I really enjoyed this! I could listen to people talk about good movies all day and it really helps when those people have substance to what they are saying. I think you guys give honest praise and positive criticism. I just had a thouroughly pleasant hour and will be back for more. Edit: It has been a year and this podcast just keeps getting better (Except for that Birthversary episode ;) jk)!! I love the Off The Shelf episodes, it's super fun to re-live some of my favorite movies. I've requested movies and these guys do not disappoint! This podcast is the perfect thing to listen to as you’re working or getting things done around the house. It’s upbeat, honest, and legit makes me want to watch every movie they talk about so I can form my own opinions! I even enjoy listening to the episodes about movies I haven’t seen - it’s like having a friend recommend something they love (or not recommend something they dislike). Definitely recommend!!

A perfect balance between great chemistry with the hosts and great critical analysis of films. You really learn a lot. And hey, they made me appreciate Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi, which I didn’t think was possible!

I found this podcast recently after a drought of great podcasts in my life. I’ve now listened to nearly every episode thus far and I don’t regret it. Never stop making these, I’m always up for a discussion from you guys.

Sorry but you guys have great opinions when I comes to many other cinematic feats. But I cannot bring myself to agree or even tolerate the love you are showing for this new Star Wars sequel trilogy. At the end of the day Disney’s producers wanted to fill their pockets in the safest way possible, with out taking any real risks or developing their own characters or storyline in an original and exciting way. It has ruined my opinion on the franchise and in new productions in general. The Force Unleashed video game in 2009 had a better storyline than this garbage. Just awful. Thumbs down. But that’s just my opinion I guess. But it relates to the opinions of many other true fans.

Can’t wait to listen to the back catalog

So many movie podcasts take the low road, using derisive humor for a quick laugh, a dopamine hit that may bring a chuckle, but in the end dismisses the work of those who make movies. CJ and Jordan may have problems with the movies that they talk about from time to time, but they are always respectful. They have a good time, but take the craft seriously. Thanks for keeping to the high road.

This podcast has changed the way I watch movies. The Nerd and the Critic have explained things to me in such a way as too change my viewing experience of movies I’ve probably seen a hundred times before. Because of these two educated and lovable hosts I can watch some of my favorite flicks with different eyes and a whole new level of enjoyment and appreciation for the art that is film making!! They are very entertaining and I feel like a fly on the wall of an extremely knowledgeable and interesting conversations about some of the best and worst films out there. Keep up the good work guys!!!

You know when you see a movie and it just isn’t good? And your friends ask, ‘Oh, how was it?’ And you say ‘Uh, that movie sucked!’ And they say, ‘Bummer! Why?’ And you suddenly are stumped. You just stand there lacking the an effective way to define exactly what you didn’t like. And you sputter and you try to to say something like, ‘The girl, what was her deal anyway, like your whole character is, Blah-I’m a jerk!’ But you can’t really say, ‘They failed to move the plot along and Actress X had bad writing and no support from the director...’ Well that is what these guys are doing! It’s a super entertaining education on why I hate and love movies. And it’s in a language that is 50% Nerd and 50% actual educated movie lingo! Thank you Gentlemen! I am loving every single episode and am a more educated viewer as well!

Nerd Critic is truly a delight to listen to. Jordan and CJ have struck this incredibly wonderful balance with their insightful commentary and criticism of films and their witty banter that is just so enjoyable and fun to experience. If you love films and talking about films or listening to two nerd critics talk about films then you should listen to Nerd Critic.

These guys have done a great job giving deeper meaning to movies that I used to watch with glossed over ignorance. Movies that used to just “entertain me” for an hour now have a deeper and lasting connection to me. Thanks guys!

I may not always agree with their stance about a particular topic but their explanations and discussion keeps me thirsting for more. Great stories, great conversation, better guys.

...after seeing the latest flick with your two of your closest friends. You just experienced a cinematic climax that was so epic, you're pretty sure you could run through that brick wall ahead if you wanted to. Your first friend is just as stoked as you are and is stuttering so hard recreating sound effects and punchlines, you think his mind might ACTUALLY be blown. Your other friend lets you have your moment (because he's nice like that), but on the ride home begins a debate that will only end when your 7th generation of descendants manage to remove the ancient curse. That's pretty much what it's like to listen to this podcast. And it's awesome. Epic excitement for movie greatness and 500 degree roasts for tired tropes. Jordan was a TA for my "Intro to Film" class way back when, and I credit him for recommending a great movie (The Brothers Bloom) to kickstart my critical thinking about excellent storytelling. My filmwatching experience and time working at Pixar, Blue Sky, and DreamWorks has certainly benefitted from it. I don't know CJ, but I wish I did because of this podcast. I'd definitely go see a movie with him too. :) p.s. I definitely had to download iTunes just to leave this review. It's not as easy as y'all make it out to be.

This is my new favorite podcast. The hosts have a great dynamic and they have insightful things to says about sooo many movies. They remind me of movies I used to love and they hype me up about movies I haven’t seen yet. They make me appreciate great story-telling in a way that enriches my movie-watching experience. They are brilliant but unassuming, so each episode is very approachable. They treat me like I’m smart, but they present information in an entertaining, accessible way— anything but esoteric. I love it!

CJ has sparked my interest in movies for years now. Listening to Jordan and CJ interacting regarding movies is so enjoyable. Their insights and enthusiasm are fun and educational. Well done!

Jordan and CJ have mastered accessible, entertaining, and educational film discussion in their podcast, Nerd Critic. They are able to represent both the film layperson and the experienced filmgoer equally as they discuss the purpose, importance, and overall success of a film. I especially appreciate the generally equal exploration of all types of films lining the spectrum, from the highest grossing blockbuster of the year to the quiet, arthouse films. It seems like their goal is to effectively clue their audience in to what makes movies great, with necessary emphasis on narrative and characters and thereby help their listeners raise their standards for moviegoing. Aside from that, CJ and Jordan have excellent chemistry and listening to them banter even on a tangent is a pleasure. I feel like anyone could talk to them about movies and they wouldn't condescend in the slightest. These guys know their stuff, but they're great at translating it for people with less expertise. Out of all the podcasts I listen to, I get most excited for new episodes of Nerd Critic.

I know CJ personally so I’ve always clicked on his stuff but honestly their A Star is Born recap is the first I’ve been so incredibly captivated by. Don’t get me wrong, he’s always done an amazing job but I’ve been high key obsessed with this movie. This conversation on the pod has given me new perspectives on the film and it’s characters and I appreciate that so much. Awesome job. *subscribe* I’m definitely planning on tuning in more often.

If you like movies, this show will make you like them even more. Imagine a fabulous dinner conversation with two of your smartest and funniest friends, but where the only subject is good films. It does a wonderful job of thoughtfully combining celebration and critique. Take a break from the news cycle and listen to something that will just leave you feeling happy.

Not having training on what makes a movie work and why/why not, I'm really enjoying these podcasts to help fill in those blanks! Fun to listen to the banter between CJ and Jordan and get insights that come from different backgrounds. Special thanks for helping me to understand why I was so emotionally checked out during Avengers: Infinity War. Enjoyed it immensely but did NOT care about what I was sure I was supposed to care about.

This is an excellent podcast. The perspective that these two have is always very interesting and it is apparent they have a passion for movies and filmmaking. They do a great job of articulating the strengths and weaknesses of the movies they review and more than once I found myself nodding along in agreement. I always look forward to new episodes and I will be a consistent listener as long as they make them. Great job guys!
