Peas in a Pod
Peas in a Pod is a mini-series from two introverts, Rhea and Shivani, who keep coming back to the same question: how do their rich inner lives intersect with the outside world? Call it a glorified phone conversation, a cry for help, a heart-to-heart between two roommates in Brooklyn, or some version of all three. If you’ve been told you think too much or speak too little, if you’re never felt like you belonged to just one place, this one’s for you.
Bright Shiny Penny: Memoli Ward
Your 20s can be the most transformative, turbulent, exciting years of your life. It’s also the decade of tremendous change where you morph into a new version of yourself with each passing year. Long-distance co-hosts Rhea and Shivani are back (albeit, after a long hiatus) with a new episode of Peas in a Pod featuring the bright, shiny, penny Memoli Ward, a Brooklyn-based art director and designer. In this episode, the trio discusses the many versions of their selves through their 20s, the virtues of keeping a diary (3:26), and the age of reflection. (17:06). In the second half of this conversation, they share unfiltered, unedited journal entries from their past selves (25:55), with a final reading of an excerpt from an essay by the bold, beloved writer who laid the inspiration for this entire episode: Joan Didion. We hope you can be the fourth pea in another one of these meandering conversations about our inner lives. Show notes: Eighth Grade On Keeping A Notebook by Joan Didion This podcast is produced by Rhea, a podcast producer and writer currently based in Mumbai; and Shivani, a cultural strategist and writer in New York City. The official soundtrack was composed by Surel Ingale. Special thanks to Diveakssh Schae for mixing + mastering this episode. Got introvert-related stories you want to share with us? Van Life and Mind Palaces with Diveakssh Schae
A third “pea” joins Rhea and Shivani’s transcontinental chat in Season 2’s inaugural episode. Diveakssh Schae a.k.a. Divi is a musician and digital nomad who has spent the past year on the road as a “van lifer”. Originally from India, he moved to Australia when he was 16 and has kept his love for sound alive through the years, from teaching to composing music. In this episode, Rhea and Shivani talk to Divi about career pivots (4:30), alternate living (7:30), making music from a studio on wheels (15:30), material attachments (20:30), befriending loneliness and listening more deeply (30:00), ending with a sweet note about the hidden benefits of mind maps. Note: This conversation was recorded when Divi was producing his first album “Moments of Clarity” from the back of his van in Far North Queensland, Australia, which you can now listen to here.
