This review is specifically written about the Weak People Make Hard Times episode, but I absolutely love this whole podcast! To Matt concerning your bit around having been libertarian. I just have to say I totally agree with you on all points. Someone needs to grab the pendulum and slow it down. I’m an 18 year old senior in high school right now and am trying to figure out how to vote and how I can interact with people who are not aware of their own depravity and biases (not that I always do lol). It truly gives me hope for the future knowing that there are intelligent people out there who agree with me. Lastly, I must say that you articulated your position in a way that proved (in my view at least) that you have truly put an immense amount of thought into them. Love the podcast and both of you guys!

Destin and Matt do a great job opening up the mind of the third chair. Wether it is an episode about playing catch, history, religious texts, or war, NDQ always leaves me thinking deeper and looking inward. I covet deeply after friendship like this, these two men are incredible friends, men who love each other profoundly, support each other eagerly, and sharpen each other zealously. It is refreshing and lovely and a wonderful analog for Christ. Matt, my favorite thing that you say fairly often is “stuff means stuff”. How do you communicate that with young students? I teach high school theatre, and it’s one thing to get them to understand that a human turning into a tree when they died represents escape from bondage. That’s easy symbolism and heavy handed analogy, but quite another to convince them that the things they say and do every day has weight and significance. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

I love this podcast on a long drive or long day of working in my garden —- Matt and Dustin get along so well and challenge each other and ask wonderful (never dumb) questions!! After each episode I feel like I watched a great movie, plus attended a Ted talk and laughed along the way. Thank you guys!

Destin and Matt are just genuinely likable and funny guys, who have great chemistry together which leads to very funny interactions. They could leave it at that, and this would be an enjoyable listen. The magic of this podcast is they are also very intelligent and thoughtful, and don’t mind swimming in the deep water of ideas.

We love it most when y’all get laughing and enjoy yourselves while entertaining us. Thank you for teaching us (about WWF), challenging us (cigarette butt), and making us laugh until Mama had to run to the bathroom (possum hunt). We love learning from two humble guys who just ooze interesting tidbits which often convict us and cause us to think harder.

One of the most wholesome podcasts of all time. Destin and Matt feel like your good friends who cheer you up every time you’re with them. They tackle the whole gamut of topics, from trivial to complex, all the while bringing laughs and thought-provoking ideas to the table. I’m a mechanical engineer with a love of biblical studies as well as a growing household of kiddos, so maybe this podcast was just made for me??

I’ve been a fan of this podcast for at least a year now. I love how deep Matt and Destin go on whatever topic they arrive at (whether accidentally or on purpose). I appreciate that they only accept sponsorships from products that they use and like. While I happen to share many of their views on religion, I appreciate how they always respect where people who are not of faith are coming from. This podcast was recommended by a friend and boy am I glad I gave it a listen. I started with the marshmallow episode and was hooked after learning about the shearing of a marshmallow. I’m an engineer who has always had an interest in history - so this podcast is literally perfect. I find myself getting emotional, laughing out loud and everything in between when listening. A friend recommended this podcast a year or so ago and I gave it a try. It quickly became one of my favorite podcasts. I started from episode one and have now listened to every episode and it is now, definitely my favorite podcast. I come from an engineering background by education and I didn’t really appreciate history growing up. One of the biggest things that I found personally through this podcast is a developed sense of interest, wonder, and enjoyment of history. Thanks Matt! I also come from a Christian background, and Matt and Destin do mention their Christian beliefs occasionally, but I feel like they do the best out of almost anyone I know at not pushing their beliefs on others and just sharing what they believe and how it affects their decisions and world view. Overall, I have enjoyed every episode of this podcast and can’t wait for each new one. Proud to be one of the Winged Hussars!

I listen to both Matt and Destin’s channels individually and finding that they do this together was an amplifier to my podcast rotation. Full of interesting conversations and exploring corners of society and topics that wouldn’t normally be accessible in such a casual manner. Thank you for seeking these topics out and talking about so many subjects in rational and humanly ways. And yes, I listen to these podcasts almost 100% of the time on my Raycon earbuds.

Interesting, funny great to listen to on a Saturday morning with a cup of coffee

I love this podcast! Destin and Matt are hilarious and goofy and yet have deep, complex ideas that are very thought provoking. I love their genuineness and their serious conversations. They also make me laugh a lot while listening.

I discovered SED a few years ago, and it was my first encounter with quality YouTube. Destin’s videos are so meaningful, educational, and valuable. I love his pure joy of learning. The best part of any video is when he is puzzled or giddy when he has an epiphany. All-time best moment is when he introduced HARD-CORE dominoes. He knew what he was “researching” was ridiculous, but he didn’t care. I can relate so much! SED also served as a gateway into a world of media I never knew existed. SED lead me to NDQ, which acts as central hub where a constant stream of guests directs me to a new source of quality media. NDQ led me, of course, to TMBH, which I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. I’m 15, so I do a lot of yard work, and I run a lot, so I can plow through a lot of podcast episodes at double speed. I listened to 180 episodes of TMBH in 3 weeks. I love it. Matt’s delivery is exactly what we need in news coverage: a presentation of the facts, as well as a few theories. I love that Matt leaves conclusions up to the listener. *No, I’m not Matt’s mom :)*

I’ve been listening for a while but not until the Harold episode did I write this review. We did this to my siblings. My kids did this to theirs. It’s a time-honored tradition and such fun. Also, your youngest is so fun and you should definitely have her on the podcast again.

This podcast has been a refreshing alternative to the often polarized and/or echo-chamber-esque media in our world these days. I’m appreciative of their perspectives but even more appreciative of the tone in their dialogue and disagreement. Thanks for the work Matt and Destin! A great podcasts! Has a wonderful combination of deep topics and goofy rambles. I anxiously await new episodes, and have made my way through most of the older ones. A must listen. No matter your political standpoint or personal opinions, you’ll be able to get something out of this podcast. 10/10 recommend. My sister got me hooked. Discovered this podcast at the very beginning. Listened to every episode. Generally enjoyable. Two hosts, Matt and Destin. I really resonate with Matt’s logical approach to the world. Lately I am starting to worry that Destin is going to throw out his shoulder from patting himself on the back so hard.

You know, I have a few podcasts that I regularly come back to and I’m more than glad to say this is one of them. Dustin and Matt always put forward an honest conversation and message and I really appreciate it. I, overall, think this is a “must listen to” and highly recommend this podcast to anyone. At times I do disagree with them on certain subjects (like religious ones) but that doesn’t take away from the conversation and I like that they don’t shove it down your throats. My parents are a lot more annoying about religion, and Dustin and Matt keep it casual and nothing is forced upon you, which I appreciate. Thank you for your words that challenge the way I think in a positive, critical manner and how they teach me to keep an open mind for all walks of life. I really appreciate that we get to be part of the conversation, even if it’s just listening through the third chair.

Been listening for about two years. I’m vaguely familiar with the “edu-sphere” on YouTube that these two come from (think VSauce, Brady Haran/Numberphile etc.) but for two years I have been visualizing Derek from Veritasium instead of Destin in my head while listening. Yesterday my son and I watched (coincidentally) Destin’s video on breaking the sound barrier, and I realized my grave error. My listening will never be the same, my world is shattered, my trust in the most foundational truths of our world is shaken. Great podcast though.

Each episode is a blend of fun conversation between two friends, good conversation topics, and stimulating thoughts about each topic. Each episode is engaging and gives opportunity for thought that may differ from your own. Their discussions make me think differently and entertain me as well. They make an obvious effort to make varying views welcome on their show without compromising their own. Always enjoyable.

I am so glad this exists. I support Destin through Patreon, and have been a fan of Smarter Everyday for a long time, and to hear the long form version of the things he is passionate about is entertaining and educational. That paired with Matt’s philosophy background provides a great setting to unpack the entirety of their subject’s place in the world. I’m an dad, Christian, engineer, entrepreneur, and all around geek, and this podcast scratches a little bit of all of those itches. From how to handle bullies and parallels to Ender’s Game, to the sanctity of weddings, and an entertaining dive into Calculus, this show has it all. Matt and Destin deserve your patronage and are serving as great examples as experts in their fields, and willing to share their life experiences to the audiences benefit. No offense to Matt and Destin, but the guest star/pastor Daylan has a voice like honey on oil and a wit like a flensing knife to get to the real meat of an issue. Also, I just listened to episode 66 and agree with the review Matt and Destin read out about on air. Yes, Jesus will probably be mentioned. These are men of faith, but proselytizing is not the game here. It’s gonna be ok. Come listen to some very smart and interesting people.

Yes, the listener is subjected to a simple conversation between friends, but just as the title suggests, there aren't many topics that they are not afraid to tactfully discuss. It is a opportunity to observe a healthy and wholesome relationship between two guys who love to learn and care deeply about others.

I listen to this podcast in all of my spare time, during chores, downtime, driving etc. I learn new things and enjoy just hearing thought provoking subjects in every since episode. I am not remotely religious but I super enjoy learning more about it. So many fun topics and genres all wrapped up in one podcast. My younger brother recommended this podcast to me about a year ago, and though it sounded like something I would have loved, I didn’t get around to actually listening to it until a few months ago. My biggest regret is that I did not listen to it sooner! This is the greatest podcast my little ears have ever come across! Destin and Matt both are such brilliant people, and their senses of humor leave my ribs aching and me crying from laughing so hard. I’ve been recommending this podcast to literally everyone, and they all love it too! For me, personally, I love hearing both perspectives on topics—Destin’s logical and engineering brain, and Matt’s historical and humanities points of view. I leave listening to an episode feeling inspired and excited to pursue my dream of becoming a Geologist. I love the deep and meaningful conversations, and then all the jokes in between. I love being part of the third chair, and I feel like I’ve found a community I belong to. Destin and Matt, you have my sword [and my bow, and my ax]. Thank you for creating this platform! I have found a second home.

The mistake I made was not being patron

I’ve come to podcasts late in the game and have reaped all the benefits. No Dumb Questions is a gem. Beautiful, humorous dialogue between two thoughtful men, enjoyable topics ranging the gamut. The audio is crisp and professional. I love the hosts and their guests alike. I knew and admired Destin going into it but have really come to delight in Matt too. Would host them both in my home, even. After all, I treasure hosting them in my ears.

In the early episodes I felt like there was more hit and miss, but sometimes they would really make me consider issues from a new perspective or even draw my thoughts to a topic for the first time ever. The frequency with which this podcast accomplishes that has only increased over time. The STEM/Humanities angle is effective and they do a good job of challenging oneanother and not being too synchophantic in their discussions. I do get weirded out when the publicly affirm the depth of their friendship though. I don’t need to hear how much you appreciate one another, guys. We get it.
