At first, one might think that #61ststreet is another "Black trauma show" (something that's not inherently bad within reason, though at times difficult to watch. But that's a complex conversation for another time). However, it's not. When I started watching the series, one of my first joking thoughts was, "Uh, oh. Time to put up the emotional barriers. Repeat after me - 'it's just a show, it's just a show.'" Naturally, given the type of series it is, it also deals with real life situations.But it's also a hopeful series that shows something we don't often get to see. A fictionalized and uplifting behind-the-scenes of the lives of people creating a way. Not just in everyday life, but in politics and justice. And, of course, there's some shady dealings and mystery, too.All in all, it's engaging, as much for the writing as the acting. The legendary #CourtneyBVance (big ups to #LovecraftCountry) and #AunjanueEllis (#KingRichard - what, what!) lead the cast with sincere acting that ties everything together. And #HoltMcCallany plays one hell of a bad guy!
