024: Marriage Advice on our Ten-Year Anniversary with Chaz Fausel
Celebrating our ten-year anniversary as a married couple, Chaz joins today’s episode as we share some marriage and relationship tips. It’s funny how it feels like it’s just been weeks ago and we also don't feel like we have everything figured out.  When we got married in June of 2012, I was 22 and Chaz was 24. We were pretty young but we thought it was a perfect time. We were also forced to grow up together because we ended up getting pregnant a lot sooner than we had anticipated. Everything we did, we were learning for the first time together. And quickly, we just knew we had to stay together and figure it out. We are both opposites and we're lucky that we have personalities that mesh well. One of the biggest things in our relationship that I love the most is that we make sure we don’t go to bed angry and that we don’t hold onto things.  We know that's not the case for everybody. But if you are dating someone, we encourage you to seek someone where it feels so easy. It's like your relationship can feel like a flat road. Otherwise, if it's feeling like a daily uphill battle, or you feel like you're fighting a lot, that can be a red flag. In this episode, you will hear: Constantly checking in how each other is feeling Asking open-ended questions Finding work-life balance as parents Why we don’t follow traditional gender roles Habits we’ve developed that have impacted our family life Not going to bed angry and not holding onto things Assuming and believing the best in each other Subscribe and Review Have you subscribed to our podcast? 023: Why Clean, Mineral, Reef Friendly Sunscreen Matters with Caroline Duell of All Good
Imagine this: one drop of oxybenzone (a compound used in sunscreens) in six Olympic-sized swimming pools is enough to negatively impact a reef of that size.  Now imagine what that could do to our bodies? Unfortunately, a lot of Americans don't make that connection. It’s time to switch from harmful chemical sunscreens to a much better and safer option. In this episode, Caroline Duell, founder and CEO of All Good, talks about why clean, mineral-based, and reef-friendly sunscreen matters.   Based in Morro Bay, CA, All Good is a company that uses organic and botanical products that serve everyday needs while seeking solutions for a better world. Personally, I love All Good products because they meet all of my standards – they're a certified B Corp, part of the 1% for the Planet Movement, Leaping Bunny certified, climate neutral, reef-friendly, and woman-owned.  What started out as a homespun label and pure labor of love that she gave away to friends or sold at farmer's markets has become an official business eight years later. Today, All Good is a growing brand that has become a staple for people who need it. In this episode, you will hear: An overview of their products How they have come to design their products Their certifications as an outward communication tool What does it mean to be climate neutral? How they’re dealing with sustainability issues Creating mineral-based, safe sunscreen products The worst ingredients in sunscreen and their harmful effects The importance of Vitamin D supplementation Chemical vs. mineral: Why mineral is the way to go Subscribe and Review Have you subscribed to our podcast? 018: Celiac Disease Symptoms vs. Gluten Intolerance Symptoms + Going Gluten-Free with Jenny Finke of Good for You Gluten-Free
Where do you fall on the gluten spectrum? Whether you have celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS) and you're living gluten-free, or maybe you're just curious about what would happen if you eliminated or lessened gluten in your diet, equipping yourself with the right information is beneficial to your nutrition as a whole.    In today’s episode, Jenny Finke of Good for You Gluten-Free talks about living gluten-free, celiac disease, and non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS). Author of the book, Dear Gluten, It's Not Me, It's You, Jenny has been gluten-free since April 2012 when she was diagnosed with celiac disease. Aside from her experience of living gluten-free every day, Jenny also has the nutritional qualifications and credentials to confidently chat with us about this topic as a certified holistic nutrition and wellness coach.   Being diagnosed with celiac disease is a journey of learning and growing – and when you know better, you can do better. Jenny remembers her struggles with finding resources that spoke to her when she first went gluten-free 10 years ago. All the information she gathered was about how to live gluten-free and nothing about body healing and the emotional aspect of dealing with the disease.    Jenny then created Good For You Gluten-Free to share some personal stories and recipes, and even why you’re still feeling sick even if you’re already on a gluten-free diet. Quickly, it has grown into a great information site for everyone looking to lead a healthier life.   In this episode, you will hear: What is celiac disease? 017: The Organic Episode | Is Organic Food Better for You?
The term “organic” has become a buzzword for quite some time now, and a lot of companies label their products as such claiming it’s a healthier option. But is organic food really better for you?   Today, we are going to talk about organic food in the United States since every single country has different requirements for the label “organic.” We dive in specifically to what the USDA-certified organic label means in the United States.    The research I've done revealed to me that the term organic is completely misunderstood in our environment. A lot of people think that being organic means being more expensive. Many think organic means it came from the ground, so why pay more for an organic product than a regular one?    My goal for today is to clarify what the word organic means, and why it is better for you and the environment. As more and more of us buy organic, hopefully, it will encourage more farmers to make the switch because we are voting with our purchases.    In this episode, you will hear: The official definition of organic The lack of clarity about what certified organic really means Organic vs. natural More USDA definitions specific to what you’re growing The benefits of organic foods and products The dangers of pesticides and herbicides Why organic is better for the environment Why organic products are more expensive Ways to make organic cheaper How organic certification inspection works Subscribe and Review Have you subscribed to our podcast? 015: Home Organization Ideas by Enneagram Type with Laurie Palau of Simply B Organized
Are you a neat freak or are you clutter-blind? Does a sink full of dishes ever bother you or do you just pass by it as if you didn’t even see it?   You see, there's a connection between people's motivation based on their Enneagram type and how they respond to clutter, whether they are super controlling and averse to clutter, or clutter blind.   In this episode, I’m joined by Laurie Palau, the founder of Simply B Organized, and she can help you clear the clutter for good. Laurie is also the host of the top-rated podcast This Organized Life and the author of the book “Hot Mess.” Laurie has been studying the psychology of clutter for several years and has recently been diving into how she can use the knowledge from the Enneagram to help people clear their clutter.    Today, we’re going to do an overview of all nine Enneagram types, the common pitfalls, and the things that people can do when it comes to clutter and organizing their homes and their lives.    Knowing your Enneagram type can be extremely useful when it comes to organizing stuff around your house and your life – whether we’re talking about the material/physical clutter, emotional clutter, or calendar clutter.   Laurie points out that it's not about labeling people or labeling things, but it's important to be able to provide language where you can articulate and communicate what you do. Because a lot of times, we get frustrated with things since we don't have the language to articulate them.     In this episode, you will hear: What is an Enneagram? Looking at the psychology of clutter The Enneagram image and its Christian roots Developing grace and empathy for other people How the Enneagram impacts your life How it allows you to understand other people better An overview of the nine types   Subscribe and Review Have you subscribed to our podcast?
