Hilarious and insightful
I’ve been enjoying this podcast for a while now, but until today, I had only listened to episodes for movies I had seen. But I just heard the Streets of Fire episode. Despite having never seen the movie, I still really enjoyed listening to Javi and Paul discuss it. The conversation was funny and insightful. Their willingness to cite the good elements in a patently bad movie — rather than just dismiss it outright — is super satisfying. (I especially appreciate this when they criticize a movie I loved!) And the energy and expertise they bring to the discussion is fantastic. Kudos to both of them *and* Producer Brad. Can’t wait for the Ghostbusters episode.

Not just nostalgia
I worked as a projectionist at this time, so I projected most of the movies that are featured on the podcast. It’s a great opportunity for me to revisit that time, but the analysis of the movies is so smart and thoughtful that you will enjoy this podcast even if you’ve never seen the movie.

THIS PODCAST IS SO FREAKING HILARIOUS
So delightful! Javi Grillo-Marxuach and Paul Alvarado-Dykstra take us through a rewatching of the hits of a summer of the 80s, experiencing the great, the good, and even some of the really bad movies of our childhood. Hilarious recaps, fascinating esoterica, and really great insights are all part of the journey.
What a great way to relive or (re)discover some or all of the films of that summer! It’s always at the top of my podcast feed!

1982 is the greatest year for movies!
Yeah, yeah, yeah, 1989 was great, 1999 was cool, but 1982 is hands-down the best movie year for any fan of genre films and I’m so excited someone is finally doing a deep dive on the best summer ever!
I’m three episodes in and I’m hooked.
