Episode 16 - "The kids? This will give the parents nightmares." We're back from our week's break and ready to resume the second half of series 2 of our thinking cinephile's podcast. This week we're heading back to Isla Nublar, just in time for the release of Jurassic World: Dominion, to review & discuss 2015's "original" Jurassic World (itself the fourth entry in the Jurassic franchise of course). D.K is taking hosting duties on this one, joined as always by Mike, and the two talk about the impact of the whole Jurassic franchise, the initial response to this movie, the writing, acting, direction, music and much more. As always there's also the regular sections going behind the scenes, sharing audience responses and giving final conclusions and scores. Enjoy the epic return of the podcast, hopefully more than the unimpressed crowds in this movie enjoyed seeing dinosaurs, don't run in heels and when in doubt just go for more teeth. Or at least a nostalgia pull. Episode 15 - "Goose ya big stud, take me to bed or lose me forever!"Greetings aviators. Mike, D.K and recurring guest Will, aka call signs "Flash", "Serpent" and "Wings", are back with another timely review. This time around we're feeling the need... the need to review an 80s classic with a LONG awaited sequel hitting cinemas right now! That's right, we're talking Top Gun. "Serpent" offers his usual behind-the-scenes information & analysis, "Flash" does a deep dive into so-called "queer theory" including how the film fits in to such interpretations, and "Wings" is off somewhere buzzing the tower still trying to come to terms with what he literally just saw for the very first time, including a love scene that's already living rent-free in his brain. Together the intrepid trio also give their individual thoughts on the film's acting, direction, music, action, place in popular culture and more. They finish as always with their conclusions and scores. So don't be letting your ego write cheques your body can't cash, sit back, hit play and prepare to enter the danger zone!Read Mike's review of Top Gun: Maverick on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/2SaxNdFollow Michael: https://twitter.com/IronmikewilsonFollow Mike on Letterboxd: https://boxd.it/g479Follow D.K: https://twitter.com/AKAStarlord Follow Will: https://twitter.com/Will_TemplarFollow this podcast: https://twitter.com/podcast_screenJoin our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/329752622011042/?ref=share"Your friend was magnificent."

A CONVERSATION WITH PRODUCTION DESGNER DAVE BLASS Welcome viewers and listeners to this very special episode of the podcast, our first ever interview episode. Mike and D.K are thrilled to be joined by acclaimed Emmy-nominated production designer Dave Blass. Mr. Blass has an extensive C.V including work on (among other things) The Boys, Constantine, Ghost Rider, Justified, Preacher and, of course, season 2 and 3 of Star Trek: Picard. In our exclusive chat we talk about how he got started in the industry, some of his heroes, his respect and reverence for returning stalwarts of production, his affection for all things Trek and his decision to approach former Trek BTS alum and Star Trek: Online to fill out the amazing fleet we saw in season 2. We talk about what it was like to collaborate on designing a new hero-ship USS Stargazer, the "carpets vs shiny floors" debate, what it was like being on set with bona fide legends during emotional scenes, designing "General Picard's" props and what to expect in season 3 including the possibility of even more new ships and a new but maybe familiarly-named hero ship, which fans will not want to miss hearing about! We also talk about some of the other geeky stuff that he worked on for Marvel, DC, Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg and more. Massive thanks to Mr. Blass for giving us his time and for his stellar work and appreciation of fellow Trek fans. We are supremely grateful and it was a pleasure for us so we hope everyone enjoys watching or listening to this chat as much as we enjoyed being in it. Engage! Episode 14 - "Yeah. Book of the Damned, calling yourself a Witch, conjuring creatures to abduct a kid. I don't exactly call that being reasonable" Welcome back to another episode of this Marvel-heavy series as we are here to review the big one, the much-hyped Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of... Madness? Excitement? Disappointment? Mild boredom? Oh dear, best to brace yourselves for a trip through this multiverse of opinions. But what did regular hosts Mike and D.K really think about everything to do with this film? Did they enjoy the return of director Sam Raimi to the Marvel world? Did they find the plot to be exciting and making full use of it's potential? What did they make of the returning characters? And of course we've got to talk about those cameos. Needless to say this is a FULL SPOILER review so maybe bookmark for later if you haven't yet seen the movie, otherwise grab yourself a pizza ball, prepare to meet the Illuminati and if you see an angry redhead approaching covered in blood and screaming about her children then best just run! "Sir, this is a Wendy's" Surprise. In this special unplanned episode co-host D.K takes on full hosting responsibilities for this special occasion. The podcast couldn't let the start of another new Trek series go by without acknowledging it and as such D.K is joined by usual host Mike Wilson, taking the supporting role, and the two have a review of the first ever episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, imaginatively titled "Strange New Worlds". Both hosts have seen the episode but worry not this is a SPOILER-FREE review touching on thoughts and feelings about the new cast and characters, the overall look and feel, the show's place in the Trek universe and what excites them going forward after this pilot. Unfortunately the usual loud, ignorant voices have complaints though and so there's also ten minutes or so where the podcast speaks to this ridiculous "controversy" and welcomes Trek's first live-action incarnation of a legendary figure. There's a brief discussion (mainly by Mike) of Star Trek: Picard's second season to start the episode, plus an audience response section at the end along with the usual conclusions and scores out of five Starfleet deltas. We hope you enjoy this bonus episode. Hit it! Episode 13 - "Gordon's alive!" We're back! Fresh from our intermission where we dived into the mystical, strange side of Marvel and before we open the "mad" multiverse next episode it's time to round out our lists of Top Ten Marvel films with our numbers 5 to 1! Mike and D.K are again joined by returning guest Tobi/Darksonic and the absentee opinions of Will Templar ("Who Gameshows", "The Big Screen Podcast") delivered by proxy. The episode concludes with an audience response naming some of our fans' favourite Marvel movies, a brief discussion of our least favourites, and finally the definitive, combined final Top Ten list. Will your favourite make it in? Or even to the very top? Are there any decisions quite as odd as Howard the Duck or Iron Man 2 from part one? Tune in and find out. Excelsior!... Episode 12 - "Try me Beyonce!" Welcome back everyone. We interrupt our countdown of top Marvel films to return to a regular review of a specific Marvel film. But why would we be talking about Doctor Strange right now? It's just "Madness". Mike & D.K have another "behind the scenes" segment and debut a new, streamlined review format organised in categories such as writing, direction, acting, music etc. This week we also have special guest appearances by a returning Will Templar (aka Who Gameshows), when his internet connection allows him to join us. So sit back and enjoy the discussion of the trippiest Marvel film yet as you prepare yourself to enter the multiverse... Episode 11 - "This isn't Footloose!" Welcome viewers/listeners to episode 2 of series 2 and the return of our "Top Ten" format. This time around Mike and D.K are joined by returning guest Tobi (aka Darksonic) and the absentee ballot of Will Templar ("Who Gameshows", "The Big Screen Podcast") to give their ten best, or personal favourite, Marvel movies. To be clear that includes any movie based on a Marvel property that got a wide theatrical release (not just the MCU). This one was such a doozy we had to split it into two episodes. Part 2 will air on the channel in a couple of weeks but for now this here is each person's number 10 to 6 on their individual lists. A combined final list will round out the second episode. So get comfortable, grab your funny books and prepare for a surprise or two, maybe even a fowl one quite early on. Enjoy. Series 2, Episode 11 - "Every First Contact Day school kids have to arrange an orchestra to play "Ooby Dooby"" Well, as Star Trek TNG taught us, all good things must come to an end, and so we reach this, the last episode in the "Borg and AI" second season of the podcast. But boy have we got a doozy lined up for the swansong. We've talked about it enough, alluded to it loads, and now it's time to finally review the seminal movie Star Trek: First Contact. Mike is joined by two brand new guests with some hefty Trek credentials; Eryn from Spinal Frontier Podcast and Jeff from Starfleet Academy Leadership Podcast to talk about everything from Picard's roller-coaster of trauma to overly horny slimy zombie ladies and from enemies that move slower than Austin Powers on a steamroller to the importance of always packing a knife to a space fight. That and much more deep diving into the themes of the film, importance to the franchise and personally, acting, direction, critical analysis and more. But like all first time guests we begin by asking Eryn and Jeff the big questions about how Star Trek came into their lives, favorite episodes etc. And naturally we conclude with audience responses, final scores and stay tuned for the big reveal of the podcast's series 3 theme! Enjoy this concluding chapter (for now) and live long and prosper (no need for thanks). Series 2, Episode 10 - "I wanna just give the episode a cuddle. I love it so much." This week D.K is taking the hosting reins and grilling usual host Mike (finally) on HIS favourite characters, along with putting him on the spot for a D.K-written Hit or Miss section. There's talk about relatable traits, childhood idols, intelligent marine life, magical super beings, and buckle up as we wade into the debate around TWO controversial episodes; DS9's "Move Along Home" & Enterprise's "These are the Voyages", with some hot takes that might just surprise people! Then as always we jump into a full review, this season revolving around the Borg and advanced AI. This week we're looking at Airiam and the Section 31 threat assessment system in the Discovery episode "Project Daedalus". Enjoy the episode and watch out for Control taking over any nearby cybernetics...
