On this special bonus episode of MOUTH-OFF, we take a festive detour into the world of Welsh folklore, winter traditions, Celtic music, storytelling and inclusive creativity.
Although it's June rather than December, we're incredibly proud of The Welsh Christmas Capers, a National Lottery HERITAGE FUND-supported project delivered by RCT Learning Curve in partnership with Forget-Me-Not Productions and Word Groove Collective. Following the project's evaluation in May, we wanted to share some of the creative work that emerged along the way.
Over the past year, participants from Gadlys, Llwynypia and Ty Draw Day Services explored Welsh winter traditions including Mari Lwyd, Plygain, Calennig and Noson Gyflaith through music, film-making, storytelling, performance, cookery, visual arts and assistive technology.
In this episode you'll hear excerpts from the project's films, original songs, documentary features and audio story, alongside reflections on how participants brought Welsh heritage to life through their own creativity and communication styles.
From rhyme battles and horse skulls (seriously) to magical toffee, ghostly carols and original songs, this is a celebration of Welsh culture, collaboration and imagination.

On this episode of Mouth-Off I chat to AL STEELE, JAMES WARREN of THE KORGIS, and author, lyricist, disability rights activist and MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER & AAC USER, GAVIN CLIFTON.
AL, JAMES, and GAVIN each bring a unique perspective on CREATIVITY, SONGWRITING, and the power of MUSIC to connect people. GAVIN collaborates with host CLARY SADDLER through WORD GROOVE COLLECTIVE, where he writes lyrics and advocates for greater ACCESSIBILITY and representation for people who use AUGMENTATIVE AND ALTERNATIVE COMMUNICATION (AAC).
We get to here their creative journeys, the stories behind their work, and the ways music can inspire, challenge, and bring people together. We also explore a wide range of topics including SONGWRITING, SYNC PLACEMENT, COLLABORATION, the changing MUSIC INDUSTRY, DISABILITY RIGHTS, ACCESSIBILITY IN THE ARTS, creative influences, and the importance of finding and maintaining your own ARTISTIC VOICE.
We also play a round of "SYNC OR SINK?", putting our guests' music industry instincts to the test, and delve into the world of DIEGETIC and NON-DIEGETIC MUSIC, exploring how music functions within film, television, and other media.
It's a lively and thought-provoking conversation packed with insights, humour, industry knowledge, and plenty of musical stories along the way.

In this episode of Mouth-Off, we dive headfirst into one of the biggest creative debates of our time: AI threat or liberation?
Voice-cloning. AI music. Text-to-speech. Plagiarism panic. Copyright chaos.
We’ve heard the dystopian headlines. But what happens when AI isn’t replacing creativity — it’s enabling it?
🎧 In this episode
A frank personal reflection on using AI as a disabled-led creative (when is it a helper, and when is it a hijacker?)
Original interviews with: • Gavin Clifton – author and AAC user who successfully challenged ACX to allow TTS narration of his memoir
• Mr X – non-verbal musician working with eyegaze tech and hybrid AI vocal blending
• Clip from BBC Access All featuring Sarah Ezekiel and her son discussing AI-assisted art and identity
• Queer musician and author Corporate Christ (featured in a previous Mouth-Off episode) shares a reimagined track using Suno AI
Two creative tracks using assistive or AI-enhanced tools: • Unreal Reality – co-written by Clary Saddler and Gavin Clifton for Word Groove Collective (sync brief)
https://soundcloud.com/wordgroovecollective
• Only Love – featuring lyrics and eyegaze instrumentation by Mr X, vocals by Clary Saddler
Instrumental: Whimsical – composed by Mr X and Clary Saddler
Audio reference to viral fake Drake track (AI-generated) and the ethical uproar it sparked
A candid “interview” with ChatGPT — sort of — on what it means to assist, not create
Show notes written with ChatGPT… though frankly, after the back-and-forth, it might’ve been quicker to do it myself

This Pride Month, Mouth-Off revisits a milestone from the archive: Welsh and Proud – Schools’ Songwriting Sessions (2014). Funded by the Arts Council of Wales and produced by Forget-Me-Not Productions — our first project as a Ltd company — this initiative brought together over 150 pupils from five Cardiff secondary schools to create original LGBTQIA+ themed anthems.
The winning song, The Person Within, was professionally recorded, filmed, and screened on the main stage at Cardiff Pride 2014.
A decade later, we untangle the cables, revisit the voices, and reflect on the queer legacy of music, memory, and visibility.
🎧 In this episode:
Archival clips from the original project
Interviews with participating teachers, judges, and community figures
A musical montage of student submissions
A tribute to late supporters and judges Scott Travers and Ian Bazzard (Bazz)
Audio from sister projects United Community and Homophonic is Gay
Reflections on ageism, allyship, and protest
A Cwtch live set snippet
An excerpt from Claire Dowie’s Why is John Lennon Wearing a Skirt? as part of the Cultural Cwtch

UPRISING was first performed in 2015, commissioned by The Project Space in Newport and produced by Forget-Me-Not Productions. It was a multimedia, site-specific performance exploring political disenfranchisement, media control, and class struggle, drawing from Newport’s Chartist history and the social climate leading up to the 2015 general election. Through live music, immersive theatre, and audience participation, it questioned who really holds power and how democracy is manipulated.
A decade later, in 2025, this Mouth-Off episode revisits UPRISING...through its original music, propaganda-inspired soundscapes, and interviews reflecting on its themes in today’s political landscape. The episode dissects the show’s key moments:

So it's official. I have a book out. KYLIE MINOGUE ALBUM-BY-ALBUM STICK OR TWIST? is out now. To coincide with the launch, I was interviewed with my co-host - from my other podcast, THE McCARTNEY McALPHABET.
We chatted mostly about Kylie and my writing process, though there was some MACCA thrown in for good measure (they have previously performed together don't you know!)
The book, published by WHITE OWL is available from all the usual places (Kylie Minogue: Album by Album by Clary Saddler | Waterstones).

Mouth-Off 2.03: Kylie Minogue: A Showgirl on Tour SPECIAL FEATURE interview with Jay Bradley-Hoffman
To coincide with the release of my new book KYLIE MINOGUE ALBUM-BY-ALBUM STICK OR TWIST? Mouth-Off is concluding the epic, three-part special feature that we started this month about gay icon, fashion icon and all round legend, KYLIE MINOGUE. As you may know, if you listened to the final Mouth-Off episode of season one - where I interviewed music enthusiast and my fellow RUBYSHOES band mate (and fellow GAY), JAY BRADLEY-HOFFMAN; I have recently finished my Kylie book, which is being published by WHITE OWL at the end of June (2024). I am also currently in the process of planning the follow up book, KYLIE MINOGUE: A SHOWGIRL ON TOUR. To coincide with these projects and to celebrate PRIDE MONTH, Jay and I finished our chat. Last year, Jay suggested we do a review of the concert openers from all of Kylie’s tours, so we did, and we recorded our chat. This is part two, we hope you enjoy. #PADAMPADAM.

Last year, I interviewed music critic (Albumism) and author of the "Record Redux" series, Quentin Harrison, to discuss all things related to the ultimate gay icon, Ms. Kylie Minogue. The "Record Redux" series is a ten-book set dedicated to “resetting the critical narratives of influential and often misrepresented women in pop music.” Previous editions have profiled the careers of the Spice Girls, Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Carly Simon, and Donna Summer, with Janet Jackson still in the making.
To celebrate Pride Month and to coincide with the release of my book, "Kylie Minogue Album-by-Album: Stick or Twist?" (out June 30, 2024), I had another chat with Quentin. This time, we discussed Kylie’s recent renaissance, her enduring legacy, and her latest release, "Tension."
