John Roosevelt Boettiger | A Grandson's View from the White House | Sound Legacy #16
This one is too good not to share here. Our guest today is John Roosevelt Boettiger, psychologist, author, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is also one of the very few living people who spent his childhood inside the Roosevelt White House, where his grandfather Franklin was busy running the free world, and his grandmother Eleanor was traveling it.While John is the grandson of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, he’s also the son of Anna Roosevelt and John Boettiger, a Chicago Tribune reporter who fell in love with the president's daughter on the campaign train in 1932. His book, "A Love in Shadow," tells the story of their marriage, and of his own long journey to understand a father changed by war and lost far too soon.In this conversation, John shares witty, warm, and deeply personal stories from his years inside the wartime White House, including memories of Churchill, of Eleanor, and of the man he simply called Papa. We talk about his father's moral injury, his mother's quiet courage, and the complicated grace of growing up a Roosevelt. We also talk about John's years as a civil rights activist, his time in Selma, and what it means to carry that history forward into a political moment like this one.It is a remarkable life. We are lucky he wrote it down, and luckier still that he came in on a Sunday to share it.Find John's book "Love and Shadow" here - https://www.abebooks.com/book-search/title/love-shadow-story-anna/author/boettiger-john/

Adem Vant Hull - Sawdust 3
After nearly a year away, the Monkey Tooth Podcast is back. I sat down with my longtime pal Adem Vant Hull — woodworker, musician, painter, and cook — for a wide-ranging conversation about growing up in Minneapolis, losing a parent young, finding purpose in craft, and what it means to genuinely love what you do. Adem also talks about his upcoming one-day art show at Atelier Woodworks in New Orleans on March 28th, 2026, where he'll be showcasing furniture, cutting boards, birdhouses, and more — plus a special contribution from his son Bo. If you're anywhere near New Orleans, get your ass in an Uber, have some drinks, and buy a birdhouse.Share and Enjoy!

The Beauty of Cracked Vessels With Noémie Marmara
In this episode, Andrew speaks with Noémie Marmara - a multidisciplinary artist, poet, and ceramicist living in the south of France. Together, they explore the emotional, spiritual, and physical properties of clay, art, and the unseen forces that shape both. What begins as a conversation about vessels becomes a meditation on identity, perception, neurodivergence, trauma, and transformation. Noémie shares her personal story with unflinching honesty and poetic insight, revealing how art can emerge from fracture—and why imperfection may be the most powerful form of beauty. Erik Lomen
Spotify has kicked a few episodes off the feed - I'm putting them back in. This is one of them...Ohh man...how fortunate are we to live in the same world as today's guest, Erik Lomen. First of all, I only got to meet Erik because of serendipitous timing, bad weather in Cheyenne, WY, a not-to-be-missed Boston Celtics game, my propensity to arrive early for meals, my preference for eating at the bar, and a chance encounter with Erik's delightful and interesting mom, Marcy. Based solely on her hardly disinterested say-so, I drove to Gardiner Maine to spend the day with one of our new favorite people. Erik is the host of "The Myco Wizards Podcast", and founder and brainchild behind the wildly innovative Maine Cap 'N Stem - a supplier of spore-ready substrate for cultivators of mushrooms from Lion's Mane to Penis Envy. This is NOT a stoner, freaky mushroom weirdo episode...well, it is, but it's also much more. Erik is a deeply thoughtful, battle-tested polymath with a heart of red oak; perfect for taking mycelium to all its favorite places. Tune in for a particularly interesting ride.
