Stellar Story
This was a beautiful podcast about seeking treasure but finding truth. I loved this podcast, and I am a tough critic; many tears were shed!

Join the hunt for something meaningful
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this podcast. The interviews and story are so compelling. You can’t help but feel connected to not only the main character but the narrator. Great job!

The Real Fortune
This is a series that makes you think it’s about a treasure, and it is. But it’s not so much about a treasure worth money as it is about finding those you love and need. It’s as much about a family as it is about a box of jewels.

Interesting
Really enjoyed the storytelling. Well done and interesting if not a bit sad. Darrell was pinning the entire validation of his existence on finding the treasure. I think we can agree his mother is to blame for that. I hope he is doing well and I’d love to tell him that he is a good and worthy valid man just as he is. Stay golden Darrell.

Well Told
I like the way he tells the story. A lot of podcasts say the same thing over and over and over thinking it’s gonna captivate you or catch your attention and it just becomes redundant and boring. He doesn’t do that with the story and he tells it well. It’s also a good story.

Excellent
What a story. And what a narrative journey for both Darrel and Peter. I loved how Peter’s comprehension of what the real story was grew over the years. His determination and persistence to follow his instinct that this was a great story paid off. Maybe it’s because they really become friends despite starting from such very different places in the beginning, that they could both be more honest with each other and truly vulnerable. Darrels search for his father took such a turn when his brother also told his truth. Finally hearing from Darrels mother was another deep reveal. Beautifully done.

Loved this from beginning to end.

Excellent story telling
Fun to listen to the whole way through. The story is not just a bullet list of “things that happened,” but is told through the eyes of the people who were part of it.

Human experience explored
Really good podcast. Goes deep, way beyond just a simple treasure hunt. Touches on greed, obsession, failure, and family dynamics.

Impressive
It was to put the story down, caused 3 main feelings. Spoiler alert!
Admiration for main character, anger at the guy who started it, what a dick and gratefulness towards the writer who was so kind and nonjudgmental and a good writer. Thank you for such great podcast

So much hope…
I loved the way this podcast took me on a man’s journey for more than just a physical treasure. It was personal and emotional in a way I wasn’t expecting - beautiful written and told.

Everything I want in a podcast
Such a surprising story of human relationships and not just rocks & stones in boxes.
It’s an amazing podcast when I’m in tears at the end. Not just for the story, but that it’s finished 😍🥺.

Good listen
Started off very strong. Very interesting to follow a guy so obsessed with finding a treasure that he’ll go to extreme measures to find it. It’s very well written. Just a bit of an unsatisfying ending but that’s life I guess. Got a little too personal for my taste, I wish it would have focused on the treasure more but that’s ok.

Engaging and well done
This was a well done and engaging podcast! I looked forward to every episode, as new voices were heard from and more of the story was revealed. Darrell is a complicated man and I am glad he found his father’s family. Forrest Fenn is a a slightly less complicated man; Sasha nailed it when she said he wanted to be a legend. I highly recommend this psychological journey of a podcast.

Excellent story telling with a gap
The flow of story telling in this podcast is excellent - engaging and thought provoking. I lost some respect for Darrell, however, after hearing the irony of his multiple children he has not been present for, just as the narrative emphasized the importance of his absent father in his experience. Perhaps Peter should have followed this part of his story more. But overall an entertaining and interesting podcast.

Trojan horse
I prefer to listen to podcast where it is some sort of investigative journalism feel. I’ve been having a hard time, reaching the same kind of interest as I had with the Trojan horse, STown or Who Killed Daphne? and I stumbled upon this. Totally pulls you in and has some interesting twists and turns. Absolutely worth a listen.

Background music unbearable
I stopped after episode two because I just could not handle one more second of the ridiculous constant background music

I LOVED this. I travel a lot for work and this podcast made it something to look forward to.

He’s not searching. He’s running.
Fantastic podcast. Great storytelling. However, Peter..why did you shy away from telling Darrell (or helping him to discover) that he will never heal unless he builds a relationship with his children? Once it was revealed that Darrell had kids, it became clear to me that he’s not searching for connection with a dead father or for something to make his family proud; he’s running from his responsibilities, which has created tremendous guilt and feelings of shame. He’s running from this truth. He’s in denial that like his mother, he’s done a terrible job of parenting (for him, merely by being absent). It’s as clear as day to me. Of course he can’t rest. How can someone who always wanted a father, ignore his own children? (And why didn’t you push him more to address this? Meet with his children?). It’s his demon; the monkey on his back. He must accept that he has hurt his children and been a terrible father, and then do everything possible to make up for this and build a relationship with each child. It’s never too late to apologize, and do what you can to do better. As he wants his own mother to do. Only then can he stop searching and have peace.

Great podcast
Great podcast, but it took a lot to get past Peter’s loud breathing into the microphone.

Tantalizing Trauma
A tantalizing treasure hunt, but the producers go too far in psychoanalyzing their subjects. Ironically, the host accuses Forrest Fenn of something he himself does — profiting from someone else’s lost history.

Great

Awesome listen
I really enjoyed this podcast and the powerful nature of the personal story that is told throughout. Well done, and keep it up.

Thrilling
The host does a fantastic job of presenting the Forrest Fenn story interwoven with Darryl’s personal journey… Didn’t want it to end…

Well done
Great podcast that really makes connections on a psychological front! Super interesting. Just stay with it.

Story is hidden behind the Journalists Opinions
The podcast host thinks that this treasure hunt is hurting people, and spends the whole series saying that this hunt, this dream is bad for people. If you feel a certain way, save that for the final episode and make it just one episode. Don’t spend the whole series interjecting your opinion on a story worth telling. Hard to listen with constant condescending opinions being thrown in every few minutes.

Good Job
Almost skipped this story because I was already familiar with it. Chose to try it & loved it. The host did an excellent job. Production was excellent. Glad I found this podcast after all episodes were released, so was able to binge it.

Thank you
My only complaint is that I couldn’t binge it all in one day.

Disappointing Story
The treasure part of the story was interesting, but the personal episodes about Daryl were not (no offense to him) and ended very flat. It seemed a VERY far reach to relate the treasure hunting to Daryl’s life and felt forced.

Outstanding!!

Fenn has done nothing wrong.
He’s followed the laws all along. He has a passion for this and thank goodness. Without him many of these amazing artifacts would be lost to time and appreciated by no one.
Avengers93
Too much personal
The premise is great: Lost treasure and follow the quest. But there are entire episodes where the personal lives of the participants are followed. And frankly, they are not that interesting. This story can be cut in half and made much better.
Stop making it something it is not.

Great Road Trip Listen
We didn’t want it to end - excellent content, suspense, storyline and ending. Hope to hear more episodes soon.

Gripping story!
I stumbled across this one and literally could barely put it down to do basic life activities. Peter Frick-Wright threw himself into this with no holds barred and it clearly shows in the quality of his storytelling. He also demonstrates such a personal interest in Darrell Steyler’s (treasure hunter) wellbeing it clearly became more than just a product of his work as a reporter. Well done Peter and I look forward to your next one!

I wanted to like this, but couldn’t get past the journalist pretentious descriptions of everyone and everything in the first 15mim.

A little bit of editing
Great story and well told. The second I started paying attention to the hosts deep breaths at the beginning of each sentence I couldn’t I unhear it. A little editing to take it out and it’s gold.

Mixed feelings
I listened to the first 3 episodes and read transcripts of the rest.
First, criticism: Listeners will notice that the narrator does not treat Forrest with the same humanity that he treats everyone else. It’s clear that he doesn’t like Forrest. You can make up your own mind whether that’s warranted.
Yes, the story goes too long but that’s normal for podcasts. Idk why but they all take a 3-episode story and turn it into 9-10.
The praise: I had never heard of the treasure hunt and this was a fun way to learn about it. I thought the narrator was funny at times. The episode recaps were a nice touch and it was nice that he credited everyone at the end of every episode. I can tell a lot of people worked hard on this show.

Not crazy about the ending
Disappointed by the ending. Wasn’t expecting a moral ending. We just had to accept that someone found the treasure, although there was still a lot of mystery if it was really found.

Most annoying writing force together with antagonistic qualities of studied writing. Nothing natural
I found the podcast to be frustratingly forced and unnatural. The writing seems overly studied, lacking the organic flow that makes content engaging. The structure feels more like it’s trying too hard to be intellectual or clever, rather than delivering genuine insights. It’s difficult to connect with the content because of how antagonistic the tone feels. Overall, it doesn’t come across as natural or authentic, which really detracts from the listening experience.

If there’s on value that shines through the Canon family
It’s that if you’re a male, you can abandon all your offspring and blame the females in your life for situations you were able to remove yourself from. Good story otherwise.

Has Potential to be better
Story was interesting first couple of episodes. But you can tell reporter was an amateur when he started this, there was so many awkward moments or buttons that he pushed when interviewing ppl. Felt like he could've gone in more depth with questions or just interactions. But he is a great narrator.
I do like that there was some attention brought to the native tribes and artifacts.
SierUh
Not the story I care about.
This podcast waste more time talking about a missing dad then it does about a missing treasure.
It you think your going to get a podcast about treasure hunting , your not . It most about a broken person looking for there dad.

Well done
This is an interesting true story told in a very in-depth thought provoking approach. I loved the psychological aspect.
