Last month, Lindy West joined Papercuts for an event for the paperback release of SHRILL, her book of essays about the making of a funny feminist, coming of age in a culture that’s hostile to women, especially fat women. It was wonderful to have Lindy join us with 450 fans at the First Church JP in April. But before her event, Lindy discussed reproductive rights and her project Shout Your Abortion with Carol Sanger, author of ABOUT ABORTION. Carol Sanger is the Barbara Aronstein Black Professor of Law at Columbia Law School, and her book Abort Abortion takes readers on an insightful, original, and eye-opening guided tour of the practices, culture, and legislation behind terminating pregnancy in twenty-first century America. On Thursday, April 30, join Papercuts J.P. at the Boston Cyberarts Gallery for a conversation between David Rose, author of Enchanted Objects, and George Fifield, founder and director of Boston Cyberarts. David's "enchanted objects" are objects that he's designed to respond to our needs and learn to predict them. The Boston Cyberarts Gallery, located just down the street from Papercuts J.P. at the MBTA Green Street Station, is dedicated to fostering and presenting innovative electronic and digital art. As the only independent art organization in Massachusetts focusing on new and experimental media, The Cyberarts Gallery was a perfect venue for David's fascinating technological creations, and the conversation was a riveting one! David Rose is an award-winning entrepreneur, author, and instructor at the MIT Media Lab. His research focuses on making the physical environment an interface to digital information. His book, Enchanted Objects, now in paperback, focuses on the future of the internet of things, and how these technologies will impact the ways we live and work. His work has been featured at the MoMA, as well as covered in The New York Times, WIRED, and on The Daily Show.

On Saturday, March 14, 2015, Papercuts J.P. hosted local authors Celeste Ng and Joan Wickersham in a conversation on writing the family tragedy.  Celeste Ng's fiction and essays have appeared in OneStory, TriQuarterly, Bellevue Literary Review, and more. She is a recipient of the Pushcart Prize, and her debut novel, Everything I Never Told You, was a New York Times bestseller, a New York Times Noteble Book of 2014, and was named Amazon's #1 Best Book of 2014.  Joan Wickersham's fiction and essays have appeared in OneStory, Ploughshares, Agni,  The Best American Short Stories, The Best American Nonrequired Reading, and more. She has received the Ploughshares Cohen Award for Best Short Story, and her newest book of fiction, The News From Spain, was named a Best Book of the Year by NPR, San Francisco Chronicle, and Kirkus Reviews.
