Today’s reading takes us to Leviticus 16, where God gives Israel the Day of Atonement. The question behind the chapter is massive: how can sinful people live near a holy God without being destroyed by His holiness? The answer is atonement—blood is shed, sin is confessed, guilt is covered, and the scapegoat carries Israel’s sins away into the wilderness.
Leviticus 16 reminds us that the Old Testament sacrifices had to be repeated every year because they were never the final answer. But in Jesus, our Advocate and propitiation, the picture becomes the Person. The blood has been offered, the veil has been torn, the sacrifice is finished, and our sins are carried away. So today, read Leviticus 16 and rest in this: Jesus did not merely make atonement possible—He completed it.
