In music, nostalgia can be a tricky thing. People tend to complain that they’re not hearing much that sounds new.

The four piece Swedish-American indie rock band Grizfolk came by NV89 studios to perform a few new songs and talk about thier latest record Rarest of Birds (released July 19th via Nettwerk).Check out the interview with Grizfolk and NV89 Music Director / afternoon host Gia DeSantis. The Head and the Heart, acclaimed indie folk band with roots in Americana formed in Seattle 2009 by a group of northwestern transplants. The band stopped into Reno for a show on July 25th 2019 while on tour for their fourth studio release Living Mirage, available now on Warner Records. Supporting their tour, St. Paul MN band Hippo Campus.

Summer could be the most inspirational season in pop music. Think "Hot Fun in the Summertime" by Sly Stone, "Summertime Sadness" by Lana Del Rey, "Cruel Summer" by Bananarama -- and damn near the entire Beach Boys catalog.Summer-related themes and references are certainly well-represented in the Nevada-based songs played by NV89, Nevada Public Radio’s music station in Reno.

NV89 afternoon host Gia DeSantis caught up with Britt Daniel, frontman of the iconic band Spoon on the tour bus before their show in Reno on July 15th 2019.Spoon recently released the single "No Bullets Spent" that is featured on their forthcoming album Everything Hits at Once--a best of compilation out July 26th on Matador Records. Spoon is currently on tour with Cage The Elephant, Beck and Starcrawler.

Nevada voted to legalize recreational marijuana two years ago this month.  And today, July 10, is known to pot enthusiasts as 710, a day honoring the growing legalization of cannabis oil and extracts.

Justin Furstenfeld frontman for the band Blue October stopped by the NV89 studio to perform a few songs and have a conversation with NV89 afternoon host Gia DeSantis.Justin and Gia talk about his wife and family who were the inspiration to transform his life through sobriety (now seven years sober), taking his daughter to see an upcoming Billie Eilish concert, and recording music at Peter Gabriel's studio in England; Peter being one of Justin's biggest inspirations as a musician.

Antista grew up in Fullerton, CA and once he reached his teens, he became fully invested in the flourishing Orange County punk scene of the late 1970s/early ‘80s. One of the tightest bonds he forged in high school was with Steve Soto of Agent Orange and the Adolescents, a staunch friend and ally who tragically died in 2018 at the age of 54. “I had never thought about playing an instrument until 1979 when punk rock exploded at my high school, Troy High School in Fullerton,” reveals Antista.​
