This week I sit down with Jimbo Slice… Jimmy Detalente. Jimmy is the lead singer and songwriter for Jimmy Detalente and The Electric Revival. Jimmy and I reflect on our 20 plus year friendship, we come to complete agreement on why the 70s was the far superior musical decade to the 80s, discuss the difference between wearing your influences on your sleeve and being a total rip off (we are looking at you Greta Van Fleet), and even touch on how your enneagram number effects your approach to songwriting. You can find out more about Jimmy and his band at www.sparktherevival.com. So sit back, buckle up and adjust the rearview you are listening to Nashville to Memphis.

This I make a call to La La Land to get Taylor Kottke on the phone to talk about the role of mentors and the value of a good question. Taylor Kottke, first gained an interest in the music business when she managed and sang in a local cover band in her teenage years. She then went on to pursue a degree in the field at Visible Music College, where she managed a summer tour with Visible Worship, worked under Boo Mitchell of Royal Studios in Memphis and went on to hold various Los Angeles internships in the summers before graduating in 2016. She now lives in Los Angeles and works for Faculty Management and Productions, running day-to-day operations for major worship band, Mosaic MSC and rising indie-pop star, Riah. This week we take a different turn on N2M. I recently guest spoke for a audio recording techniques class my good friend and frequent N2M guest Justin Patton was teaching. The topic was preparing to make an album. So in a strange twist, I am the one being interviewed and asked questions. Warning Justin was feeling a little friskier than normal with his language. This week on N2M I have a conversation with one of my oldest friends Todd Burden… not just that I have known him a long time but that he is old. Todd is a basketball coach and the founder/ director of InBounds Ministries and serves as a full-time missionary. InBounds was established over 20 yrs. ago utilizing athletics as a platform to share the good news of Jesus Christ as the Substitute that God sent into the game of life, and teaching the Bible as God’s Playbook. Todd is also a cancer survivor. Todd and I talk about the wisdom of Wizard of Westwood the great John Wooden, the value and need for Mentors and what that looks like from a Biblical perspective, how the world misunderstands missionaries, and why cancer truly does suck.
You can find Todd at http://coachburden.blogspot.com/ .
