Most people believe in the “KISS” principle - “Keep it Simple.” When it comes to Paul there are at least two major hurdles that make it difficult to keep it simple. First, Paul lived nearly 2000 years ago. His life was shaped by a radically different economy and his political and social world was substantially different from New Brunswick in 2020. Second, on a deeper level of language and meaning, Paul's worldview, what he took for granted, the very words and images he used, were relative to that time and place. Therefore, if we want to make sense of Paul we have to go into his world, and that takes effort!
