"I've been making excuses for people my entire career. And I didn't even know it."

I was sitting with a client this morning and I had this moment, this awareness, that I just had to share with you.

I've spent 30-something years in this work. Justifying. Excusing. Rationalizing. I even had a name for it. I called it "innocent ignorance." Like the people I was trying to help just didn't know better. And if they knew, they'd do better. So I kept explaining. Kept carrying it. Kept trying to get them there.

And then I looked at the word "ignorant."

The moment I saw that, something in me just released.
