Do you sometimes feel anxious or afraid in the stormy trials and struggles in Life? I do. Honestly, I would choose Peace over stormy trials and struggles; yet, trials come daily so that the muscles of my spiritual heart become strong and resilient, yet soft and pliable, in the hands of God.
Often, trials are the most intimate place I have for meeting God. That's on me, because I can be lulled into believing that everything is going well, this doing life on my own. Smack! A Life Storm hits, and I'm undone.
It's then that I MUST find God's face. I MUST know that He's with me to help me.
What about you? Are you are going through a Life Storm at this moment?
I can tell you two simple things:
God is a very present help in time of need - Psalm 46:1; and
"The magnitude of the storm doesn't matter. What matters is the size, the greatness, of our Help in the storm."
The Word of God directs us to very real help to fill us with hope, faith, courage, and strength to endure and grow as we press through our trials, but we must find The God of The Word for true help, for a true rescue from anxiety and fear.
In this episode, we'll take a look at simple folk like you and me who found themselves in some REALLY BIG life storms, and we'll extract the Life Lessons from their experiences.
In this episode:
Mark 4:1, 2, 35-41 - "Jesus, don't you care?"
Matthew 14:22-33 - Peter walks on stormy waters
James 1:2-4 - Count it all joy?
John 14:1, 16-18, 23-33 - "I will send Holy Spirit to you."
John 16:33 - Jesus said, "In the world you will have tribulation"..."In Me you may have peace."
Hebrews 4:14-16 - Jesus understands what we're going through. He sympathizes with our weaknesses. We can "with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we might receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need."
Hebrews 13:5, 6 - "He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. I will not, I will not, I will not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let you down (relax My hold on you)! Assuredly not!"
Isaiah 41:10 - "Fear not, for I am with you..."
Joshua 1:9 - "Be strong and courageous..."
Psalm 56:3 - "WHEN I am afraid, I put my trust in You..."
"Peace is not found in the absence of a storm, but found in a personal connection with God through Jesus."
Trust in God who rescues! and Don't do life alone!

God commands that we love Him with all of our heart, with all of our soul, and with all of our might; and Jesus on earth taught the same.
And in His hour of temptation, Jesus Himself declared to the tempter: "You shall worship the Lord our God, and serve Him only."
In addition to those directives, throughout the Word of God, we are taught to humble ourselves before the LORD and to give Him the worship due His Name.
Is God a narcissist? Certainly not!
In this episode, we have convincing proof that worshiping God is a safeguard to keep us from deception, enslavement, harm, and even eternal death.
Beyond the negatives He keeps us from, recognizing God for who He is and what He has done in Jesus opens up a relationship with Him that provides for us in our present and secures a forever home with Him.
What a blessing it is that God jealously desires that our eyes and hearts be on Him, and a true blessing that His great love pursues us.
Let us humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God and love Him with all of our heart, mind, soul, and strength!

God jealously desires to spend time with us, and He's opened up the way for us to come to Him through the work of His Son, Jesus.
Sadly, our misunderstandings and even Life itself can hinder us from accessing the joy of His presence.
Thankfully, we can break through those hindrances to enjoy a vibrant and intimate relationship with Him.
Quotes from today's episode:
* "Breakthrough comes when what God says drops from our heads into our hearts, and we say the same thing He says. New thoughts OVERRIDE untrue thoughts." - Val Brown
* "Believing that God wants us to come to Him is the breakthrough that will give us the confidence to come to God." - Val Brown
* "Forgiveness is a done deal when we’ve taken our sins to Jesus! Throw out those condemning thoughts, and enjoy your time with Jesus and the Father." - Val Brown
* "God ABSOLUTELY AND ALWAYS wants to Do Life with us!" - Val Brown

“CODEPENDENCY is often our first reaction; the recovery PROCESS is learning how to respond to what comes up;
RECOVERY is freedom; FREEDOM is doing Life in new ways with God and other humans; Freedom is worth the work it takes to get free!"
"True Recovery happens only as the LORD reveals and heals the heart.” Val
These are two Truths the LORD taught me in my discovery and recovery from codependency tendencies.
Let me ask you:
Do you sometimes struggle in relationships?
Are you afraid to be authentically you for fear of being rejected, judged, or suppressed when you express your thoughts and feelings?
Are you living in an imbalanced or emotionally or physically abusive relationship?
If you answered "Yes" to even one of the questions, you may have developed some unhealthy codependency traits and tendencies in order to cope or survive.
There are better, healthier ways to negotiate in these imbalanced and dysfunctional relationships, and you CAN do something to change the dynamics.
In this episode, learn about codependency and how it influences who we are, what we say, and what we do. This is a recording of my codependency testimony, delivered at a Monday night meeting at Celebrate Life in Clymer, Pa.
The Move Your Heart Podcast, is the show where you can come in unashamedly, just as you are—fully you in how you think, how you feel, and how you’re living your life—no matter what that looks like.

Being honest about our emotions can be a scary thing. Why is that?
Our family of origin may have taught us that "bad" emotions are unacceptable; "Fix your attitude, or I'll fix it for you!"
Church may have taught us that emotions can be overridden by thinking differently; "By the way, here's the verse that fits that!"
Dysfunctional Relationships sometimes "forbid" a person to express their true feelings, without a consequence.
That's the top three that come to my mind. How and Why do YOU suppress your emotions?
In this episode, we're going to talk about why being honest in your emotions is acceptable, healthy, and good for the soul and spirit.

Who Am I? Why am I here? Does my life matter? Does anybody really care to know who I am? And if they did really know who I am, would they accept me as I am?
These are really big questions, and they're human Needs from the deepest part of us.
As deep as the need is to feel that your life has meaning, finding validation can be as elusive as a needle in a haystack.
Hear the story of Hagar, an Egyptian maidservant, who flees from her mistress and finds herself alone...or so she thinks, until she encounters face-to-face, El Roi, "The God Who sees me."
We all have value in our Creator's eyes, and in encountering Him, we discover our worth and our purpose.
Luke 12:7 - "Even the hairs of your head are all numbered."
Psalm 139 -
From the womb, your life has mattered to Him;
It was Him forming your unique being;
There is nowhere you could go where you would be hidden from His watchful eye;
He knows every day that was written, every day that was formed for you when as yet there was none.
Yes, He is the God Who sees; He cares; He loves you.
James 4:8 - "Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you."
*Enter in, and be encouraged today. God sees you, who you are right now, where you are right now; and He's coming for you.

Ashlee Frazier, the author of Taking Back The Narrative, shares insights and her experiences with guarding her mind and controlling her thoughts to maintain healthy mental health and healthy relationships.
Points from our conversation:
From her book: What is going into your mind? What are you consuming? How are those things influencing your life?
God tells us to guard our minds and exercise self-control over our thoughts.
The more we think about something, the stronger, and more controlling that thought becomes.
We CAN and SHOULD do the work to take control over our thoughts.
Struggles as a result of uncontrolled thoughts:
Torment of mind and emotions
Relational difficulties
Condemning & limiting thoughts can hold us back from God's divine will and purpose
Misperceptions about strength & neediness
What God says about exercising self-control in the area of the mind:
Proverbs 25:28 - "A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls."
Isaiah 26:3 - "You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in You, all whose thoughts are fixed on You!"
Psalm 73:3, 16, 17 - "For I was envious of the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of wicked. But when I thought how to understand this, it seemed to me a wearisome task, until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I discerned their end."
Nehemiah 4 - Strength & safety in community / relationships
2 Corinthians 10:5 - "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."
Romans 12:1, 2 - "I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
Ephesians 4:22-24 - "Put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
Great quotes you'll hear:
"I trust You, God, so why am I not in perfect peace? Why am I experiencing this anguish?"
"Basically, God was saying, 'We fixed what was going into your mind; now we're going to work on what's going on inside of your mind."'
"Not every thought that is in our head is ours."
Action Steps:
Become conscious of what you think and how your thoughts are affecting your emotions and the course of your life;
Purposefully work with renewing your mind;
Clean out the closet / Maintain the garden [of your mind];
Let God and others you trust help;

Ashlee Frazier, the author of Taking Back the Narrative, talks with us about how external narratives seek an entrance into our minds and then control over our lives.
Whatever narrative we embrace shapes our self-worth, our authentic identity, our emotional honesty, how we relate in friendships, our degree of confidence to relate to God in a personal way, the choices we make, and more.
Hear how Ashlee specifically watches over her internal narrative, and learn what practices help her win battles; perhaps you will gain confidence to challenge areas where you have struggled or succumbed to unhealthy narrative and life practices.
