Entertainment, where we cheer winners and boo losers, is a big part of our culture. To some degree, this mentality informs more than just how we approach sports or games. It informs how we think about politics, economics, business, and even our spirituality! 

Now, I love games as much as anyone else. Games, however, are a totally inadequate guide when it comes to thinking about how a family or a society should be organized. Can you imagine a family where the “winners” have the right to mock and deride the “losers?” No sane person would ever want to be part of that family!        

The scripture today tells us that God does not believe in “winners” or “losers.” God believes in people. When “winners” carry on like they are better than “losers,” that bugs God. That is exactly what it means to have an “un-Godly” heart. 

The plan is to look at the ways in which God’s people, meaning us, can sometimes have “un-Godly” hearts. Hopefully, we will get a sense that in the end, being God’s people is all about relationships. Loving God and loving our neighbors is at the core of what it means to be a disciple. God believes in people, and we need to as well.
