Chile Under Pinochet 1973-1990 - Ft. Dr. Andrés Solimano
Welcome to Perspectives on Tyranny, a podcast of Regimes Museum. 2023 marks 50 years since the Chilean coup d'état, when military forces, led by Gen. Augusto Pinochet, overthrew the government of Salvador Allende.  For nearly two decades, Pinochet's regime perpetrated numerous human rights violations, including imprisoning and torturing political opponents. It is estimated that more than 3,000 people were killed, including as many as 1,500 who were "disappeared."  To unpack the Pinochet regime and the dark shadow it has cast over Chile, we speak with Dr. Andrés Solimano, an economist and historian based in Santiago, Chile.  Regimes Museum is a nonprofit education institution dedicated to the study and prevention of tyranny.
