In an absolute sea of podcasts this was amazing! I wish Tommy told more of the story because it felt like I was right there freezing in a castle. Obviously he’s a good storyteller bc of his background but he wove in different characters and music and sounds and I wished it had gone on for 10 more episodes. Do not skip this one and please make more!!

This whole podcast was like listening to a boring therapy session from a self-loathing narcissist bragging about his famous friends and the multiple women he seduced who directly worked for him (with commentary from his ACTUAL therapist, who apparently he lived with at one point??) very little about the crooked guy who funded his film. Every time he referred to someone as a “friend and collaborator” I wanted to scream. Also the speech he gave at his best friend’s wedding was so rude, but apparently he thought it was great enough to read it in full. I listened to the whole thing because I was so confused about when the actual story would start (spoiler alert- it never does)

This is one of the best podcasts I’ve heard in a while. It’s a honest look at one’s self, inside an amazing story.

One of the best podcasts I’ve listened to in a while, the host clearly has a knack for storytelling and this one really draws you in.

So this guy wants us to believe that him sleeping with a bunch of women that he’s in a position of power over isnt also extremely predatory?…. The first two episodes are about his sexual conquests which made it impossible for me to stomach the third episode. You literally can’t make up audacity like this man has…. If you are a woman/not a cis dude, you’re not gonna vibe with this story more than likely because this author is very much a predator too… I’d keep it moving to a different podcast if I were you…

If I stick with this podcast, does the whiny narcissism of the narration shift? Does the narrator end up critiquing his self-pity or does it remain the unexamined foundation of the story?

Monster is a gonzo-esque narrative worth listening to. This podcast is well written and produced. The listener is left wanting more. However, even though this is a personal narrative one can’t help to think that the failure to acknowledge that 100s (possibly more) of young girls are given GHB on a daily basis and forced into sex acts is a little out of touch.

Great true story told by a great story teller. I don’t think I’ve heard a podcast like this. Well done.

Such a unique storyteller, and an absolutely gripping podcast. I white knuckled my way through the whole thing in one day. Can’t wait for season two!

What a wild story that twists and turns from Hollywood to Europe - totally crazy and like being in someone’s journal

Making movies is hard enough. There is the coordination needed to get the logistics in place, the talent needed to make it good, and the courage to know you should be telling this story. Add to that a large dose of actual danger, possible organized crime, and an amazing willingness to share the most intimate details of a personal journey of inner realization and growth, and you have “Monster.” Bingable, and insane.

What does a celebrity wedding, naked photos, work-place love affairs, hypothermia, and drug-fueled criminals have in common? Listen and find out.

This is a stranger-than-fiction rollercoaster that really caught me by surprise. There’s catharsis and hubris in equal measure, and entertainment a-plenty. I stan.

Well done, pulled me in from the beginning and road me till the end. Thoroughly enjoyed it. More stores please!!!!

I started listening one day and binged the whole thing. Like when you’re reading a great book and you feel like you’re actually there. This podcast is that.

Found this through a friend and binged all the episodes in an evening. The narrator spins a tale this is hyper specific while still feeling deeply universal, about the lengths some of us will go to discover purpose and meaning. Bertelsen’s narrative is poetic and incisive, with incredible production value. Absolutely worth a listen
