As Dorothea appears to be attempting to escape out to the countryside. Such is the pressure she feels over her relationship with Randall that she knows she has to go somewhere that is unfamiliar to her. Where she may not be known or judged. Though her decision may be harsh to some it is a decision she has to make in order to remain free. Should she marry Randall she would be under his and society’s control. Dr. Chevalier’s Lie,” an 1891 story that was eventually published in Vogue, on October 5, 1893. Barely a page long, Chopin’s story offers a subtle social critique, focusing on a doctor who responds to yet another violent death in an “unsavory quarter” of town. When he arrives at what can only be a brothel, he recognizes the suicide as the young woman from a homestead he once visited in Arkansas. His lie is the letter he writes to her family, concealing her “shame.” But the final lines of the story also suggest the hypocrisy of society, which briefly considers “cutting” him for his care for a “woman of doubtful repute”—but then “did not.” This year has been difficult to everybody and suicides has been on rise but in this insane time, a small positive flicker of hope and relief is that we finally started to have conversation regarding Mental Health and how to deal with the same. 'An Idle Fellow' is an almost surreal short story or scrap with hidden symbology penned in 1894 or thereabout by American writer Kate Chopin. This is a story of two boys: one studies books about languages and other is idle. Other boy has one quality, he sees at people's faces and tells about what're their problems etc.. It tries to reinforce the idea that books and knowledge from books is not true wisdom.

“The Blindman” is much to do with the view of society towards the less fortunate and does not portray the Blind men’s thoughts and feelings. As wealthy man dies instead of the Blindman, it almost gives a sense of justice as he already has to put up with a lot from the other side of society. In “The Blindman”, when the accident happens Kate Chopin builds up the tension by using alliteration and colons to speed it up which makes the story tense as listener wants to know who has been run over.

"A Cosmopolite in a Café", takes place in a café at the evening, when it is crowded. The narrator sits at small table with two vacant chairs. Everything begins when a man, who calls himself “cosmopolite”, enters the café and takes one of the chairs. He tells that he had traveled around the world and knows all about multiple countries. But at the end the narrator concludes that the man is not a cosmopolite. Why does he think so? The story gives a fair idea about who true cosmopolite is

'The Romance of a Busy Broker' is about a workday in Harvey Maxwell's broker's office. Harvey walks in with Miss Leslie, his beautiful stenographer, by his side. Harvey's preoccupied, but not in his usual robotic way. His clerk, Pitcher, notices that Miss Leslie is behaving differently, too. She has a new glow to her.

''The Cactus'' by O. Henry, the main character, Trysdale, has just left a wedding and is reflecting on his past relationship with the bride. In his misery, he recalls deceiving her into believing that he knew Spanish, and his pride made him believe that perception meant more than reality.

'Hearts and Hands'' by O. Henry is a story about two acquaintances who meet on a train. When Mr. Easton encounters Miss Fairchild, he is handcuffed to another man. One passenger on the train, however, realizes that things are not as they seem.

Some of his works include "The Gift of the Magi", "The Duplicity of Hargraves", and "The Ransom of Red Chief" His legacy includes the O. Henry Award, an annual prize awarded to outstanding short stories.
