Incredible glimpse into how environmental professionals are fighting for their worth
Nova Conversations is lifting the veil on the harsh reality of working as a biologist/conservationist where highly talented and educated people with numerous degrees and years of expertise struggle to earn a basic living wage doing what they love. In addition to sharing her own heartfelt experiences, Laura brings in fellow industry colleagues with diverse backgrounds to discuss their hardships and triumphs working in an industry too often defined by the phrase “All work and no pay”. At a moment in society where it certainly feels like decision makers are not giving environmental issues the platform and emphasis they deserve, this podcast further drives the point home by revealing how employees in this industry are constantly being exploited (working for incredibly low pay if lucky enough to be paid at all) and confronted with dropping their passion-work altogether to pursue new careers- just to make a decent living. Even if you’re not someone who identifies as a conservationist or environmentalist, you’ll be inspired by this podcast and want to fight for better working conditions and benefits for these professionals. I highly recommend giving this podcast a chance, opening yourself up to learning what you can, and seeking out ways that you can support the effort in your own life.
