with North team head coach Rob Petschl, his son Reid, and Shorecrest head coach Brandon Christensen. Finally, it’s back to winter sports, and girls basketball, as we hear from Stanwood head coach Dustin Swanson.

A Western Conference 2A/3A Girls match-up between the #4 ranked 3A team Arlington Eagles and the #4 ranked 2A team Archbishop Murphy Wildcats. Tuesday, January 9, 2023 with Tom Lafferty and Joel Boyer on the call. KRKO Marysville Toyota Player of the Game was Arlington junior guard Jersey Walker. She scored 11 points for the Eagles, and was tasked with guarding Archbishop Murphy's best player. Final Score: Arlington 74, Archbishop Murphy 61.

We hear from the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the games; and we hear from Shorewood Head Coach Rob Petschl and four of the players Reid Petschl of Shorewood; Jake Reid of Glacier Peak, Blake Springer of Monroe and Luke Shoemaker of Marysville Pilchuck.

Tom Lafferty and Joel Boyer on the call. KRKO Marysville Toyota Player of the Game was senior guard Dawson Bouma of Lynden Christian. He scored 38 points in the Lyncs' 66-64 overtime win. Lynden Christian scored 5 points in the final 5 seconds of regulation to send the game to an extra session. Both teams were undefeated coming into the contest. Lynden Christian is the two-time defending State 1A Champion.
