Still in lockdown and of course still very much in love with Italian House, that will never change. This, my second mix for the podcast, features some crackers from as early as 1989 when i was but a mere 15 years old. Without sounding too old, they don’t make them like they used to. All of the tracks on this mix are particular favourites starting with the not often played mix of Don Carlos : Alone (Flute mix) still a cracker. Flowing through numerous classics including SSR : To be House a fantastic mashup of The Classic Mr Fingers House Track and Ecstasy Don’t Play me raw vocal, then stick in a massive italian piano and you have an instant classic. What i loved about italian house was how many great tracks were blatant ripoffs of other dance classics, but they just worked so well, in a few cases far superior than the originals. Adamski N.R.G another example, although the original will never be bettered Tony Carrasco does a great version included on this mix. Inspired by the early 90’s Italian House sound, plenty Piano in most of the tracks with a couple famous house / rave hits of the time stuck in. I grew up listening to this music and it inspired me to run my own events at the Forum in Livingston, “Dancemania” between 1992 - 1996. Italian house was a large part of what i played back in the day along with house / techno / breakbeat and hardcore. A really unique time when raves played rave music and didn’t stick to one genre like so many events these days. My future mixes and podcasts are hoping to contain a huge variance of music styles across many genres of dance music. Mixes will not have any rules and may specialise in one style / genre but mostly will be a bit of a mashup. This one, clearly, is a bit Italian, thinking of my friends and extended family in Italy at this tough time.
