Ons immuunsysteem is een ongelofelijk geavanceerd systeem. Zo ingewikkeld en subtiel dat we het maar gedeeltelijk begrijpen. Des te opmerkelijker dat heel eenvoudige levensvormen, zoals de E. Coli bacterie toch bijna altijd een eigen immuunsysteem hebben. Aanvulling Restrictie enzymen: het is niet mogelijk voor bacterien om de sequences waarop hun restrictie enzym ingrijpt helemaal te voorkomen. De bacterie zorgt er voor dat de kwetsbare stukjes in het eigen DNA gemetyleerd worden: er wordt een extra molecuul op de DNA streng geplakt.
