Although no official number is recorded, it is estimated that roughly 1000 people have gone missing in our National Parks since 1916, when the National Park Service was set up. Some people believe that number could be much, much higher since there is no national database to track when people go missing on public lands. In part one, Cathi & Jenessa will talk about a few missing children who have disappeared seemingly without a trace in National Parks and the central themes that tie their stories together. When their check in date goes by without any communication, search parties are called in. The hikers' tent is found mutilated, with perhaps the most startling evidence that it was cut open from the inside out. On January 16th, 1997 Scott Falater went to bed. He said the next thing he remembers is police swarming his home and arresting him for killing his wife of twenty years. His defense and court appearance would gain national attention as Scott said he was sleepwalking when he stabbed his wife 44 times.
