Gods and Religions; Ep 11, The Nosy Drag Inn
Gods in Dungeons & Dragons are more than what they are in real life. They are visible and tangible, and power is clearly seen. We go over ways gods can be fun and exciting to have them interact with the party. We go over why being clear with your players/your DM is important if you’re a cleric, and why making sure both people's ideas of the gods line up. How does the dogma of the god affect mortal behavior ( Like if the god of light requires their followers must die in the light to go to their demiplane). What do the gods want from the material plane (worship? Information, temples, order, chaos, etc.). How involved are the gods with the ongoing of mortals (Never, Rarely, Sometimes, Often, Always). Do the gods have followers that witness? What is the god a god of? (an idea,  morality, an element, an emotion, god of stuff, god of an action (stealing, healing, etc.), or a race). What are the gods' relationships like with one another? What happens when you gain/lose favor of the gods? Are gods killable? What motivation would you have had to do so? We also talk about How do you implement the Religion Skill into gameplay. And Where are churches/temples located in the world, and how can visiting them be fun?    You can watch us live on Twitch! Character Deaths; Ep 10, The Nosy Drag Inn
Character death can be a game-changing experience for everyone at your table. in this episode, we talk about how to kill players and NPCs in a way that adds to the game rather than taking away from it. Some of the ideas we share to name a few in the episode are, Making them meaningful by playing music and setting the tone (use spotlight), messaging privately, or taking a player aside beforehand if death is imminent to prepare them for it, asking your DM to see if character death is right for your party (setting up incredible story beats with your DM out of sessions can make profound roleplay moments and stroy driven deaths), when is it potentially Taboo; To kill or not to kill?, planning out character deaths, VS unexpected instances and the pros and cons, when a player is ready to say goodbye to a character there are other options than just killing them, when to revive or not to revive, how your world changes after a loss (NPCs, Politics, Etc), dying in combat VS Dying out of combat and how to roleplay each,  exploring why shouldn't kill a players character if that player isn't there (without speaking to them first), and so much more!    You can watch us live on Twitch! In-between Adventures; Ep 9, The Nosy Drag Inn
This time we talk all about the moments in between the action; downtime, character one on ones, etc. Normally not looked forward to, but can be just as fun or potent for gameplay. It is a good time to connect to NPCs, backstory characters, in-game families, guilds, or patrons. Do your shopping! shopping can slow down the game at times, so when your party has downtime its the perfect time. Training in a new skill or weapon can be fun, roleplaying can change your characters, physically or psychologically from time apart or time together. Character Oneshots can add depth, and make each character seem personal. Helps to explain the time that a BBEG has to build their forces or a previous town or area to change. And a good opportunity for talking about the campaign direction and where people want to go. You can watch us live on Twitch! We record every episode live on Twitch. Engaging Combat; Ep 7, The Nosy Drag Inn
Making combat more engaging can be challenging but in the episode, we go over many ways to bring your combat to life. Using vivid clear imaginative descriptions of actions in combat brings everyone in on what's happening, but also what you are seeing in your mind's eye. Making multiple hits can be described as one for more epic blows. Fleshing out misses as parrying, landing but not doing any damage, or blocking instead of just missing can make combat seem way more dynamic and interesting. Bounce off of teammates' attacks/ideas to make everything feel more cohesive. Combining Enemy turn orders for large groups for faster turns. Using features like “Bloodied” from 4th edition or using our homebrew rule “critical” (when a creature or object has less than half of its total hit points remaining and one standard attack from the party of damage would reduce it to 0 hit points the creature or object is considered critical.) can give players an idea of how the combat is going and aid in gauging morale. Using your “environment” to describe hits (a hit with a sword can be described as "I grab a bottle from the bar and smash it onto his head") There’s room for roleplay in combat too; Taunting, Intimidating, or Peacekeeping are all ways you can try to use charisma in combat. we also go over optional rules from the Dungeon Master's guide like Hitting Cover and Massive Damage   You can watch us live on Twitch!
