Calvin "C'Rod" Rodgers is considered to be the most highly regarded drummer in gospel music, and one of the most respected recording drummers of his generation. Given that our co-host Mr. Michael Bland is considered to be one of the most respected recording drummers of HIS generation, we couldnt resist the opportunity to put them in a virtual room together! Calvin is known for his work with everyone from Ricky Dillard and John P. Kee to R. Kelly and Aretha Franklin. He has gone from studying under Ramsey Lewis to being the music director for Fred Hammond. We will probably talk about what it's like to be a trend setting drummer, mentoring the next generation of musicians and artists, and being a working musician during the pandemic.
Co-host Dan Spiffy Neuman is a guitarist, organist, minister, and musical director from Madison WI. Dan was raised and mentored by activists and civil rights leaders, and does not know how to shut up about the issues he cares about.
Co-host Michael Bland was Prince's drummer from 1989 on (perhaps best known for the iconic Diamonds and Pearls drum solo) and has been a member of Soul Asylum for 15 years. He toured or did session work with Chaka Khan, Maxwell, The Jonas Brothers/Nick Jonas, Mandy Moore, Demi Lovato, George Benson, and many many others. He is also a loud voice for social and political issues in Minneapolis.
